Divine Emperor Demon Emperor

Chapter 679: Chapter 678: The End of Endless Ages
As the Grand Commander of the Divine Palace spoke, the other two Divine Palace Commanders cried out in unison, "Grand Commander...!"
Hearing their cries, the Grand Commander of the Divine Palace waved his hand and said, "I know. But it has come to this. Don’t force anyone. Those of you who no longer wish to fight, throw down your weapons."
He paused for a moment before continuing, his tone growing firm and cold. "Those who do not wish to fight, drop your weapons. Those who still wish to fight alongside me, raise your weapons and fight the Demon Palace to the death."
Hearing the Grand Commander’s words, the remaining Divine Palace Warriors fell silent for a long moment. Then, more than half of them dropped their weapons. However, nearly two thousand still stood behind the Grand Commander.
Looking at the Grand Commander of the Divine Palace, the Fifth Commander’s eyes held a trace of sorrow as he asked, "Grand Commander, you know victory is impossible. Why are you doing this?"
Hearing the Fifth Commander’s question, a smile appeared on the Grand Commander’s face. "To each his own. You believe life is what’s most important, but in my eyes, some things are more important than life—like the backbone of a Divine Palace Warrior."
At these words, the Fifth Commander fell silent. He looked at the Grand Commander and the other two Commanders by his side, a complex expression in his eyes.
The Grand Commander ultimately did not choose to surrender. Seeing this, the Grand Commander of the Demon Palace ordered his men to take the surrendered Divine Palace Warriors, along with the Fourth and Fifth Commanders, back to the Demon Palace’s main camp to be held under guard.
The surrendered Divine Palace Warriors were led away, with some Demon Palace Warriors assigned to guard them. Still, nearly ten thousand Demon Palace Warriors remained on the field. The Grand Commander of the Demon Palace looked at the Grand Commander of the Divine Palace and spoke.
"Come. Today is the day we put an end to this war that has spanned generations."
As his words fell, the Demon Palace Warriors charged the Divine Palace Warriors who had not surrendered. A group of Demon Palace Commanders also rushed the Grand Commander of the Divine Palace and his two remaining men.
Watching the scene unfold, Lin Yun felt a flicker of admiration for the Grand Commander of the Divine Palace. ’Someone who would defend the dignity of a Divine Palace Commander with their life is truly worthy of respect. Just as the Grand Commander said, life is indeed precious, but some things are even more important. At times, you wouldn’t regret sacrificing your life to protect them.’
Sighing softly, Lin Yun said to Xi Zijin and the others beside him, "The outcome is decided. I’m going to make a trip into Divine Celestial City."
Hearing this, Xi Zijin knew Lin Yun wanted to find Qing Zhu and the others. She immediately said, "I’ll go with you. It’s too dangerous for you to go alone."
"No need. Qing Zhu hasn’t shown herself, which means she has already given up on the legacy and treasures of these ruins. I can go by myself," Lin Yun replied. Not letting Xi Zijin follow, he took Little Ape with him—without even the Black-striped Tiger—and flew toward Divine Celestial City.
Flying toward the center of Divine Celestial City, Lin Yun didn’t head for the main hall. Instead, he went to the small courtyard where Qing Zhu had kept him under house arrest. Before he even landed, Lin Yun saw Qing Zhu sitting alone on a bamboo chair in the courtyard.
Just as Lin Yun landed in the courtyard, Qing Zhu, who had just taken a sip of Cyan Wine, smiled and said, "I knew you would come."
Looking at the perfectly calm and composed Qing Zhu, Lin Yun knew there was only one reason he had come. He believed Qing Zhu knew the secret of these ruins, and he wanted to find out what her true objective was.
In Lin Yun’s mind, if Qing Zhu could so easily give up on the ruins’ legacy and treasures, then she must have already obtained something even more important from this place. He just didn’t know what this "more important thing" was yet, but he guessed it was probably the secret hidden within the ruins.
"What was your real reason for entering these ruins?" Lin Yun asked, his tone somewhat cold as he looked at Qing Zhu.
With a charming smile, Qing Zhu set down her wine cup and looked at Lin Yun. "Sit down and have a drink. Or do you prefer to stand while we talk?"
Seeing her like this, Lin Yun sat down in the bamboo chair next to her. After he was seated, Qing Zhu poured him a cup of Cyan Wine.
"Speak. You gave up the legacy and treasures of the ruins so readily. What is the secret of this place? What did you really want to get from these ruins?" Lin Yun asked directly.
Hearing Lin Yun’s question, Qing Zhu didn’t answer. Instead, she said evasively, "The final outcome is decided, isn’t it? I never thought I would actually lose to you in this world. But no matter. It makes things more interesting. After all, our true battlefield is on the Celestial Spirit Continent, wouldn’t you agree?"
She smiled at Lin Yun. Seeing this, Lin Yun hated the feeling he was having. He knew next to nothing about these ruins—everything was just speculation on his part—while Qing Zhu clearly knew a great deal. By now, he was certain that Qing Zhu had already gotten what she wanted. That was why she wasn’t too upset about failing to obtain the ruins’ legacy and treasures. And what Lin Yun most wanted to know now was what, within these ruins, was so important to Qing Zhu that it surpassed even the legacy and treasures.
Her eyes remained fixed on Lin Yun. After a long moment, he averted his gaze, picked up the cup on the table, and took a drink of the fine wine. ’She’s not going to tell me, no matter how much I press her.’
’Since Qing Zhu won’t talk, I’ll have to investigate myself after the dust settles. I have to figure out the secret of these ruins.’
"We’ve been in this world for over half a year now. After we leave, the Eastern Domain will likely become our true battlefield," Qing Zhu said faintly when she saw Lin Yun had stopped asking questions.
"You used me to subdue the Taiqing Academy. And judging by Song Tianyang and Lin Jianhong’s attitudes toward you, you’ve probably had Celestial Eagle Valley and the Wuji Sect under your control for a while now, haven’t you?" Lin Yun replied.
Hearing this, Qing Zhu just gave a faint smile and didn’t answer.
Celestial Eagle Valley was indeed under Qing Zhu’s control; it was now a member of the Qing Zhu Association. However, she did not control the Wuji Sect. Only Song Tianyang had joined the Qing Zhu Association, and he had done so in secret. Even his master, Wuji Sect’s Sect Leader Wan Tai, had no idea that Song Tianyang was part of the Qing Zhu Association.
Qing Zhu was right. Once they left this place, their battlefield would return to the Eastern Domain of the Celestial Spirit Continent. That was their real battlefield—one they could not afford to lose.
He didn’t know why Qing Zhu wanted to unify the entire Eastern Domain, but whatever her reasons were, Lin Yun would not let her succeed. Because the one to unify the entire Eastern Domain could only be him.
