Chapter 905: Chapter 904: Sleep Meets Pillow

On Lake Heart Island, in a barracks at the foot of the Angel Giant Tree, Yu Sheng told everyone everything he knew.

The battle at the end of time, the Dragon Clan homeworld that kept collapsing and reknitting itself, the tide of memories the giant dragons left beneath the crystal dome, that fortress standing on the final battlefield, and the ancient banner flying high atop its ramparts, emblazoned with a golden double-headed giant dragon.

All of this was etched deep into Yu Sheng’s Mind through memory resonance, so clear it was practically like he’d just lived it himself.

Baili Qing sat on the other side of the table and never once interrupted his account. Her face was as taut as ever, making it impossible to read what she was thinking. Even Baili Xue, who’d been lively all this time, had gone quiet now, plastered obediently to the tabletop without making a sound.

White Cut and Salt Roasted were huddled silently in one corner of the room. It wasn’t that they had any concept of "the adults are doing important business, so we need to be quiet"; it was purely because Hu Li was right there watching them, and the two furballs were scared of getting smacked again.

"That banner..." Only after Yu Sheng finished did Baili Qing finally break the silence. "What did it look like?"

"I’ll draw it for you."

Yu Sheng gave a small nod, speaking as he picked up pen and paper from beside him, then carefully sketched the golden double-headed giant dragon he’d seen in the illusion.

Several pairs of eyes leaned in together. Erin poked her head out over the edge of the table for a look, then silently raised her head toward Yu Sheng. "...So what’s with the dumplings stuck on the ends of two chopsticks?"

Yu Sheng: "..."

Erin looked completely helpless. "And you still had that much confidence you could draw it..."

"Forget it, I’ll just see for myself," even Baili Qing almost lost control of her expression when she glanced at Yu Sheng’s scrawl on the paper. She could only keep her face stiff and look into his eyes. "You don’t mind making that part of your memory available to me, do you? Like... the way we cooperated before."

Yu Sheng had no objections; this wasn’t the first time, after all.

In Baili Qing’s eyes, those gray-white irises almost completely faded of color, he opened up the portion of his memory he had just witnessed.

Baili Qing’s eyes flickered with a faint light, a layer of mist rippling out around her. Phantom memory images floated in that haze, scenes recorded in the crystal dome flashing across it one after another.

"Those giant dragons—your kin—really did possess tremendous power," Yu Sheng said to Baili Qing, watching the projection of his memories spill into the air. "More than once they almost managed to hold the power of the Great Annihilation outside their homeworld. Only, it still couldn’t stop the collapse of the entire world...

"Looking at it now, in the final moments they must have sealed something inside that crystal dome—the message mentioned some kind of racial legacy.

"It might be a database that stores the knowledge created by the giant dragon civilization. Or it could refer to some residual power, maybe the crystal dome itself...

"Anyway, the key point is that the state of this legacy is clearly different from the ’Dark Moon Royal Court’ we encountered before, and also unlike the other Angel’s Legacy fragments I’ve seen... It’s in some sort of encrypted state."

Erin dangled from the table edge for a bit, then suddenly scrambled up, hands and feet together, to sit cross-legged across from Yu Sheng. "Encrypted? What’s that supposed to mean?"

"The kind of state where it’s there, but you can’t see it or touch it," Yu Sheng said offhandedly.

"Oh, oh." The Little Puppet nodded repeatedly, then suddenly frowned. "Wait, that doesn’t make sense. Didn’t you hear it in the message? Those giant dragons said... if there are later arrivals, the legacy can be freely accessed or something. If they’re saying ’freely accessed,’ what are they encrypting it for?"

"That... I haven’t figured out either," Yu Sheng said, brow furrowing. "At first I thought it was just some characteristic of that crystal dome as a piece of Historical Fragments, kind of like how there was a Barrier on the surface of the Mirror Rift in the Dark Moon Royal Court. But after coming into contact with the memory echoes lingering in that airspace, I realized that that unobservable state seems to be deliberate design.

"As for the purpose of that design... like you said, it seems to contradict the ’legacy freely accessed’ line in the message."

As Yu Sheng’s voice faded, everyone in the room couldn’t help looking at one another (except for White Cut and Salt Roasted, whose gazes never managed to line up with anyone’s). After quite a while, Zheng Zhi—who’d been too scared to speak and was huddled beside the table pretending to be a potted plant—suddenly raised a hand. "Maybe it wasn’t meant to guard against us, but against natural disasters or something. I mean, look at how harsh the environment around it is, right..."

Erin thought it over, folded her arms, and nodded. "Not gonna lie, that kind of makes sense."

"Or here’s a second possibility," Hu Li suddenly spoke up as well. "Maybe the legacy they left behind is somewhat dangerous—if you’re not strong enough, touching it could kill you. The encryption is some sort of screening mechanism."

Erin thought it over again, still hugging her arms, and nodded. "Not gonna lie, that also makes sense."

Luna chimed in too. "Maybe it... was originally designed... to auto-decrypt, but the time was too long, and it broke down."

Erin: "Not gonna lie..."

Yu Sheng couldn’t take it anymore and raised a hand to cut the Little Puppet off. "Alright, enough. No matter who talks, you think it makes sense—anyway, whether it’s a legacy or not isn’t the important part right now. What matters is how we解除 that crystal dome’s invisible state. Anyone got ideas?"

The fox girl thought for a bit, and her gaze fell on the two colorful furballs squatting in the corner, pawing at grass sticks.

White Cut: "Goo goo?"

"White Cut and Salt Roasted are obviously reacting to that area," Hu Li said. "This might be related to the fact that their transformation happened under the catalysis of those crystal shards—the transformation process established a connection between them and the ’Dome’."

Yu Sheng rubbed his chin: "So..."

"Following this logic, what if we strengthen their connection a bit more?" The fox girl looked very serious. "Later we get more crystal shards and hang them all over the two of them, see if in the next couple of days we can catalyze them a bit more."

White Cut and Salt Roasted listened in a daze, their four eyes blinking in all directions. Then they suddenly processed what was being said, hugged each other, and started yelling: "We don’t want to work! We don’t want to work! We don’t wanna..."

Hu Li raised her fist and knocked them twice: "Yell what! Who said anything about making you go to work! I’m talking about having you continue your cultivation!"

"Oh, oh..."

Yu Sheng didn’t speak for the moment, just listened to Hu Li talking with the two sisters, and then his own thoughts started bubbling up.

"Do you still remember how that large crystal shard in the Hilly Land fell down?" he suddenly asked.

"How else would it fall..." The Little Puppet scratched her hair, not quite sure why Yu Sheng was asking this. "It just fell out of the clouds..."

"No, what I mean is: what happened at the time that made that shard fall?" Yu Sheng said as he organized his thoughts. "That large crystal in the Hilly Land is clearly a part that broke off from the Dome, and yet you can see it and touch it—in other words, the fall of that shard means the ’encryption’ of the Dome itself might already be weakening. So what factor caused this weakening?"

"System got old after running too long?" Erin said offhand. "Hard to say that’s impossible. It’s been through the Great Annihilation, maybe soaked in the void for ages—what system can still run properly after that? Even the Endless Sea back in the day ran for ten thousand years and still had all kinds of bugs in the late stage..."

The Little Puppet muttered away, and just then Hu Li suddenly said: "The Calibrator booted up at the time."

Erin froze, blinking: "...Huh?"

"Right, that’s a very likely influencing factor," Yu Sheng nodded immediately. "Its effective range is extremely broad, interfering with the mathematical and orderly foundations within a certain scope, causing perturbations on the information level—before that shard fell, only the Calibrator’s boot sequence matches those conditions."

Erin thought hard, her not‑so‑bright brain running at full speed before spitting out the most straightforward idea: "...So that thing got ’shaken’ down when the Calibrator booted up?"

Yu Sheng thought about it: "Feels pretty imprecise phrasing, but yeah, you can kind of understand it that way."

"Then next, are we gonna ’shake’ it again?" Erin asked curiously. "Turn the Calibrator off and then on again? Or have the old tree stretch as hard as it can into the Cloud Sea and see if it can poke the Dome?"

Yu Sheng: "...Let’s not talk about the first idea for now, but isn’t the second plan a bit too ridiculous?"

The Little Puppet, hands on her hips, argued energetically: "Ah, you don’t know. The old tree might really grow like that. Back home when it was the Eternal Holy Tree, its predatory branches reached almost to low orbit, the leaves on the treetop doing photosynthesis directly in space. When nutrients weren’t enough, it’d grab passing meteorites and eat them—there were two Great Mages living inside its trunk whose main job was to yank rich‑ore asteroids out of the asteroid belt for it."

Erin paused here, then added with feeling: "The old tree now is several circles smaller than when I first met it. At best it only counts as a sapling..."

Yu Sheng was stunned listening to all this.

And right then, a big swarm of dazzling paper slips suddenly rode the wind into the barracks, cutting off the Little Puppet’s nonstop rambling.

The paper slips circled twice in the middle of the room and turned into Lucrecia’s form. This Miss Witch wore a smile on her face: "I don’t know what you’re talking about, but just now it sounded like someone mentioned the Calibrator’s init... Who are these two?!"

Miss Witch stared, dumbfounded, at the two pieces of Colorful Chicken Essence squatting on the ground not far away, asking in total shock.

"White Cut and Salt Roasted. They suddenly transformed; the situation’s a bit complicated, I’ll explain in detail later," Yu Sheng waved his hand, forcibly dragging the topic back. "What about the Calibrator?"

Lucrecia listened in a daze; she clearly had a lot she wanted to ask, but under Yu Sheng’s gaze she still prioritized continuing the previous topic: "Ah, I came to say the calibration data packet has been fully parsed, and the Calibrator’s own adjustments have reached the minimum threshold—I discussed it with my father, and we think that before the full system goes online, we can first do a test run..."

"A trial run of the Calibrator?" Yu Sheng’s eyes lit up at once, and he instinctively exchanged a look with Hu Li beside him.

This really was sleepiness meeting a soft pillow!
