Chapter 4468: Father-Son Talk
Chapter 4468: Father-Son Talk
"Don’t look down on women." Davis started.
"Huh? Why would I?" Azariel raised his brows.
"I mean, you didn’t expect her to throw you away that easily when a good alliance showed up at her door, did you?"
Davis nudged Azariel, causing him to look away as he nodded.
"I guess not..."
Davis continued, "Listen carefully. The greatest trick women ever pulled was acting cute and convincing everyone they were not predators. There are two kinds of predators. One stalks and pounces, ripping apart everything in its wake, and the other lures and entraps, engulfing you and crushing you into meat paste. Sometimes it’s both, but you get what I’m saying, right?"
Azariel didn’t know what his father was getting at but answered obediently.
"Hmm... Women are capable of luring and entrapping, shredding one to pieces..."
"Good child." Davis nodded, "Even if you’re strong, if you make yourself vulnerable to them, they can shred your heart to pieces, so choose wisely, someone who wouldn’t betray you and will follow you to death."
"I understand..." Azariel nodded.
When he thought about it, Chyka did manage to hurt him. It still hurt, but not as bad as before. He really didn’t expect her to just say yes to taking another man’s hand when it seemed like a good opportunity without even talking to him first.
Although they were still in the so-called testing stage or the seeing period, it abruptly broke up lopsidedly, and he didn’t think it was fine.
Nonetheless, he smirked at his father daringly.
"Are all your wives like that, father?"
"Brat, are you doubting the loyalty of your mothers? How dare you!"
Davis’s expression turned grim. He locked his son’s neck in an arm lock and clenched.
"You- Old fart! Ah! It hur- uh?"
Azariel was suddenly let go. He looked at his father, thinking he had messed up, but it didn’t seem like that as his father looked into the sunset.
"You want to know what I think?"
"Of course," Azariel rubbed his neck, "I didn’t mean to disrespect my mothers. It’s a serious question, one where I will decide how many is too many."
"Brat, you’re only allowed to take three by law with explicit permission from your preceding wives..."
"Who’s gonna obey that...?" Azariel looked away as he muttered under his breath.
Davis smirked wryly, "Look, I can attest to the fact that your mothers love me wholeheartedly and would like to believe that would be the case even after many years, but reality ends up being different in most cases. I’m not even a hundred years old, so I wouldn’t know what a thousand years would be like, what ten thousand years would be like, or even a million years would be like for our relationships."
"Would they still love the same person when so many toads are present? It’s like gambling. An average mortal’s lifespan is only a hundred years, but even they can’t suppress their urges to see another person within a year or two of some untoward happening or simply being bored. For immortals like us, it would surely be stifling to be with the same partner for thousands of years, yet to pierce through that boredom and hardship is also what commitment to love is, and such loyalty could only be found in a select few."
Azariel nodded, "I see..."
"But you have so many..."
"..." Davis blinked, turning to stare at his son, "They’re one in a million, and the human population is like quadrillion at the extreme minimum, understand?"
His voice was grim, like he was forcing Azariel to swallow the answer.
"... Yes..." Azariel giggled. It was obvious to him his father was coping.
However, he did wish their family remained the same without any cracks forming in it. He loved it here. All the mothers were good to him. They dared not offend him, and he dared not disrespect them as he knew he would get his ass whooped by his mother, Evelynn.
"If they can stay with me for a million years and more despite my shortcomings, then they’re like one in a trillion or even a quadrillion." Davis’s eyes were wide as though he was looking into the future, his gaze starry.
"Yes, yes..." Azariel tuned into his father’s delusion.
He had also been to cities and knew the number of cheating women in cities were high. He totally looked down on them, but most of these women were like the third wife and the subsequent wives like the one so far off that she is cast into some kind of cold palace, so he guessed too many would backfire.
"If you randomly pick a woman in some city, some locality, some street, chances are they are not virtuous in their character, so if you want to marry, look for someone who embodies a virtuous character in your mind but don’t fall for traps. Women are very good at hiding their other faces, and without something like Heart Intent, you wouldn’t be able to fully see through their true intentions." Davis advised more.
Azariel nodded thrice, knowing already since he just thought about it. However, he cast a never-before-seen envious look at his father.
"Father is basically taking a shortcut with Heart Intent... I wish I also possessed such a beneficial power..."
Davis chuckled, appearing proud, "I, your father, only used it at the initial stages of courtship. Later, it’s not wise to use it on them again and again. It is not sincere and would show your incapability to have a relationship without relying on it."
"Why is that?" Azariel narrowed his brows, "Managing to learn Heart Intent is your capability, is it not? What’s so insincere about it?"
"Haha, human morality is like that. If it’s not something the majority uses, then you’re taking a shortcut and would be looked down upon."
"Humans are stupid." Azariel’s lips curled into one of derision, "It’s a good thing I’m a fey who wants to take what I want from the virtue of my strength."
Davis raised his hand and slapped his head lightly, "You should only use something like that to those who have offended you and deserve to have something taken from them. If you act like those atrocious people who behave like villains for no apparent reason, then I will clip your wings and make you swim here in depression."
"Wha- stupid father! Die!"
Azariel couldn’t believe he was struck on the back of his head, much less the statement that his wings would be clipped. His anger flared.
"You dare be disrespectful without overcoming my strength? Die!"
Davis also reciprocated with an equal amount of energy, simply having fun.
Of course, he didn’t mean that, but if he wasn’t strict, then the amount of evil his kids would do innocently was unimaginable.
Everything started innocently. Even bullies were once innocent, but once they get drunk in their feeling of power, then that would truly corrupt them.
His children had the capacity to be true bullies and villains, and it was easier to become one when they were armed with wealth and power, but he was determined not to let them fall into such a corrupt way of living.
Azariel was the type to be a bit rebellious and not accept advice from him or anyone else at this point in life, so Davis had no choice but to be a bit forceful. Like many, Azariel also respected strength and valor. He knew his son looked up to him very much, but the feeling of wanting to surpass him was also there just as much, if not more.
But how could he sit back and let that happen?
Davis was also equally, if not more, competitive. He also let his son vent out his hurt feelings today, as he got hit a few times on purpose. But in actuality, it became a good father-son bonding time, making Davis glad that he was here for his son today.
After he was done with Azariel, he went to look for Lucian in the night.
Coincidentally, it seems like Lucian and the maid in question were having a rendezvous in a secluded spot in the garden.
