Chapter 180 - New Wind Base (4)
"Alright, why don't you start telling me the truth about what happened here?" Zhang Qin Feng asked. He might have the patience to listen to their story, but he doesn't have much time to spare for them. Out of the one week allocated for this expedition, four days were used to come to this place.
If they cannot take control over this facility peacefully in the next two days, then a much more forceful way would have to be done.
The trio looked at one another with a mind was full of the question if this group of people could be trusted. But at the very least, these people didn't start their conversation by firing their guns freely. After contemplating for a moment before the food in front of them, the trio finally gave in.
"My name is Shaun. We... As he said, we have no leader here. Everyone was relying on themselves right now." the one from the balcony said. He was an honest-looking man with a silhouette similar to Alex.
"Why was that?" Zhang Qin Feng asked. It would be weird for a facility as big as this if they don't have a leader. Furthermore, based on the cleanliness of the facility entrance, it was not something can be done by a group of survivors without someone leading them.
"Well... We used to have a leader, but she was bitten and turned into a zombie about a month ago... After that, someone else took over the position, but he eventually got bitten as well. In these four weeks, we've to change four leaders, and nobody is willing to take that position right now." Shaun's reply answered Zhang Qin Feng's curiosity.
"Four leaders in a month? And to make it worst, the leader was the one that was bitten and turned into a zombie? Shouldn't the leader be the one standing at the back? What makes the leader get bitten all the time?" Zhang Qin Feng asked. Listening to what Shaun said made him curious if that's really the case.
And since Stein did not detect any changes in Shaun's tone and behavior, he's not lying either.
Based on this information alone, it tells a lot about why this facility has no people leading the survivors. Anyone sane would know that becoming the leader equals picking the next turn ticket to their death.
Because of this reason, made everyone in this survivor base turn against one another. Some of them banded together to form their own smaller group, and few decided to make a run out of the facility for a better life.
But these people would usually be the first ones to die.
Their death was not the problem, as they already abandoned the facility. But the problem lies in the provision they took away while leaving the base. These items were often crucial to the facility itself.
Up to date, there are at least twenty survivors left the facility with many pieces of equipment crucial to the facility's day-to-day operation. The whereabouts of all these people were unknown, but what was known is that they indirectly cause the facility to operate restrictively due to their abandonment.
The power control, water treatment, and facility access were a few of the operating systems that affected the most.
"Hmm... No wonder this facility looked like this right now. You guys are counted lucky that no zombies are wandering into this area. Or else, everyone would likely become their meal immediately." Zhang Qin Feng said.
"What about the zombies that gathered in the middle of the facility? What are you guys have to do with that?" Zhang Qin Feng asked. He's curious about why a facility like this would have over a thousand zombies loitering in the core area.
"Oh, that... Since you're an outsider, I'm sure you know that there's a kind of evolved zombie that looks much bigger than the others?" Shaun said.
"Yes. What's wrong with that?" Zhang Qin Feng asked.
"Our previous leader, she turned straight into that thing and ran amok whenever there are no zombies for her to eat. To ensure that she doesn't get wild and start wrecking the buildings, we purposely fenced that area with all the zombies inside there for her to feed." Shaun said.
"What? You guys are feeding a Tyrant with the zombies you've captured? Do you know what will happen if a Tyrant fed too? They might go through another evolution, and things will only get worst." Zhang Qin Feng said.
"You people are literally digging for your own grave right now, don't you know that?" Zhang Qin Feng said.
The trio wanted to add something else before angering Zhang Qin Feng. But their opportunity was gone when the sound of gunshots can be heard from their location.
"Oh shit! Who the hell fired their weapon?" Shaun's expression becomes ugly after the gunshots. He looks worried about something else.
"What's happen?" Zhang Qin Feng asked.
"Not good. Based on the sound of the gunshots, it comes from a few of them, not just one or two. Our base has eight guns, and two are here with us. One of them was a pistol, so it shouldn't be able to fire continuously."
"That means these gunshots came from the Facility Control Tower. That place was the closest to where the monster rest. If the gunshots really came from there, then it only means trouble is coming!" the facial expression of fear and panic can be seen in the trio's appearance.
**WOAH!**
And what they fear the most really happened. Before Zhang Qin Feng's group reacted, the roar from the Tyrant can be heard a few hundred meters away.
"Not good. Our previous leader is awake. If the gunfighting continues, she's going to be lured by the sound and break through the fence we put up! If that really happened, thousand of zombies will be pouring out from the place without control!" Shaun was shaking.
There was a hint of fear in his eyes as he looked like he wanted to escape before it was too late.
"Bring us there. We'll help you to control the zombies." Zhang Qin Feng offered.
"R - Really?" Shaun asked.
