Chapter 856 - 855: Startling Dream
Chapter 856: Chapter 855: Startling Dream
While Yu Sheng and Erin began discussing whether the Omen Goddess’s ominous remarks were a curse or a blessing, over at the Red side, the analysis of the mirror structures at the Rift border had also begun.
It was a kind of power that others could not comprehend, originating from an ancient alien civilization long lost to the Old World—fine prisms sprouted like some living thing between Red’s fingers, spreading into the air in a web of expanding light beams, and these minute mirrored surfaces started to interact with the Rift sky, supplementing the fragmented points of the Rift’s edges.
Red attempted to mend the broken border of the mirror world back together, at least to find a pathway within those fractured mapping relationships that might connect the interior with the exterior.
She worked cautiously, employing those ancient skills and her innate expertise with care, yet even she herself could not completely comprehend the process—some things had been present in her memory from the beginning, and when invoking these memories, she sometimes couldn’t distinguish between past and present, reality and illusion.
Every "old thing" that had crawled out from the depths of time was like this... well, except for Ah Qing.
Lucky little dragon hatchling.
Past memories began to blend in her mind, accompanied by a low buzzing and distant chimes in her ears, as a blood-red moonlight spread around her, sometimes warm, sometimes cold.
Red still kept her eyes tightly shut, imprinting all these "impressions" onto the constantly shifting mirrored surfaces. She tried recalling some trivial little things—studying clockworks together with Fault, listening to the director’s rambling reminiscences, hearing Kant complain about each messed-up day off, teasing Ah Qing as she learned to fly, and taking Ah Qing from low orbit into the atmosphere...
These vibrant memories belonging to the New World continually surged in her mind, assisting her in resisting the illusions emerging from the depths of her Mind, helping her stabilize her self-awareness and prevent falling into the mental voids left by the Old World Nightmare Syndrome.
Yu Sheng watched curiously from the side, though he couldn’t grasp the principles, he noticed the changes occurring at the edge of the mirror Rift—some fragmented structures slowly merging into a whole, while within the Rift, in that distant scenery under red moonlight, a path seemed to gradually become clear.
But just when everything seemed to be going smoothly, Yu Sheng suddenly heard a teeth-grating squeak.
The sound came from the edge of the mirror Rift, and instantly the newly formed edge of the mirror was once again filled with cracks, the crimson moonlight flowing within them, quickly spreading over Red.
The mirror shattered, accompanied by surrounding space and Red’s body being immediately filled with fissures, soon followed by a bang as Red broke into pieces in mid-air.
But in the next second, she transformed into a swarm of black bats, escaping into flight around the Flying Carpet, attempting to reassemble into form several times but failing, leaving them swirling together in mid-air, emitting slightly dismayed sounds through air resonance:
"Failed again, the situation is just like before, the mirror’s resonance reaching the final step results in loss of control... it’s as if the space within the Rift is actively rejecting my entry."
"Never mind that now, are you okay, sis?" Erin stared wide-eyed at the chaotic swarm of bats before her, "Your whole body just shattered, and now you can’t seem to get back together..."
"It’s not a big problem," Red’s voice emerged from the bat swarm, "It’s just a sudden disintegration causing interference with the resonance, once I find a quiet place later, I can piece myself back together."
Erin: "... You vampires are seriously awesome, your way of surviving is so hardcore."
Yu Sheng glanced at the Rift not far away, frowning: "In the end, Red’s mirror Magic still can’t open this thing... or is there some special mechanism about it that we haven’t figured out?"
Erin joined Yu Sheng in pondering with a serious expression, suddenly thinking of something: "How about letting Apiao have a try?"
Yu Sheng furrowed his brow: "Freyia?"
As soon as he finished speaking, a flash of spiritual light sparked beside his head, from which Freyia emerged...
Miss Angel likely heard her name being called and darted out from the Soul Wilderness without knowing what to do, curiously glancing around, only to notice a huge swarm of bats frantically flying by the Flying Carpet...
Then her eyes lit up.
Very bright.
Honestly, it was the first time Yu Sheng saw a frantic expression from a swarm of bats, the moment Freyia turned her gaze, the swarm erupted into chaos, an explosive fluttering sound echoed as hundreds of bats flew feverishly, accompanied by Red’s screams echoing in the sky—
"Don’t come near me!"
Obviously, the last handshake with Freyia left a deep impression on the Vampire Lady.
Yet, as Erin had said, Freyia is Apiao; Apiao goes anywhere she wishes—she ignored everything around her, and the bat swarm’s fluttering excited her even more, and in the next moment, she dove fiercely like a thunderbolt.
Yu Sheng barely had time to intervene, watching a flash of white light before hearing a ripping sound...
Hundreds of bats emitted smoke and flew off into the distance, with those surviving instantly dashing beneath the Flying Carpet, some possibly stunned ones plopping onto the carpet, frantically darting under Hu Li’s tail.
Freyia missed her dive catching nothing and turned her head back—fortunately, this time, she was blocked.
Yu Sheng raised his hand to stop the Holy Light Kite, pointing towards the mirror Rift not far away under her confused gaze.
"I called you here for business," Yu Sheng said, "Do you see this Rift? Try to see if you can enter it, and if you can, leave a Door-opening coordinate on the other side for me."
Freyia quickly understood Yu Sheng’s meaning, her face blossoming in a 1080P smile (her resolution tends to be higher when she’s happy), then she turned and floated into mid-air.
Her giant pure white wings slowly unfolded behind her, with glorious Holy Light enveloping her, accompanied by a pleasing wind-chime-like spiritual energy hum, and Freyia lifted her flame-like greatsword as large as a door, and with a sudden acceleration and charging slash, she crashed toward the space Rift like a falling Meteor.
In the instant Miss Angel accelerated, Yu Sheng felt his spiritual intuition leap with a sudden bounce, a vague sense of something amiss crept into his heart, but it was too late to stop her.
The next second, Yu Sheng saw the light.
The entire forest witnessed this super flash that traversed the sky!
The "Living Saint" shaped by the Dark Angel’s power crashed its most formidable Holy Light Power into a Super Prism likewise formed by the Dark Angel’s power. Instantly, the magnificent stream of light overwhelmed the entire Mirror Rift, with storm-like Holy Light frantically layering and oscillating between the chaotic mirrors, and then violently exploded, illuminating the entire sky!
The Little Puppet, eyes wide open staring at the rift, screamed out: "Holy crap—"
Then two nebulous energy barriers enveloped the flying carpet’s surroundings, swiftly weakening the flood of Holy Light rushing head-on—a barrier raised by Lucrecia and another by Hu Li.
Luckily, the spread-out flood of Holy Light was merely residual waves without overly lethal damage. Despite the impressive momentum of the light flow beyond the energy barriers, the few seated on the flying carpet were unharmed, at most just startled.
... Perhaps not everyone was unaffected.
Yu Sheng watched as the bats that had previously hidden under the flying carpet soared back into chaos; nearly all were smoking, with a couple unable to fly dropping onto the carpet, flapping helplessly before opening their mouths and exhaling puffs of black smoke.
Yu Sheng figured the Vampire Lady might be muttering curses in her heart right now, but he heard nothing.
After all, vampires are elegant, so even if she has vulgar words, she might not utter them. Moreover, the blast of Holy Light was so overwhelming, she was likely too dazed to speak, unable to open her mouth for the time being.
The primary reason is likely the latter.
But now, Yu Sheng was most concerned about the situation of the rift.
Currently, the surrounding flood of Holy Light is slowly dissipating, and the sky’s turbulent clouds and expanding halos are gradually returning to calm. Yu Sheng looked up towards the direction of the rift and saw Freyia floating dazedly in front of the rift, her back seemingly a bit crestfallen.
She turned back, her face almost looking as pitiful as 480P resolution.
Behind her, the Mirror Rift remained unchanged, not even leaving a mark on the surface. However, its fractured edges now radiated a ring of white light, appearing as though it had gained an additional coating.
"Puppet Progenitor! Not even a mark left?! Erin was shocked, jumping up and shouting, "Even Apiao’s Light Cannon couldn’t solve this?!"
Yu Sheng also frowned tightly, hesitating for two or three seconds before speaking, "It’s definitely a mechanism issue, probably not a matter of values..."
Erin stared wide-eyed: "But the feature of Apiao being able to go wherever she wants is also a mechanism! She can leap directly from your thoughts to the real world and then from the real world directly to Valhalla. Could she really be blocked by a spatial barrier?"
Yu Sheng thought carefully and spoke somewhat uncertainly, "Could it be that the premise of her going wherever she wants is that I must have gone there? If I haven’t been somewhere, she can’t go either. After all, the ’Living Saint’ was essentially the key and sacrifice used by the Holy to activate the Gate of Eden, so I’ve long suspected that Freyia’s ’go wherever she wants’ trait might be leveraging my World Bridge authority..."
Erin was suddenly dumbfounded: "Eh...? Holy crap, this does seem to make some sense..."
Just then, a burst of phone ringing suddenly interrupted the conversation between Yu Sheng and the Little Puppet.
Yu Sheng picked up the phone, saw the caller was Baili Qing.
He wasn’t surprised at all, given how the flash of lightning just streaked across the sky and everyone in the forest likely saw it.
The call connected, and without any pleasantries, Baili Qing’s usual calm and slightly serious voice came through the receiver: "What happened just now?"
"Uh..." Yu Sheng was a bit embarrassed, "We were trying to open this rift using some unproven technical methods..."
Seeing that Yu Sheng seemed unharmed on this side, Baili Qing finally let out a sigh of relief in her tone, "Mm, are you guys okay?"
Yu Sheng thought for a moment and glanced down at the pile of still-smoking little bats on the flying carpet.
"Basically okay..."
Baili Qing seemed unaware of the subtlety in Yu Sheng’s tone and merely asked a few simple questions concerning the situation.
Yet just then, a sudden noise arose in the background on her side.
It appeared someone was urgently reporting something, and Yu Sheng vaguely heard words like "forest," "index fluctuation," "anomaly area."
"What’s happening?" he immediately asked.
Baili Qing was rapidly deploying some tasks over there, and nearly a minute passed before her response came through, "... Come back quickly, an entire transformation is occurring in the Forest Sea!"
"A transformation?"
"It might be related to your ’technical methods’ earlier—right now, countless anomalous space signals are appearing throughout the forest!"
