Chapter 357 - (EDT) Rescue (5)
They remained in full alert while witnessing how the Tyrant's shadow slowly retreated back into the woods. All of them finally exhaled the mouthful of air they were holding after a minute or so.
And even if the Tyrant Variant had left, their heart still continues to palpitate in fear. This was indeed a battle they wished it never happened.
Was it not because they had the sniper support from the 002 Assailant-Class, a few of them would have been injured in this fight.
"Roar!" as they loosen up, the growl from the Tyrant still made all of them raise their weapon subconsciously.
"Calm down..." Zhang Qin Feng's order followed after the noise that Tyrant made. Through the Luna Sensor in his eyes, Zhang Qin Feng could notice the difference in the zombie's movement.
It was not a rallying call for another attack but more like a retreat. All the zombies surrounding them had dispersed from what was shown on the sensor, with only a tiny number left.
"Bzzt... This is Rearguard-2. No more targets appear in my scope. You're clear, Vanguard Leaders." the sniper reported onboard the 002 Assailant-Class' maintenance crane.
It seems this was his only way to reach the height of where Zhang Qin Feng and his team were located.
"Affirmative. Thank you, sniper." Zhang Qin Feng didn't forget to express his gratitude to the sniper that saved his team's life.
"Always around to serve, Boss. Sniper out." the call disconnected.
Then, it was connected to the two vessel's captains.
"001 and 002, you may proceed to the 20th-kilometer checkpoint. We'll meet you there and collect the required supplies for a temporary outpost," said Zhang Qin Feng.
"This is 001's captain. Roger that."
"This is 002. Roger that."
Both captains acknowledge Zhang Qin Feng's order and are prepared to depart as soon as they're ready. Since Zhang Qin Feng already mentioned the meeting at the final checkpoint of the day, there's no other reason for them to linger around here any longer.
"Alright. We'll be continuing with our mission. Let's finish the last four kilometers at one go and start building up our outpost before nightfall."
"Check your ammunition and injuries. Abandon the broken weapons. Remain full alert while moving. We don't need to separate anymore. Report to your team's captain the moment we're ready to move!" Zhang Qin Feng said.
In less than five minutes, everyone was done checking their equipment and munition. There's hardly anyone injured, but most of them were fatigued due to the intense battle they had a little earlier.
The evening was already here when Zhang Qin Feng and twenty other soldiers arrived at this cliff. Although this location is quite difficult for the soldiers to freely access the land, delivering supplies to those on the island surface is still possible.
Some supplies were delivered via protective air balloons to reduce the damage during impact. And immediately after the goods landed on the ground, everyone cooperated to get them assembled.
Meanwhile, Zhang Qin Feng was sitting on the edge of the cliff overlooking the sea and the two Assailant-Class Patrol Ships beneath him.
He was still processing the experience of fighting against this Tyrant Variant earlier with his people. This monster is so far the most brilliant zombie opponent they ever had, after Lamia, the zombie capable of breeding the Satella Clone Tyrants.
The more he thinks about the possibility of what the zombies would become, the further is the sense of fear in his mind. From the regular runners to screamers and Tyrants, these were still manageable by Zhang Qin Feng.
But things started to get more complicated as it got closer to the level of the Radioactive Tyrant back in the new Wind Base, the Lamia in Turbine Town, and this Tyrant Variant.
He has no doubt that crazier monsters will slowly appear in the future. Furthermore, nobody knew to what extent is the power of the Tyrant King in Strand Metropolis.
'We have to think about what to do later... We can't continue to rely on the technology these people once possessed. Without development, this world would be surely swallowed by the Seed Crystal Virus eventually.' Zhang Qin Feng tells himself as he randomly grabbed a pebble and flung it toward the sea.
"Deploy the barricade properly! Make sure the partition is connected and test the energy grid before assuming it was complete. And remember, we're on our own here tonight, and this location is too elevated for the two vessels to provide us with support." Zhang Qin Feng yelled.
"Yes, Boss!" they quickly acknowledge his words and pay more attention to assembling the barricade. After the protective wall was completed, the soldiers divided their resting time into two different shifts, six hours each.
And just like Zhang Qin Feng calculated, they're indeed besieged by the zombies and Tyrants on nightfall. Luckily, their carefulness paid off as the carriers found it challenging to overcome the barricade deployed by Zhang Qin Feng and his team.
They were attacked thrice throughout the night.
And from his rough estimation, they had killed at least thirty thousand zombies and close to three hundred Tyrants from the beachside twenty kilometers away until here.
Although he was happy that the Dimensional Storage is swimming with Duranium Shards and Antiviral Material, Zhang Qin Feng couldn't help but feel worried.
Suppose a twenty-kilometers trip could allow them to encounter around thirty thousand zombies and three hundred Tyrants. What would it be when he's trying to get into the center of this continent?
Would the zombie swarm be over a million strong?
Carrying this thought with him, Zhang Qin Feng and his team proceeded on the following morning.
It was oddly peaceful as they were only obstructed by less than a thousand zombies towards the second checkpoint. Even after pushing the Luna Sensor to its limit, Zhang Qin Feng discovered no hint of Tyrant-Class zombie near them at all.
The suspicious-looking peace made every one remain alert as they established their next outpost on another cliff. This time, this location is entirely impossible for the two Assailant to provide cover fire at all.
But to prepare themselves for the worst-case scenario, Zhang Qin Feng ordered the two ships to guard their checkpoint in the distance. Everyone remained alert as they knew that tonight was not going to be a quiet night.
"ROAR!"
