Chapter 864 - 863: Moon Fills the Sky
Chapter 864: Chapter 863: Moon Fills the Sky
At No. 66 Wutong Road, Yu Sheng was gnawing on a bun in the restaurant with a solid sneeze, startling the little puppet playing with a smartwatch on the dining table, almost making it fall to the ground.
Erin looked up, "What’s up? Did some fox fur crawl into your nose again?"
"No, it’s just that my nose feels itchy," Yu Sheng rubbed his nose and glanced at the Nine-Tailed Fox next to him, who was dipping a bun into a stew with a large basin and touched her ear, "The stew is performing well today, quite temperate."
The fox girl squinted her eyes, reveling in enjoyment.
Yu Sheng sped up his eating, remembering the day’s schedule; he needed to confirm the current situation with Baili Qing and proceed to further investigate the rift. Depending on circumstances, he might also need to look into those anomalous spaces in the forest along the way...
A sudden and unprovoked sense of palpitations emerged, with spiritual intuition abruptly interrupting Yu Sheng’s thoughts and actions, making him stop suddenly, and almost simultaneously, Luna, who was watering succulents on the balcony, turned into a shadow and instantly teleported over.
"Master, there’s something outside."
Yu Sheng stood up from the table by this time, running in a few steps to the window to look outside.
In just those short two or three steps, a blood-colored moonlight had already poured through the window into the living room, enshrouding everything in a layer of hazy dark red, and outside, the forest was completely immersed in moonlight, with towering giant trees greeting the sky from outside the isolation wall. In the night, the tree shadows swayed and wriggled like countless uneasy tentacles against the backdrop of the sky.
The alarm sounded, and drones ascended from the center of the camp, faintly accompanied by broadcast voices.
"Something’s happened, let’s go."
Yu Sheng quickly said, grabbed an Erin with black hair from the windowsill under his arm, and strode toward the door. Hu Li quickly wiped her mouth and followed along with Luna.
As they were about to reach the door, Hu Li suddenly remembered something and turned to the dining table calling out, "Go wash the dishes! Then go to the fridge yourself—don’t go to the freezer, go to the cooler, got it!"
Then the fox stew in the restaurant busily tidied up the table...
Maintaining her position under Yu Sheng’s arm, Erin turned her head to see this, her eyes widening, "Silly fox, your food is gaining intelligence, damn—"
Yu Sheng also noticed, thinking it was hard to say if it was gaining intelligence, but at this rate, maybe someday something Hu Li stews will be smarter than this little shorty...
Afterwards, the group hurried out the door, seeing that the camp outside was already bustling with tension and activity.
Familiar scents quickly approached, and Yu Sheng looked up, unsurprised to see Red and Baili Qing walking briskly towards them.
"Just in time, I was planning to come find you," Yu Sheng actively greeted Baili Qing, "What’s the situation now?"
"We don’t know either; the change happened suddenly. The monitoring equipment set in the forest didn’t catch any early signals," Baili Qing spoke quickly, "I was originally discussing matters related to her memory with Red, and as soon as I stepped outside, I saw the anomaly in the sky."
Yu Sheng frowned slightly, instinctively turning his gaze to Red beside Baili Qing, "...Do you feel anything unusual now?"
Red hesitated for a moment, then slowly opened her mouth, "To be honest, since just now, I’ve been hearing some light noises, but besides that, nothing else seems abnormal."
"Sounds like typical symptoms of mild spiritual pollution," Erin analyzed seriously, and then suddenly squirmed under Yu Sheng’s arm, "Hey, can you hold me in a less embarrassing way at least..."
Before Erin could bite him, Yu Sheng quickly picked up the little puppet and placed her on his shoulder, instinctively looking up at the sky.
The sky was suffused with eerie red moonlight, clearly emanating from the most prominent mirror rift above the forest—this rift looked more than twice its original size, with the blood moon hanging in it displaying eerie fluctuations on its surface. Besides the blood moon, all the scenery within the rift seemed extraordinarily blurred, presenting a surreal image as if dissolving in the moonlight.
All the plants in the entire forest also appeared to be influenced by the moonlight, the towering trees convulsing and swaying in the moonlight, with the sound of plants frantically growing coming from everywhere, alongside distant rumbling sounds occurring from time to time. These were things from the Tree Angel’s Dream starting to overflow and reorganize into the real world.
All Special Service Bureau teams active in the forest had already retreated to the foyer camp, while many solo Erin puppets had fallen into anomalous spaces, occasionally reappearing in the camp via sudden teleportation, bringing along personal recording devices capturing scenes of eerie settings that defy human rational comprehension.
At this moment, Erin, sitting on Yu Sheng’s shoulder and scanning the surroundings, seemed to suddenly remember something, "Wait, Big nephew, where did he go? In this situation, shouldn’t he be the first to rush over?!"
Yu Sheng’s face changed slightly upon hearing this, "Oh no! Can’t be, seriously, does he have to...?"
Just as he exclaimed half-way, Zheng Zhi’s voice came from not far away, puffing and panting, "I’m here! I’m here!"
Everyone turned to look, seeing Zheng Zhi hurriedly running from the direction of the camp wall, holding onto a chain, the other end of which was tied to an old red motorcycle.
Yu Sheng tried hard to ignore the motorcycle trailing behind Zheng Zhi (after all, he was used to the countless strange phenomena always surrounding this guy), frowned, and asked, "It’s so dangerous outside, what were you doing?"
"I came back immediately when I saw things going wrong," Zheng Zhi shrank his neck, "I was out walking the dog."
Hu Li looked behind Zheng Zhi, "...Where’s your dog?"
Zheng Zhi was stunned for a moment, then turned to look and was suddenly shocked, "Hey, where’s my dog... why is it you?!"
The motorcycle was also shocked, making the voice of the 1984 version of Optimus Prime, "Yeah, where’s the dog, why is it me?!"
Yu Sheng felt overwhelmed, not expecting his nephew’s performance to be so consistent at such a critical moment, "Alright, alright, let’s not discuss this. Something’s not right here, you go inside No. 66 Wutong Road first..."
A rumble like suppressed thunder suddenly came from the direction of the forest, interrupting Yu Sheng’s unfinished words.
Along with the rumble came violent shaking of the ground and a rising haze and flash in the distance.
Yu Sheng instinctively looked toward the direction of the loud noise, and almost at the same time, a Flying Carpet quickly swept across the sky and landed beside the group.
Lucrecia sat in the middle of the Flying Carpet, waving at Yu Sheng, "Over here!"
Without hesitation, Yu Sheng got on the Flying Carpet with the Little Puppet, and Zheng Zhi, bewildered for a moment, also climbed up in confusion.
They flew into the air together with Lucrecia.
The next second, Yu Sheng saw what was happening in the forest.
The whole forest was... turning into a frenzied Dream Realm.
He really couldn’t find a better term to describe the scene before him, as this Forest Sea formed by Tree Angels had lost its stable form and was collapsing and reorganizing every second.
Centered around the gigantic Mirror Rift, intense distortion and collapse spread throughout the entire forest. Towering trees transformed into twisted Towers in the blink of an eye, only to collapse into rolling mountains the next moment. The landscapes of cities and wilderness alternated on the ground, only to be melted away by the blood-red moonlight in a flash. Yu Sheng saw a tall mountain rising in the depths of the Forest Sea, but in the blink of an eye, the mountain turned into gigantic waves that collapsed and struck on the spreading treetops into overwhelming bubbles. Huge factory facilities with a steampunk style briefly emerged from the shattered waves, blowing a whistle before crashing back into the Forest Sea.
Immediately, the part of the forest closest to the Mirror Rift began collapsing, the continuous giant trees seemed to be pulled by an invisible force towards the Rift, then collapsed into a suddenly appeared sinkhole in the middle of the forest. A massive void was rapidly spreading there, and everything that fell into it vanished without a trace in the blink of an eye.
But that collapse area did not extend infinitely. It quickly expanded to a range of over a thousand meters around the Mirror Rift and then stopped.
Now, the Rift was no longer part of the forest but suspended in isolation above the Great Void. The moonlight pouring from the Rift fell into the void like water, gradually overflowing, even exhibiting ripples as if they were substantial.
Yu Sheng suddenly felt a tug on the back of his head, followed by the Little Puppet’s voice from his shoulder—
"Old Tree! Is it you?! I can’t hear what you’re saying—"
Yu Sheng whirled around to look at Erin, "You heard the voice of the Tree Angel? It can finally contact you?!"
"I heard it, but it’s unclear!" Erin said anxiously, "The voice was booming, mixed with noises of many people shouting..."
Yu Sheng opened his mouth, about to say something, but suddenly heard Zheng Zhi’s voice from beside him.
"Brother Yu...I feel something’s not right..."
Yu Sheng turned to see that Zheng Zhi, who had clumsily climbed up earlier, was sitting on the Flying Carpet in a stiff and awkward posture. His head was tilted to one side, his hands twisted unnaturally behind his back and over his head, and fine roots and branches...were rapidly emerging from his body.
Almost in the blink of an eye, Zheng Zhi appeared in a state of fusion and symbiosis between human and plant, with half of his face covered by mottled bark, and a hoarse, aged voice coming from his throat—
"Omen...I hear your voice...is that really you..."
It wasn’t Zheng Zhi’s voice at all, but rather a sound like the rough rubbing of massive wood, slow and deep, carrying an aura as if not fully awake from a dream.
Erin’s eyes widened as she looked at the now mostly transformed Tree Man Zheng Zhi, screaming, "Old Tree, don’t mess around! He’s one of our own—"
But the next second, she heard Zheng Zhi’s own voice again from that body, "Ah, actually I’m fine..."
"Yes, he’s- fine..." Zheng Zhi’s voice ended, morphing back into that extremely slow voice of the Tree Angel, "You couldn’t hear clearly, so I found a...a voice that can articulate..."
Yu Sheng and Erin exchanged glances and then exclaimed in unison, "Is that possible?!"
