Dimensional Store System In Apocalypse

Chapter 257 - Nest (3)

"How did this happen? Did all of you slack on your duty during midnight to dawn?" Shaun asked. He was still shocked by this sight.

"I'm sure that nothing of such during our shift," said Queenie. She was the one on duty throughout the night, and she's known for taking everything seriously. If she said that something like this was not around at night, then that's what it looks like.

"Boss." Shaun didn't reply to Queenie but greets Zhang Qin Feng instead. The leader gets on top of the truck and takes a closer look around them.

"Why are they not attacking? Has anything like this happened before?" Zhang Qin Feng asked.

Their camping spot was about to be compromised by the zombie horde surrounding them. From estimation, there should be around 3,000 to 5,000 zombies here. But the weird thing is, from where and how did they came here undetected?

It feels like they fell into someone's trap.

'Stein, why did the sonar detector not reacted towards the zombies?' Zhang Qin Feng asked. The system remained quiet for a moment as it tried to develop a proper explanation. Still, when the answer came out, even the system found it hard to believe.

The sonar detector still detected nothing around them.

Nobody dares to open fire at the zombies, afraid that they'll get attacked from the slightest distraction. But the more Zhang Qin Feng look at the zombie horde, the more suspicious he's getting.

'There's no smell nor growling from the zombies... Not a single higher-tier zombies are with them either. These zombies didn't move and were not attracted by human smell or movement either...'

'Are they... Really zombies?' Zhang Qin Feng tried to look past the zombie horde but find it filled by the zombies as further as his eye can look. They'll only get themselves killed if they get aggressive with the zombies.

'Stein, keep sending sonar waves. If there's not enough energy with the system, convert them automatically from the number of Duranium Shards I have in my pocket!' Zhang Qin Feng ordered. He felt like they got themselves into a tricky situation.

Two of his fingers went to the Luna Device to cancel the vibrating alarm. And then, he whispered gently by putting his right fist close to his lips.

"Listen to me. We might be trapped by our opponents. But right now, I'm not sure if they're human or zombies. Grab a position as quietly as you can before I give the order to shoot at the zombies. Try to not aim for the zombies but the space above their heads."

"Make sure that you retreat and close the gap in expecting for a retaliation. Does anyone have a question here?" Zhang Qin Feng explained his strategy and what to do next. With Stein's report coming back soon, it won't take him too long to get the answer he wants regarding this situation.

[The system noticed some interruption frequency and irregularity when it gets about thirty meters away from our location. Such feedback can only be found from anti-static material such as the soldier's bulletproof armor and reactive plating tanks]

Zhang Qin Feng sneakily smiled after he got the answer he wants from the system.

"Ready," Zhang Qin Feng gets his people to point their guns at the zombie horde. A few of the soldier's hand is still shaking from the fear. This is not a mere group of ten or so zombies but exceeding a thousand in numbers.

Even if they managed to stop the zombies from approaching, this number would be more than their ammunition and gun can take on. And with Zhang Qin Feng is here with them, they had no other choice but to bet on their leader's decision.

"Fire!" Zhang Qin Feng ordered.

Along with Satella, Shaun, and Queenie, the soldiers fired indiscriminately above the heads of the zombies. The bullets sounded like they went through some kind of material as the zombie crowd's image is dispersing.

Like a pile of holograms of data crashed and fallen down to the ground, the zombie horde vanished and revealed what was hidden behind the holographic material. It was actually a doctored image that was previously used before the apocalypse.

"These are not zombies! We're under attack by survivors! Engage and capture them!" Zhang Qin Feng immediately ordered. Their retaliation took the survivors by surprise as they spread out from their defensive position and tried to capture as many people as possible.

The electronics on the ground were literally pointless the moment the deceptive sight was broken. But again, Zhang Qin Feng and his group were lucky because none of the survivors here has a gun while trying to keep them here.

If they do, perhaps the losing side was Zhang Qin Feng, and not them.

"Who the hell are you? And what is your motive for trying to keep us here?" Satella asked. She was angry by what transpired and found it hard to keep herself calm. For her, this is a whole new level of deception that got her by surprise.

Were it not because Zhang Qin Feng's safety was about to be compromised, she wouldn't be so obedient from the start until now. Based on her personality, Satella would've charged into the horde and forcefully open a way for them to return to the Wind Base.

"Please! Don't kill us!" these people were begging for their life as Satella questioned them. They all looked malnourished due to the lack of food and supplies.

Perhaps, they're counted as lucky because they had no weapon on them when their trick was exposed.

If they do, a few casualties would be unavoidable.

"Speak. Where did you come from? And how do you appear around us without getting caught by our sensor?" Zhang Qin Feng took a can of ration out from his backpack and waved it around the survivor.

"We... We have a jamming device to cheat our way out of the sensors. This is how we stay alive!" one of the survivors said.

"Good answer. This is yours." Zhang Qin Feng tossed the canned food at the survivor.

"Queenie, drag the one there here. It's his turn to answer my question," said Zhang Qin Feng.
