Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4456: Hostiles Descend

Chapter 4456: Hostiles Descend

*Rumble!~*

In the distance, the skies rumbled, and dark black clouds began to gather. A tremendous force of nature kicked into the dark world, sweeping the surrounding nether haze around like it was some dust before it gathered around in a circle and looked as though it formed a battle arena of its own with the single person silently hovering at the center of the eye of the storm.

"What is that?" A Nether Springs Death Wolf asked.

"That’s a Destructive Heavenly Tribulation." Yom answered, his big eyes squinting, "That woman is also a Divergent, how shrewd... even the Patriarch wasn’t able to pick up on it..."

A few seconds passed, and a few more wolves appeared.

Yin, Hela, Raga, and the other male Emperor-Tier Nether Springs Death Wolf, along with the Patriarch, were also here. Their expressions were complicated, not knowing why they were supporting or ignoring Divergents when they should be killing them.

It was all because of Nadia who brought them here.

"What’s the use? We have killed our fair share of Divergents. A Nether Devourer Beast actually attacked the beings of the Nether Dimension and devoured them to grow stronger. There was even an Umbral Spiketongue Lizard that disappeared, actually causing others to forget it even existed in the first place for that duration, not to mention a Nether Devil Divergent who was actually white-skinned and capable of using extremely pure death energy that could match Nadia’s death energy."

"...!" The wolves were stunned.

In their lifetime, they had seen two or three Divergents but hadn’t seen these Divergents. The Nether Dimension was desolate compared to other places, and most Divergents would simply die before they could make it big because of the extremely hostile environment.

How could they survive if they were hunted by their own clan in the first place?

The Patriarch sighed, "The heavens never seem to forgive us no matter how we earn karmic virtue. This time around, I feel it would be better if we follow little Nadia’s lead. That little girl seemed like she could hold on her own if she could lead a bunch of other Emperor-Tier Empyrean Beast like that Nethermoon Mirage Rabbit."

"I suspect it is because of the man they talked about," Yom interjected with narrowed eyes, "It’s highly possible that he’s also a Divergent."

"Probably an Anarchic Divergent like little Nadia, perhaps even more powerful," Patriarch added, basically heightening their fears.

They were scared.

This decision might lead to the certain death of their clan, not leaving any member behind. Perhaps not even a single one of them would be able to survive in the aftermath of what’s to come. They were afraid that their long years of hope and survival would simply go to waste. However, the future that they envisioned with Nadia’s lead was also one of hope.

If breaking the curse means divergence, then they came to the conclusion that that is what they must do.

They were collectively tired and exhausted of waiting for the heavens to forgive them.

Soon, the tribulation ended, and the guests returned.

Rokushi Mirai and the others stopped.

There was a dark flair about her now, her darkness aura brimming with a dangerous light. The Nether Springs Death Wolves could sense that she could end them if they did not use the Divine Nether Totem. However, that could be said the same about nearly everything in their surroundings. They were not afraid.

"Get ready. Your tribulation will have attracted some flies from other clans."

The Patriarch said.

Naturally, Illumina and the others had gotten permission before going through such a thing in the jurisdiction of the Nether Springs Death Wolf Clan. They did not overstep their bounds and then cried wolf later on. The consensus was that they would deal with any foes that were below the Exalt Stage by themselves, and the Nether Springs Death Wolf Clan would deal with the Exalt Stage experts.

*Rumble!~*

Nearly two minutes later, where the tribulation had not fully faded, keeping the skies dim and destructive aura reverberating, a distant echo began to resonate. It started with screeches, as though thousands of malicious howls combined together to resound through the region.

Illumina narrowed her eyes.

In the far horizon, blotting out the twisted dark sky covered by nether haze, giant silhouettes could be seen.

They could see nearly tens of thousands of them, making them narrow their eyes.

From the silhouette alone, they could make out what it was since no other being would match the appearance of those triangular heads and three horns.

The Nether Devils had come.

"How...?" Illumina was shaken, and so were the others.

They had never seen so many Nether Devils in one place.

"That’s most likely an army led under the banner of a Nether Devilarch." The Patriarch pursed his lips, "To think that they were nearby the region... they must have been planning an attack sooner or later but must’ve come storming through when they would’ve seen the Destructive Empyrean Tribulation."

*Dum!~* *Dum!~* *Dum!~*

The war drums beat, and screeching war horns resounded across the mountain basin when the Nether Devils stepped out of the nether haze mist.

Ten thousand Nether Devils surged forth like a nightmare tide, spreading across the air and ground, climbing the mountainous walls and carving a path for themselves with bestial dexterity. Clearly, they enjoyed destroying their surroundings.

An Empyrean Stage Nether Devil was a thousand meters tall, but there were ones smaller than that, their undulations at the Immortal Emperor Stage. They also held crude bone weapons made from their prey or their own kin. Some even had colossal cleavers, clubs made of stitched flesh, and shields.

Their skin tone was the same, dark purple as the Nether Devils they had met. Their other characteristics included blood-red eyes, three horns on their heads, two bat-like wings twice the height of their body, and devilish faces resembling that of a monster. However, many of them bore ritualistic marks on their bodies, some still bleeding from it.

"The mark of an arrow piercing the earth. Hmm, how unlucky. They’re from Devilarch Arkrall’s army, probably a single division that is out here to hunt and rake in some achievements."

The Patriarch said with a deep frown on his face while rubbing his chin, "They usually have Exalt Stage Nether Devils leading them. Ah, there they are..."

*Boom!~*

The land shuddered under their weight.

The sky was already dark, but this time, it practically went colorless, turning pitch-black. Nearly six Nether Devils, their size nearly ten times greater than the Empyrean Stage Nether Devils, descended. Their bodies were more pitch-black and possessed purple intonations of strange nether runes.

Regardless, the resulting undulations from them made the entire region rock and shake as though the entire world was shaking.

Their formation stopped just short of the outer boundary of the Nether Springs Death Wolf Clan’s Territory. However, their gaze wasn’t on the clan itself. It was in the area where the Destructive Heavenly Tribulation occurred.

"Where did the prey go?"

An amused yet curious voice, grating to the bones, resounded across the region.

At this moment, some of the clans that settled here had already gathered.

The Nether Orb Cobra, Gloomtail Howler Ape, Abyssal Bonefeather Vulture, Shadowtusk Nether Boar, Hollow-Eyed Ghoul Panther, and the Umbral Spiketongue Lizard. Their auras blazed at the Exalt Stage even though they were Peak Empyrean Beasts. Clearly, they were using their Divine Nether Totems.

However, they didn’t attack yet, and they were also curious as to who the Divergent was.

Finally, all of their gaze landed on the Nether Springs Death Wolf Clan since this was near their territory.

If anyone got to the Divergent first, then it would be the Nether Springs Death Wolf Clan.

Illumina and the others’ hearts chilled as they held their breaths. The multitude of tremendous and deadly aura enveloping the region was palpable and nothing short of terrifying for the current them.

To be quickly surrounded by Exalt Stage experts, it was like they were reintroduced to the Nether Dimension for the first time. It was a miracle that they didn’t meet any Exalt Stage beings on their journey, even if they proceeded carefully.
