Chapter 613: Chapter 613: The Origin of the Demon Palace

After walking for about a kilometer deep into the earth, a three-meter-tall, old wooden door suddenly appeared before Lin Yun. The Grand Commander pushed it open and led him inside.

Upon entering, Lin Yun discovered the place was like a room for storing ancient texts, filled everywhere with timeworn tomes.

Ancient texts surrounded them. In the center of the room were a table and a few chairs. The Grand Commander led Lin Yun to a chair, and after they sat down, he took an ancient text from a nearby bookshelf.

He flipped through a few pages, and when he reached the entry on the Heaven-Destroying Demon Ape, the Grand Commander handed the ancient text to Lin Yun and said calmly, "This is an ancient text that has been passed down in the Demon Palace since its founding. It’s how I learned of the Heaven-Destroying Demon Ape."

Hearing the Grand Commander’s words, Lin Yun took the ancient text and began to read it carefully. The description of the Heaven-Destroying Demon Ape wasn’t detailed, but it covered the basics.

After finishing the entry in the ancient text, Lin Yun looked at the Grand Commander and asked, "Grand Commander, may I ask how the Demon Palace was founded? And also, do you know about the Divine Realm and the Demon Realm?"

A flicker of confusion crossed the Grand Commander’s face when he heard Lin Yun’s question. ’Divine Realm and Demon Realm? What are those? I’ve never heard of them.’

Although the Grand Commander had never heard of the Divine Realm and the Demon Realm, he slowly began to explain the Demon Palace’s origins in response to Lin Yun’s question.

The Grand Commander wasn’t entirely clear on the specifics himself. The Demon Palace had existed for countless years, and all he knew was that the Divine Palace and the Demon Palace had been established at almost the same time.

Furthermore, as soon as these two powers came into being, they were like natural enemies, locked in an endless struggle within this world.

The Grand Commander couldn’t explain why they fought. He only knew that as the war raged on, the hatred between the two factions grew ever deeper, and the death toll climbed ever higher.

Like fire and water, the people of the Demon Palace and the Divine Palace were destined to be enemies from the moment they were born.

Lin Yun was a little disappointed by the Grand Commander’s explanation. The man didn’t know the specific origins of the Demon Palace, nor did he know anything about the Divine Realm or the Demon Realm.

However, Lin Yun was now certain of one thing: the people of this world had likely been forcibly confined here long ago by the powerful expert who had sealed this space. ’But why would this expert do that?’

’Was it simply to make these two factions fight each other endlessly in this world?’

His questions remained unanswered. However, the Grand Commander then told Lin Yun about the legend of the "people who fell from the sky."

Although the legend had been passed down for generations in the Demon Palace, no one had ever personally seen one of these "people who fell from the sky," so the Grand Commander had never paid it much mind.

But after meeting Lin Yun and his companions, the Grand Commander suddenly recalled something related to these people.

According to legend, the people who fell from the sky would descend upon this world. With their help, the world’s age-old conflict could finally be brought to an end. When that happened, the true secret hidden within this world would be revealed to them.

"The people who fell from the sky... in the Demon Palace’s oldest legends, they were also called the Unravelers," the Grand Commander muttered to himself.

"It’s just that now, these people have chosen different sides—the Divine Palace and the Demon Palace. This part differs from the legend," the Grand Commander added after a pause.

"The Unravelers, huh?" Lin Yun said softly. From the Grand Commander’s words, he surmised that ending the conflict between the Divine Palace and the Demon Palace was likely the trial given to them by the powerful expert who created these ruins.

’In other words, if I and my companions help the Demon Palace defeat the Divine Palace, then I’ll be able to learn the secrets of this world, and perhaps the ruins themselves.’

Though the questions in his heart weren’t answered, there was one good thing: at least Lin Yun now had a clear direction.

All he had to do now was help the Demon Palace defeat the Divine Palace, and everything else should fall into place. Besides, since he didn’t know how to leave this world, he didn’t really have any other choice.

’Just like Xi Zijin said, I really know how to pick ’em. I chose the weaker Demon Palace.’ After leaving the black hall, a Demon Palace Warrior led Lin Yun to the quarters prepared for him and his group.

It was a small, separate courtyard next to the Grand Commander’s own, quiet and exquisitely arranged. As Lin Yun walked in, he immediately saw the Monk and the others sitting in the yard, waiting for him.

Seeing Lin Yun return, the Monk and Daoist eagerly pulled him down to sit with them. "How did it go?" they asked impatiently. "Did you find anything out?"

The Monk and Daoist knew Lin Yun had gone with the Grand Commander to ask about this world, and they were extremely curious themselves. Most importantly, none of them knew how to leave this place yet.

At their question, Lin Yun gave a slight shake of his head. Seeing this, clear disappointment showed on the faces of the Monk and Daoist.

But Lin Yun’s next words made their spirits lift once more.

"However, while I didn’t get all the answers, I at least have a direction now. To leave this place, we first have to uncover the secrets hidden within this world and these ruins. And to do that, we have to end the conflict in this world. In other words, we must help the Demon Palace completely defeat the Divine Palace..."

Hearing this, a look of joy crossed their faces, but it soon faded into resignation. Qing Zhu and her group had chosen the Divine Palace, which meant their objective was naturally to help the Divine Palace vanquish the Demon Palace.

Not only would they have to face Qing Zhu’s group, but the Demon Palace’s current strength was far inferior to the Divine Palace’s. Helping the Demon Palace win would be anything but simple.

"Young Master Lin, can I just say, you really don’t know how to choose, do you?" the Daoist said with a helpless look at Lin Yun.

Lin Yun just smiled faintly without refuting him. He finally understood now why Qing Zhu had shown that rare flash of anger when he’d first chosen the Demon Palace.

’This must be the reason. If I had also chosen the Divine Palace, then destroying the Demon Palace would have been much easier for them. But since I chose the Demon Palace, it’s become much more difficult for Qing Zhu and her group to help the Divine Palace succeed.’

Having chosen the Demon Palace, Lin Yun couldn’t possibly stand by and watch it be destroyed. His and his companions’ ability to leave this world depended on it.

You could say that Lin Yun’s group and the Demon Palace were now in the same boat; their fates were tied together. If Lin Yun wanted to solve his mysteries and leave this place, he had to ensure the Demon Palace was victorious.
