Chapter 843 - 842: Blood Moonlight
Chapter 843: Chapter 842: Blood Moonlight
The night was getting deeper.
Yu Sheng had spent almost half a day studying that strange blood-red spear. Even though this thing nearly took his second life (from excessive blood loss), he still couldn’t put it down. Although there were still many secrets within it that he couldn’t figure out, even as just a "weapon," it seemed quite useful to Yu Sheng.
Because this thing nicely supplemented his shortcomings in close combat—now he already had the blood needle launcher and blood grenade that the Evil Cultivator trio had concocted. He was not lacking in ranged options during fights, but he was missing a handy weapon for close combat. Before, the Tetanus Wand he welded himself was handy, but it couldn’t keep up with the times (not cool enough) and was becoming inadequate against increasingly sinister enemies, so the appearance of this blood-red spear was just perfect.
Very handy, capable of Spirit Communication, changes as one wishes, and can slay its lord—it perfectly matches the characteristics of a Divine Artifact.
The night outside was already deep. Yu Sheng sat on his bed in the bedroom, the blood-red spear floating not far from him, swaying back and forth under his control, occasionally transforming from spear form into a mass of liquid, wriggling in the air to form various shapes—even though the transformations were too abstract for Erin to recognize what they were supposed to be.
Several Little Puppets were in the bedroom, two were sprawled on the floor playing games, one was in a box playing with a smart watch, and two others sat on either side of the nightstand, watching Yu Sheng fiddle with the spear.
After holding it in for a while, Erin couldn’t bear it any longer, "I feel like boosting your close combat abilities is useless, you’re meant to get sent off anyway..."
Yu Sheng coughed awkwardly twice, "Cough, I’ve trained so much, considering myself as half a master..."
"And you still might not be able to beat me," Erin said with hands on hips, adding, "I mean when I’m holding a pan."
"Why don’t you just count all your nine regiments then?" Yu Sheng rolled his eyes.
Erin raised her chin even higher, "16 regiments!"
It took Yu Sheng two seconds to react to that number, then he yelled out in surprise, "...What?! How many?!"
"Well, haven’t I taken on a lot of jobs lately, everywhere needs manpower," A Little Puppet jumped from the nightstand onto the bed, quickly crawling beside Yu Sheng, "I just slightly increased production, and before I knew it, the production line overproduced. I only realized when the Puppet node below reported that the raw material depot was empty..."
"...Impressive."
"Hehe."
Yu Sheng’s face twitched as he looked at the Little Puppet playing dumb beside him, feeling that seeing Erin 40K might not be far off...
Then the Little Puppet suddenly let out a yawn so big it nearly made itself fall over backwards.
Yu Sheng then noticed it was almost 12 o’clock and hurriedly waved to put away the blood-red spear, urging Erin who was still gaming, "Time for bed, continue tomorrow—let those two BOSSes take a break, they’ve been rolling with you for two hours."
The two Little Puppets lying on the floor reluctantly exited the game, muttering all the while, "It’s not like you ever sleep anyway..."
Yu Sheng didn’t say anything, he just went around gathering all the Erins scattered in the room, dragging and carrying several Little Puppets toward the bathroom, to wash up himself and the Puppets.
After finally finishing everything, he turned off the lights and lay on the bed, darkness enveloping the room, all was silent.
He heard rustling noises.
Yu Sheng turned his head to see the blonde Little Puppet rolling and wriggling on the bed like a giant worm, looking inexplicably excited.
Yu Sheng frowned, "What are you fussing about, you were yawning non-stop earlier, why are you so energetic now?"
"I don’t know, I was really sleepy earlier, but splashed some water on my face and suddenly felt wide awake!"
"...Then roll around on the floor, I’m going to sleep."
"I’m not going, I’m the dignified Alice Puppet, I must roll on the bed—but I can go to a corner at the foot of the bed. Don’t kick me..."
Yu Sheng took a long yawn, the drowsiness was irresistibly surging up, Erin’s chatter soon turned into white noise in his ears, and he barely heard what the little thing was babbling about in the end, already sinking slowly into the Dream Realm as he turned over.
He didn’t know how long he slept, only felt that in the first half of the dream he could always feel a small body circling and nudging next to him, and later the dream world gradually became more and more blurry, he also felt colder and colder around him.
Cold?
Yu Sheng suddenly opened his eyes.
The cold night wind blew around, taking away the warmth of his body, underneath him came the icy, hard sensation, which seemed like stone and dirt.
The brief dizziness quickly faded, Yu Sheng cautiously perceiving the surroundings, carefully propelling himself upwards.
He found himself lying in what seemed like an abandoned house, deep in the night, barely able to make out the decayed, ruined furniture, and the walls and roof on the verge of collapsing.
Not far away, a window had completely fallen off, with dark red moonlight spilling into the room through the broken hole, leaving a patch of blood-colored glow among the dilapidated ruins.
Red moonlight?
Yu Sheng instantly frowned, suddenly realizing something. He immediately got up and went to the window, looking up at the sky.
He saw the night shrouding the land, clouds filling his vision, and a red moon hanging high in the clouds. Its dark red glow spread among the clouds, making the whole world seem enveloped in a faint blood hue.
Yu Sheng then shifted his gaze, looking towards the horizon, seeing the ground faintly curling at the edge of his vision, as if drawn by some force, looking towards the sky in a twisted posture.
Yu Sheng frowned, watching all this, his consciousness already clear, and he perceived he might have sunk into an eerie dreamscape—a "dreamscape" whose scenery was exactly the same as what he had seen in that mirror rift earlier.
...related to that blood-colored spear?
Is this merely a dreamscape? Or some kind of illusion? Or perhaps... has his consciousness truly been pulled into another space-time?
With his consciousness clear, Yu Sheng’s mind also spun quickly. His mind was filled with all sorts of guesses as he found the exit of the abandoned house—a dilapidated wooden door with several large holes, hanging crookedly on its hinges.
Yu Sheng went to push that door, and with a slight exertion, the whole door fell off, a loud noise sounding exceptionally piercing in the night.
Yu Sheng was startled by this commotion, instinctively tensing up, but the expected scenario of a bunch of monsters springing from the darkness did not occur—after the noise, the surroundings remained dead silent, under the boundless slight red night, the whole world was as silent as if it were dead.
Outside the dilapidated cabin lay a vast ruin, with houses almost reduced to crumbling walls as far as the eye could see. A broken cobblestone path ran through the center of the ruins, in the distance, one could vaguely see a half-collapsed, church-like large building. The jagged remains of its roof and outer walls pointed towards the sky, with some tattered flags possibly once flapping on the roof.
This place seemed to have been a small town, but it had evidently been abandoned for an unknown number of years.
Yu Sheng steadied himself, confirming that his spiritual intuition didn’t warn of danger, then cautiously moved into the open space.
He glanced around, finally deciding to head towards the direction of the church.
All around were crumbling ruins, most of the houses reduced to slanted, cracked building frames standing on the ground, accompanied only by his own footsteps and some hollow wind sounds.
But just as Yu Sheng was heading towards the church, slight noises suddenly came from the darkness, stopping him abruptly.
Yu Sheng immediately hid in the shadow of a nearby building, simultaneously extending his hand, threads of blood extending from his arm, swiftly forming into a blood-colored spear in his hand.
At the same time, he closely watched the direction of the sound—there was a pile of collapsed ruins not far away, where something suddenly moved among the broken bricks and rubble.
The next second, someone pushed open that pile of broken bricks, a blonde head emerged from under the ruins, cursing: "The hell... taking a nap and ended up buried by bricks... Yu Sheng’s sleepwalking again!"
Then that cursing figure seemed to sense something, suddenly looking towards Yu Sheng, the two of them locking eyes.
"Yu Sheng?"
"Erin?"
The blonde Alice Puppet finally fully emerged from the rubble, perhaps due to the dream world’s influence, she appeared at a normal human height as she emerged, though she looked dusty and her hair was a tangled mess from being buried under bricks.
Erin noticed this too, she tousled her hair a bit while brushing off the dust from her body as she approached, filled with curiosity: "What’s happening... another dream? What’s with this outfit?"
"Outfit? What out..." Yu Sheng instinctively responded, but then quickly noticed something, hurriedly looking down at himself.
He discovered he’d somehow changed clothes, wearing a hunter-like thick coat and sturdy leather armor underneath.
And in that brief moment of surprise, he glanced up to find Erin had also changed attire - that Gothic dress of hers had transformed into a women’s hunter coat, a dark brown trench coat with a faint red lining inside. She also had a slender sword at her waist, and a black leather-covered thick book.
"Yu Sheng, why are you looking at me like that?"
Yu Sheng silently raised his hand, pointing at Erin.
The puppet (167 cm) looked down, instantly exclaiming: "Wow! How did I change clothes too?!"
She then lifted her head, belatedly noticing their surroundings, particularly the dark red moon in the sky.
"Wait a minute... isn’t this the scenery we saw near that rift?"
"That’s right," Yu Sheng nodded, shaking the blood-colored spear in his hand, "I suspect... it might still be related to this thing."
