Chapter 167 - Large-Scale Attack (6)
"Incoming! Southern side!" a soldier shouts as his post started to feel the pressure from all the incoming zombies. Their numbers were not as much as a horde, but having multiple zombies here and there still felt about the same.
"Support is here! Reload your weapon first. I'll take care of it until you're ready." said another soldier as he placed his hand on his colleague's shoulder.
"Thank - Thank you! I'll take a few quick breaths." the soldier's leg felt powerless as he fell on the ground. Although this was already his fifth or sixth battle against the zombies with numbers multiple times more than them, he still finds it challenging to keep his composure in control.
When one kills too much, he will need to undergo psychological treatment to keep his sanity intact. Even if the target was not human, it was still a target that resembles themselves.
After calming himself using five or so minutes, the soldier got on his foot again and tapped his companion's shoulder.
"Are you sure you're fine?" he asked.
"Yes, I am." the soldier replied.
...
...
The zombie's attack finally stopped coming when the sun rises. Their activities significantly get slower than before, like exhausted engines.
"Take the opportunity to rest for now. We'll be on our way again after two hours. Those on duty for the night leave your position and get your meal before rest."
"And those that managed to get a rest last night, count your remaining supplied and then come to me with your supplies list." Zhang Qin Feng gave his order as he walked from the upper floors to the ground floor.
"Boss, we've found something weird. Please come with us to the outside." one of the soldiers said.
"Weird? What's weird about it?" Zhang Qin Feng asked. But nevertheless, he followed them outside with Satella accompanying him.
The two of them walked about 15 meters out of the building and noticed that there's a weird-looking entrance expanded out here from the ground. It was spacious enough for the zombies to came and go from here.
"What the hell is this?" Zhang Qin Feng asked. Even Stein was unable to answer his question immediately. The system went into its analysis mode while Zhang Qin Feng was searching the surrounding for more answers.
The entrance was too clean, as if it was drilled using a ground-boring machine. If this happened to appear around the Wind Base, it would undoubtedly turn the base into hell instantly as nobody will know where the zombie came from.
"Satella, have you seen something like this before?" Zhang Qin Feng asked. But his question was pointless because Satella couldn't answer him. She doesn't even have a single clue about what was happening here.
'Damn... If Marvin or Victor was here, they could at least answer how dangerous this entrance is and how it appeared out of nowhere.' Zhang Qin Feng was blaming himself partially.
"Boss! We found something else." a soldier came to Zhang Qin Feng with something like the skin of some creature. But the condition of this skin was too bad to recognize from what animal it came.
'Stein..." Zhang Qin Feng made a simple call to the system and absorbed the item into the Dimensional Storage in secret. Feeling that he shouldn't dabble in this matter too much, he decided to set this matter aside and return to the abandoned building.
The forty-four of them set out from the building two hours later after resupplying their ammunition, food, and other essential single-use items.
[Toot... The system evaluates that the risk of this expedition has increased by 3%. Advising the user to focus more on survival and not traveling speed unless necessary. Would the user like to order more of the Physique Serum and Fitness Serum for an emergency?]
The system came up with a suggestion as it finds it difficult to evaluate its situation precisely.
'Approved. Proceed with the manufacturing. Always make sure that the system stays alert to our surroundings. If there's a significant movement around us, report it to me as soon as...' Zhang Qin Feng was in the middle of communicating with Stein mentally until tremors came at where they stand.
"Oh, shit." Zhang Qin Feng shook his head.
"Pay attention to your surrounding. I'm afraid we're getting closer to the main reason why the number of zombies continues to grow without control." Zhang Qin Feng said as he tightens his grip over the Centurion Rifle.
[Enemy attack! Enemy attack!]
Stein's alarm came uncontrollably.
"We're under attack! Shoot all moving targets! No mercy!" Zhang Qin Feng ordered. The Anti-Materiel Rifle was also brought out from his Dimensional Storage to be position at the core of their formation.
*Hong! - Hong! - Hong!*
The tremors stopped about a minute after they remove their weapon's safety. In the next second, a pair of hands appeared and pulled an unlucky soldier into the earth. A blood-curdling cry was heard before the ground he fell into caved in and revealed a big, empty hole.
"Woo..." this was the sign of the zombie's attack as the first zombie was crawling out from the entrance that killed one of the survivors.
"Battle station! Battle station! You're free to engage and neutralize the threat!" Zhang Qin Feng raised his voice and gave the order to engage.
Shots were fired into the hole until a Tyrant jumped out from the entrance and started to run amok on the ground.
Its behavior was a questionable one as the Tyrant seems no different from protecting that entrance from collapsing.
"Heed my order! Fire a few Decimators into that damn hole right now!" Zhang Qin Feng said. A few soldiers immediately responded to his order and pulled the Decimator out from their back. Activating the weapon took less than fifteen seconds. Still, it takes the zombie less time to respond to the human scent outside the entrance.
At least close to a hundred zombies crawled out from the entrance and made trouble on this location.
"RPG! FIRING!" a soldier shouted to warn the other soldiers near him. Everyone's hope was on the warhead he fired straight to the entrance swarming with zombies.
"WOAH!" then, another Tyrant came out to destroy their hope. A third one soon followed as the warhead's explosion failed to significantly impact the entrance.
"We're F*CKED..." Zhang Qin Feng said.
