Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4541: A Standard For Reaping Lives

Chapter 4541: A Standard For Reaping Lives

“Sometimes, using Heart Intent is like a curse. You end up never truly hating someone because you’ll always think that there must be a reason why they are the way they are. Plus, they’re scared shitless like children, their hearts stricken with pure fear without any kind of funny business. It’s not like I don’t have the heart to kill them, but giving a chance to them is in order unless they’re the ones who instigated it or doubled down like Lambert Mistwalker.”

“More than anything, I wish to show my children not to treat life as something that could be easily disregarded, but when it needs to be reaped, even if it is someone with an extreme status, you need to get rid of them the moment you get the opportunity.”

Evelynn’s lips couldn’t help but curl as they came round and round to exactly what Lambert Mistwalker did as he tried to deal with Davis.

However, different than Lambert Mistwalker, they didn’t teach their children to face someone with extreme prowess but run and fight another day when nothing is at stake.

“It’s a double-edged sword.” Evelynn’s smile turned wry, “Because you possess Heart Intent, you know that sparing them will not bring you trouble to the highest degree, but the same can’t be said about everyone else. Our children can’t make such informed and calculated decisions in a split second, nor would they have time to properly investigate the intentions of their opponents after a battle.”

“Indeed, I can only hope that even if they make a mistake, it isn’t severe. Otherwise, they might lose themselves, and even I wouldn’t be able to save them.”

Davis caressed Evelynn, causing her to giggle lightly.

She was much more joyous that Davis was taking the time to teach the children how to value life.

Azariel and the others had a strange inkling that their father did this for them. He intentionally killed the most important person and spared the subordinates when it would usually be the other way around.

After all, that would be how they would be able to gain the most benefits.

They supposed Layla Mistwalker would also do, but their father was just too fast this time around, considering he had been treating this whole journey as a vacation. If he had been serious, it would be another story, but for him to kill while having simple fun, that’s the first time they have seen.

Afraid that the children wouldn’t pick up on this matter, Evelynn gave them a hint: To learn from their father.

“I see.” Azariel cupped his hands towards Davis, his expression full of respect, “Kill the beast, spare the beauty. As expected of the great Divine Emperor of Death. Truly, I have much to learn.”

“You-”

Davis pointed at Azariel. This son of an Anarchic Divergent was trying to sow discord.

“From now on, I’ll spare all beauties. Fairies are the world for me. Even if they are enemies, as long as they agree to submit, then they’re no threat.”

“Hahaha.”

Azariel went on, causing the others to laugh.

Evelynn also turned to look away, unable to hold her laughter.

“…” Layla Mistwalker was speechless.

The Divine Emperor of Death had a son who was already a grown man? It seems like he had five of them here when she saw how they called him father.

It was crazy for her to imagine even being married this early, much less bringing children to a secret realm. And then- it suddenly hit her that they had not entered a danger zone, but they were here to enjoy their travels, enjoy their adventure like an immortal couple going out to their honeymoon, except they already had their kids with them!

Nonetheless, Azariel and the other knew what Davis was trying to convey. They stopped teasing him.

Davis inwardly fumed.

He couldn’t act out or discipline them for this kind of teasing since it would look like he lost his cool. He was always in a bind in situations like this, but he supposed his women could also vent this way over whatever negative emotions they held towards his selfish and presumptuous actions of courting a new harem member.

However, his wives were also zealous in defending him, stepping in to shield him if the children went too far.

They continued to travel for two days before finally arriving at a canyon.

It didn’t appear to be an ordinary canyon since it wasn’t just a river running through two sides of a mountain. Instead, the river was extremely strange, bubbling into shiny yet tiny spheres over the lightest vibration or tremor from the thunder echoing throughout the region.

The howling winds were also a factor for the river to bubble strangely, but not so much as the thunder.

The canyon winds howled like an ancient beast, carrying the scent of metallic essence and the dangerous soul attacks from the endless echoing thunder.

Davis’s eyes, sharp as blades yet warm as the sun, were drawn to the sight above the bubbling river.

A golden figure danced upon the strange, shimmering spheres, each one appearing like a fragment of the sky reflected in water. Her purple hair cascaded with every turn, catching the light of the fractured stormy sky, and her golden robe seemed to hold the glow of the dusk.

With every delicate flick of her wrist, the air trembled. When her palm sliced through space like a whip, a soft crack resounded, and the spheres burst into threads of sound essence instead of being destroyed, spiraling back into the river as if worshiping her presence.

“Isabella…”

Davis’s heart stirred despite the raging winds and the solemn weight of the canyon. In that moment, her every movement she made was a language only he could understand. The loneliness she endured, the pride she exuded, and that hidden longing she only showed when she thought no one was watching.

A sudden ripple of wind carried his scent, and Isabella paused mid-step, her golden figure perfectly balanced on a cluster of floating spheres. She turned, and their eyes met across the churning canyon.

“My Emperor…” Her voice carried over the storm, soft yet powerful, as though it resonated directly with his soul.

He took a step forward, landing lightly on a bubbling sphere. The sound essence pulsed beneath his feet, appearing to be extremely dangerous enough to kill a Mid-Stage Empyrean. However, it did not shatter.

“Isabella,” Davis called again, his voice laced with warmth that cut through the canyon’s cold winds, “Even the river dances for my Empress.”

A faint smile curved her lips, her usually dignified aura softening. Her eyes moistened quickly as she nearly bit her lips.

Davis also couldn’t resist as he drew closer, their robes brushing against each other in the wind.

Isabella leaned into his chest, the golden radiance of her robe mingling with his overbearing aura, forming a serene brilliance against the backdrop of thunder and howling winds. For a fleeting moment, the canyon and its tempest seemed to bow to them as they stopped sundering the skies and piercing through the air.

NOTE:

My mom is in critical condition in the hospital. It is quite serious enough to end badly, so I won’t be able to write for the next day and after properly.

I’m not even in the mood to focus.

Don’t buy privilege next month since I can’t assure you that the novel will have a stable release of chapters. I will be busy for the next week taking care of mom, so chap counter will be paused.
