Chapter 702: Chapter 701: A Sorrowful Past

With the Chen Family taken care of, the Iron Blood methods Qin Feng had displayed that day completely intimidated the rest of the town’s inhabitants. From now on, anyone who even thought of harming the Qin Family would surely have to consider whether they could withstand Qin Feng’s wrath.

That night, Lin Yun and the others enjoyed a hearty feast at the Qin residence. Qin Shitian was so happy that he drank too much, and in the end, it was Qin Shanhe who had to help him back to his room.

After spending the night at the Qin residence, Lin Yun and the others prepared to leave the next day. Before they left, Lin Yun took out a considerable number of Elixirs from his Space Ring and gave them to Qin Shitian and Qin Shanhe.

These Elixirs, while not enough to reach the Celestial Spirit Realm, would have no problem raising their Cultivation to the Primordial Ocean Realm.

Qin Feng said nothing in response to Lin Yun’s gesture. As martial brothers, there was no need for such pleasantries. Qin Feng also took out some Healing Elixirs, though not as many as Lin Yun had given. Additionally, he gave Qin Shitian a Communication Token so that he could be contacted if anything happened.

Although his heart ached to leave, Qin Feng did not delay for long. The group quickly departed from the small town.

Watching Qin Feng’s departing figure, Qin Shitian’s old eyes grew moist. He knew that after this farewell, there was no telling when he would see his grandson again.

But Qin Shitian had no regrets. A man was meant to roam the world and make his name. Qin Shitian and Qin Shanhe were already old, but Qin Feng was different. His world was not this remote little town, but the entire Celestial Spirit Continent.

He believed that by following Lin Yun, Qin Feng would one day contend with the greatest Demon Fiends of the Celestial Spirit Continent. And as for Lin Yun, he too would make the entire Celestial Spirit Continent remember his name.

After leaving the town, the group flew toward the Yunlu Mountain Range, only stopping when they were above a dilapidated little village.

They slowly descended into an open area in the village. This was Lan Xi’s home—the very place where she and Lin Yun had first met.

Gazing at the desolate, lifeless village, tears welled up and streamed from the corners of Lan Xi’s eyes. Seeing this, Lin Yun stepped forward, gently pulled her into his embrace, and whispered comfortingly, "Don’t worry. I will make the Wind Forest Sect pay for this."

The last thing Lin Yun intended to do before leaving Yanhuang Country was to destroy the Wind Forest Sect. He had once sworn an oath to personally annihilate the sect, and now, the time had come.

The group went together to a small hillock behind the village. Here lay over a hundred graves, but so much time had passed that they were now completely overgrown with weeds.

Without a word, Lin Yun began clearing the weeds from a gravestone. Seeing this, Lan Xi and the others joined him, and together they began to clean the graves.

An entire hour passed before all the weeds were cleared from the graves. Then, Lan Xi took some ritual offerings from her Space Ring.

Looking at the hundred-odd graves before him, Lin Yun kowtowed three times. These villagers had been the most ordinary of people, but they were also the people he respected most.

Having returned to the village where she had once lived, Lan Xi wanted to stay a while longer. Lin Yun did not rush her; everyone decided to spend the night in the village and set out for the Wind Forest Sect in the morning.

As the group prepared to spend the night, Lu Bingning and Mo Qingliu accompanied Lan Xi to pay respects at her parents’ graves. Qin Feng set about repairing a house for them to stay in, while Lin Yun went into the mountains to hunt some Demon Beasts.

The house Qin Feng was told to repair was Lan Xi’s former home. No one had lived there for many years, and it had fallen into disrepair.

In truth, repairing the house or not made no difference to the group. However, Lin Yun clearly wanted Lan Xi to find closure for this pain in her heart, so he had Qin Feng repair it anyway.

Taking Little Ape with him, Lin Yun headed straight for the Yunlu Mountain Range. Deep within the mountains, he easily hunted down a Tier Three Demon Beast. He then hoisted the massive carcass onto his shoulder and effortlessly carried it back toward the village.

As Lin Yun reached the village entrance, carrying the kill on his shoulder, he could almost see the simple, honest villagers sitting there again. Upon seeing him, one of them would call out with a hearty laugh.

"Lin Shan, you’re back, you rascal......"

He saw the villagers at the entrance, the children playing off to the side, and the little girl named Lan Xi who used to cling to him constantly.

But in the blink of an eye, the villagers vanished, and the scene before him returned to that of a dilapidated, ruined village.

Shaking his head, Lin Yun knew that some things were lost forever. Even as a peerless expert of the Spirit Realm, he could not bring the dead back to life.

With a slight shake of his head, Lin Yun carried the Tier Three Demon Beast’s carcass into the village. By then, Qin Feng had finished his repairs on the house. Although it was a simple job, it looked much better than before.

After starting a fire, Lin Yun began preparing to roast the meat. Just then, Lu Bingning, Mo Qingliu, and Lan Xi returned. Lan Xi’s eyes were red, a clear sign she had been crying moments before.

That evening, the group sat together. Lin Yun took a jug of wine from his Space Ring, and in that dilapidated little village, they ate roasted meat and drank.

Around midnight, Qin Feng and the others went off to cultivate. Lu Bingning and Mo Qingliu also took their leave. They all knew Lan Xi was heartbroken today, so the two women were considerate enough to give her and Lin Yun some space.

Sitting in the courtyard of her old home, Lan Xi gazed at the familiar scene. Her voice choked with emotion as she said, "I wonder what it would be like... if I were still living in this little village."

What she meant was that if the villagers hadn’t died, this little village might have remained just as it was before—peaceful, serene, and untroubled by the outside world.

In a place as remote as this, a village like this might not have changed for a hundred years. The outside world could be wracked by storms, but this place would have remained a sanctuary of tranquility.

She leaned gently against Lin Yun’s shoulder, and neither of them spoke. Lin Yun understood the sorrow in her heart. Right now, all he wanted was to be with her in the quiet.

All the villagers were dead. That was a fact that could not be changed. The only thing Lin Yun could do now was avenge the hundred-plus people of this village.

Even if it meant washing the Wind Forest Sect in blood, Lin Yun would not hesitate. He would use the lives of the sect’s thousands of Disciples to atone for the hundred-plus villagers of this small hamlet.

"Lan Xi, I’m sorry," Lin Yun said, his voice full of apology as he held her. "If only back then..."

But before Lin Yun could finish, Lan Xi cut him off. "It’s not your fault. I’m sure no one from the village ever blamed you, either. This wasn’t your fault."
