Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 3865 Last Day Of Rest

Chapter 3865  Last Day Of Rest

"As for you— you can leave since your treasure was stolen and we are unable to help you reclaim it. We won't hold it against you."

"…"

Rokushi Mirai stared at Dark Archbishop Cyprusio.

He said that, but there was not much difference between letting her go and killing her, as chances were that they might leak information about her whereabouts in order to completely seal her lips, even if she knew nothing about the Heavenly Blight Hall's inner workings.

"I'll stay. After all, the Divine Emperor of Death has hired me to divert the forces from banding together and killing his friends."

She uttered her words blandly, turning away to head to her accommodation. She was weary. The tiredness stemmed from using the black-white stone to deal with the pursuers and also from the stress of losing the treasure. She hadn't slept these few days and wanted to sleep but dared not with strangers all around.

However, she had reached her limit.

"Do as you please."

Dark Archbishop Cyprusio, whose expression was dark, smiled lightly before he also walked away.

He was surprised that a prideful inheritor like Rokushi Mirai didn't dare go against the Divine Emperor of Death. Had the fear of having her treasure taken away in an instant without being able to do anything to retaliate overwhelmed her?

"This is going to be interesting…"

However, he muttered ever so lightly, looking forward to the execution, as he couldn't predict what was going to happen. The Divine Emperor of Death's family was nowhere to be seen. His little sister, Clara, was going to be arrested at the very least.

What would he do?

An Anarchic Divergent's rage was nothing to be laughed at.

========

Davis sat cross-legged in his room.

He had a whole mansion to himself. He didn't know where he was, but it was probably a mini-realm that the Heavenly Blight Hall hid themselves in. He had heard that they would set out in a day to save his friends and kill Clara, but after he told them to stay away from her, he didn't know if they would even take him out.

However, he had little to no idea of letting misunderstandings remain between him and the Heavenly Blight Hall.

He made his intentions clear, and if they did something as foolish as trying to assassinate her again, then he could attack them without reserve. He wasn't afraid. Not only did he have Fallen Heaven— Grimoire of Fate— but he also had the Forged Fragment of the Tablet of Life and Death.

'No one… Absolutely no one harms my little sister…'

Davis clenched his fists.

He had been together with her from the day she was born. He was practically the one who raised her since their mother and father were always busy with political affairs or nightly affairs. He didn't blame them anymore for the latter, as he finally understood their needs.

After all, even though he had children, he rarely went to see them and instead partook in lovemaking with his wives.

He was even more of a shitty father than Logan. He felt guilty, unable to play with Eterna and the others even now. The eldest two had already grown up so much from using time chambers, just six or seven years away from reaching their teens. He was filled with lament, but he couldn't do anything about it as there wasn't enough time with survival at stake and his wives' happiness were his top priority.

Nonetheless, Clara was his precious little sister. The day he held her in his arms was the day he swore he would protect her in this cruel world at all costs.

However, she was different. Due to her physique, she matured faster than anyone else.

At the young age of five, she was already asking him philosophical questions, leaving him speechless. He had to give her some smart-sounding answers or else risk losing respect. He had walked such thin bridges and was quite attached to receiving her approval until he married Evelynn.

Even now, he still occasionally looked for a bit of her approval, as he couldn't bear seeing her look at him with hateful eyes. He always wanted her to look up to him; he wanted to be her big brother whom she could rely on.

She was special—the only woman whom he didn't have romantic feelings for yet could give the world if she so desired. He loved seeing her smile, even if it was just a minor curl of her lips.

However, when it became clear that the heavens could control her, things went downhill. Everything became bleak. She rarely smiled anymore. She hated herself for harming Ellia. She hated herself for being a liability and a great risk to the family.

It was obvious, but he couldn't offer enough words for her to come out of it sooner.

One part of him couldn't help but think she ran away because she no longer wanted to be a liability, and the other part because she secretly hated them for making her life a living hell because her physique just wasn't looking to make relations with Divergents.

Fortunately, it didn't seem that way, as his Clara was still the same old Clara who was stern yet caring. She had enormous willpower and courage. He didn't doubt she would've reached the ninth step in the Stair of Regression if she had taken part. He confirmed that she was content multiple times through using Enigmatic Heart Laws, so he relaxed, but her exit when Autarch Yulan Nazarin came to investigate was truly startling.

He had no choice but to think she had sacrificed her happiness for the sake of the family, all because he had failed to meet up to her reliance— the expectations everyone else also had for him since Autarch Yulan Nazarin could've successfully trounced them.

"Don't worry, Clara… I will come get you as promised…"

Davis muttered ever so lightly.

He took out the black-white stone but kept it inside again after some time. He didn't have the focus to play with it anymore. He was mentally fatigued. This didn't mean he was out of soul force. It was just the opposite.

Not one bit of his soul force was used.

Soul force is the energy stemming from soul essence located in the upper dantian.

Psyche, or focus, are intangible factors related to mental fatigue.

For a cultivator, stress due to cultivation or cultivation deviation, a lack of sleep for a long period of time, cognitive overload, and sensory overload are just a few of the factors that can contribute to mental fatigue.

For a construct like a flying ship, if transcendent crystals are fuel, then if the propulsion device can't take the heat any longer and starts degrading, that's called metal fatigue. The same thing happened for runes when Davis and the others were overusing the flying ship's spatial warp mechanism. The runes were unable to withstand the internal heat from the constant usage and were damaged.

The same way, using soul force or other energy that doesn't belong to oneself requires their soul to bear the weight, which becomes mental fatigue. For this reason, the more one used a treasure above their level, the quicker they would lose their focus, suffering from mental fatigue and needing sleep to restore it naturally.

Of course, there are artificial means, like consuming a pill that would clear the mind and help focus, but that would only put more burden on the soul essence itself, leading to untoward consequences or mental sequelae that hamper growth or even breakthroughs at the last second.

Regardless, Davis had used up all his focus in his investigation of the black-white stone, not to mention practicing with it in the last three days, and hence needed to go to sleep.

Otherwise, he would mess up at the crucial moment.

Just as he was about to sleep on the bed, he heard a nock on the door to his living room.

Davis raised his brows.

Naturally, he didn't have the core to the mansion, so he didn't detect shit. The walls were also made up of spectacular Empyrean Grade materials, so he couldn't send his senses through. Nonetheless, he wasn't the slightest bit anxious as he went to open the door, ready to smash the Forged Fragment of the Tablet of Life and Death on them.

That enchanted stone was no different than a brick.

However, what he saw was Rokushi Mirai upon opening the door.

"What's wrong?"

Davis asked as he saw her look exhausted.

"Excuse me."

Rokushi Mirai didn't say many words. She walked past him, entering his room. It made Davis blink. He closed the door and locked it, following her path, and saw her head to his bedroom, making him blink again with a frown filling his expression.

His footsteps hastened, and he saw her climbing on the bed.

However, maybe because she felt his stare, she crawled back and spread a sheet on the floor before lying down and closing her eyes. Her actions screamed efficiency, not even leaving room for the slightest unnecessary motion. However, that wasn't the point.

Davis walked closer and stared at her, his face cold.

"Are you mocking me?"

Rokushi Mirai opened her baggy eyes, staring at him with the same intensity.

"No. You need me during the execution. Let me get some rest, and I'll be of help to you."

She said it and went back to sleep.

"…" Davis silently smiled, his fist raising as he wanted to punch her in the gut again.

Did she forget the pain already?

He wanted to sleep, but how could he sleep by having her in the same room?

"What assurance can you give me that you won't attack me during sleep?" He asked, ready to beat her down.

"Chain me if you want to. I don't care anymore. I just want to sleep…"

However, with her eyes still closed, Rokushi Mirai gave him the wildest answer he couldn't predict.

"…" Davis narrowed his eyes.

For her to be coming back to someone who manhandled her, had the Heavenly Blight Hall planned to dispose of her? Or was she just being paranoid?

'Did she sense some danger to her life?'

Davis wondered, staring at her sleeping figure for a few moments before he inwardly sighed.

He had his soul body monitor the room before he also went to sleep on the bed. He quickly fell asleep, unaware of the few shadows that left the mansion.
