Chapter 852 - 851: The Fallen Moon
Chapter 852: Chapter 851: The Fallen Moon
The sounds of soil wriggling and rocks scraping echoed densely in the night, as bizarre, non-human shaped constructs appeared all around the block’s square. They emerged from the ground and the surfaces of nearby buildings, constantly converging under the influence of moonlight from the living lighthouse.
Then, that familiar whispering began to echo throughout the square, layered and interwoven—
"Kill the moon... Kill the moon..."
A large number of soil constructs surged towards the living lighthouse that was supporting the moonlight, starting to climb upwards along the tower. At the same time, the lighthouse immediately reacted.
A piercing steam whistle sounded from the direction of the giant hand atop the lighthouse, steam pipes attached to the tower hissed, and lethal high-temperature steam burst forth along the tower. The soil constructs close to the tower were blasted into fragments by the steam, while swirling white mist filled the sky above the square.
Following this, the tower began to shake even more violently, large pieces of its outer shell peeling off from the top. Some gears and pipe structures extended out from the massive "arms" as if exposing bones, beginning to blindly attack any moving targets within range.
Metal clashing and tearing roared in the night, the earth subtly trembling with the tower’s movements. The small moon floating atop the tower became increasingly brighter, its magnificent moonlight spilling over the entire district.
"Aren’t these things supposed to kill the moon?! Why are they attacking us?!"
Erin swung a frying pan and knocked down a dirt monster charging at her, jumping and yelling frantically. But the next second, a clump of construct suddenly emerged from the ground beside her, the little puppet exclaimed in shock, barely managing to roll away in an attempt to dodge, only to be struck by a fragment shot out from the lighthouse.
A dim shadow instantly flashed across the night, sharp knife gleams cut the monsters emerging near Erin into pieces. Luna’s figure briefly appeared in the night, executing an elegant and precise attack before silently retreating into the darkness.
The little puppet scrambled to get up from the ground, her arm and head bent at strange angles. She quickly ran behind Hu Li, muttering while resetting her joints, "Oh man, why didn’t I dodge that..."
"You think you’re invincible when you roll?!" Hu Li glanced at the little puppet and then rolled on the spot, transforming into a massive Nine-tailed Silver Fox. Her nine tails unfurled like a peacock’s display, firing a barrage sweeping across the square, "Da da da da..."
Dense ghostly blue flames arced across the darkness, a large number of soil monsters from the square’s edges tore into fragments under the Foxfire Barrage, their remnants transforming into a blazing firewall, carving a path in the battlefield.
Trapped on the opposite side of the square, the Deep Dive Team immediately seized the opportunity, swiftly beginning to transfer towards this side under Hu Li’s barrage cover.
However, the next second, the moonlight at the top of the lighthouse focused on them—the upper half of the living lighthouse suddenly bent down, the giant hands made of steam pipes and brick frames descended in a terrifying posture, the blood-colored moon cradled in its hands falling towards the square.
Where the moonlight touched, the fox fire rapidly dissipated, the ground and nearby buildings began to melt like wax, all the surrounding soil monsters seemed to go berserk, crazily attacking all nearby beings.
The Deep Dive Team certainly did not sit idle; they rapidly scattered their formation to dodge while raising their weapons to fiercely shoot at the falling small moon. Several accompanying Spiritual Servants floated in mid-air, spiritual sparks flashed on the surface of their mechanical magic balls, lightning bolts struck the monsters continuously converging around.
Yet the rapidly descending "moon" seemed completely unaffected by regular weaponry, heavy particle beams and collapse bombs creating ripples in the moonlight but unable to slow its descent.
But just then, a pure white light crossed the square.
Wings woven from holy light slashed through the night sky, a tall figure charged towards the falling moon, the Deep Dive Team saw the "Angel" with wings on her back blocking overhead, then the roar and flash violently erupted!
Freyia held her flaming giant sword firmly against the blood moon, pure energy burst from the sword, shockwaves formed into massive light rings, spreading from her as the center across the district.
Yet in this fierce confrontation between blood moon and holy light, the small moon continued its slow descent, its scarlet surface gradually spreading numerous fine lines, sticky substances like blood oozing out from within, starting to inversely stain the holy light around Freyia.
Freyia vigorously flapped her wings, another shockwave ring spread out from beside her, a series of rapid sharp spiritual sounds simultaneously resonated in the night.
Though unable to understand what she was saying, it must’ve been quite vulgar.
Meanwhile, Yu Sheng’s shout suddenly echoed in the night sky: "I’m coming!"
The Angel Miss gritting her teeth instantly turned her head to see Yu Sheng riding a flaming fox tail flying in mid-air.
Yu Sheng tightly gripped the blood-colored spear, darting straight toward the small moon still slowly descending.
In an instant, time seemed to slow its flow.
The wind roared into a prolonged, low muffled sound, the holy light shockwave ring spreading in the sky turned into a vague white curtain at the edges of his vision, Yu Sheng felt as if he and the blood-colored spear in his hand were one, while the blood-red small moon constantly enlarged before him until the red light filled most of his view.
Yu Sheng felt the surroundings gradually fall silent, and in this ultimate silence, he started to hear the heartbeat sound from within the small moon...
Thump... Thump...
He tightly gripped the Fox Tail fur beneath him, the Blood-colored Spear thrusting out without hesitation.
The tip of the spear seemed to pierce a mass of soft substance, barely feeling any resistance, and he pierced through the surface of the small moon. Almost simultaneously, a strange coldness surged back into his perception through the Blood-colored Spear.
Yet before that, Yu Sheng had quickly "understood" the object before him—in the span of a thousandth of a second, he "taught" this Blood Moon what death was.
The blood that overflowed from the surface of the Blood Moon instantly solidified and then began to rise in the scorching Holy Light, a deathly pale devoid of blood color rapidly spreading from the point where the Blood-colored Spear struck, across the Moon’s surface.
In just a few seconds, that bizarre Blood Moon was completely covered by pale, its slightly expanding and contracting surface solidified, taking on a rocky texture, and it remained suspended in the air for two or three seconds before finally plummeting to the ground.
This time, its fall was no longer lethal, and Freyia used the greatsword to slightly nudge it, causing the massive stone sphere to shift its trajectory and land safely in an empty area.
With a loud bang, the entire plaza seemed to tremble, the dead small moon crashing hard beside the lighthouse base, causing the whole sphere to shatter, countless fragments scattered all over like a smashed pale porcelain ball.
Among those collapsing rock fragments, the last tinge of red emerged, a core resembling a heart pulsating at the center of the broken "moon," it struggled for a few seconds before finally gradually losing its blood color, accompanied by a crisp "ding" as it fell to the ground.
The plaza fell silent, the surviving Deep Diving Team Members turned to look at the small moon dropped on the empty ground, while around them, the earth creatures that were attacking frenziedly just seconds ago also ceased their actions.
"Hey, they’re all not moving anymore..."
Erin widened her eyes to look around, hesitated for a moment before bravely approaching one of the nearby earth creatures, then gently tapped its knee with a frying pan—if this thing had a knee.
"Crack, crack..."
After a few soft noises, that twisted construct collapsed to the ground, directly becoming an unremarkable pile of mud and rock.
Lucrecia stepped forward, picked up a shard of stone from the ground, stared at it thoughtfully for a few seconds before pocketing it.
"These samples are worth analyzing," she said casually, "The surface appears to be ordinary rock, but the microstructure from when it was a living thing seems to remain inside."
Yu Sheng also landed from the air, holding the Blood-colored Spear, cautiously walking towards the pile of shattered debris on the open ground.
Though it’s called the "small" moon, this thing was nearly the size of a house, its descending debris piled up significantly in the plaza, appearing quite substantial.
Yu Sheng crossed over the lifeless gray stones, straight to the center of the wreckage.
He had seen the Moon’s "heart" drop in this place just now.
It was a strangely shaped, dark red stone entangled by pale thorns around its edges, roughly the size of a fist—compared to the shell the size of a house, the "Moon Heart" appeared rather small.
Pure white light descended from the sky, Freyia gently flapped her wings landing beside Yu Sheng, Miss Angel carrying the Flame Greatsword, tilted her head slightly to look at the dark red stone for a few seconds, suddenly revealing a radiant smile, holding up the greatsword and began to walk forward.
Yu Sheng instantly reacted, breaking into a cold sweat on his forehead: "Stop! Wait! This can’t be smashed!"
Freyia was halted just after two steps, turned to glance at Yu Sheng, revealing a 480P resolution look of grievance.
Yu Sheng, steeling himself, explained to this Angel whose Mind was equivalent to Erin’s: "Others can be smashed, this thing can’t, it’s a trophy, I find it useful..."
Freyia stared at Yu Sheng for several more seconds, noticed his firm attitude, finally puffed out her cheeks and nodded, then carrying her Flame Greatsword went aside, starting to smash the cold Moon fragments.
Slamming and kicking, full of spite.
Yu Sheng then stepped forward, cautiously poking the "Moon Heart" twice with the Blood-colored Spear, before bending down to pick it up.
Upon grasping it, he realized this thing was much lighter than he imagined, obviously appearing as a fist-sized stone, yet in hand it was as light as a feather.
"Interesting..."
