Chapter 766: Chapter 765: Anyone Connected with These People...
When Yu Sheng saw the big yellow dog sitting in the rest area, busy eating and drinking, he was completely bewildered. Even with his thinking capabilities, he couldn’t quite grasp what was going on. As soon as Erin exclaimed, he found himself caught up in the commotion, suspecting that the nephew might have joined the Beast Taming Sect...
But then he reconsidered, thinking that the Beast Taming Sect on Qianfeng Ling Mountain uses summoned beasts; he’s never heard of turning oneself into a summoned beast...
Then, a door beside the hall opened, interrupting Yu Sheng’s wild thoughts and Little Puppet’s exclamations.
Zheng Zhi walked out from inside, looking quite spirited, raised his hand to greet Yu Sheng: "Brother Yu! You’re here?"
"Nephew, you haven’t turned into a dog!?" Erin shouted in surprise.
Zheng Zhi visibly fumbled; in his brief moment of confusion, Yu Sheng saw the big yellow dog that was busy eating and drinking jump down from the chair, walk like a human on its hind legs, muttering as it approached: "An acquaintance? Could have said so earlier; I thought all this shouting was from someone off their rocker..."
Even the fox girl couldn’t hold her composure; her tails puffed up instantaneously like a Sword Tomb, grabbing Yu Sheng’s arm with her trembling ear tips: "Savior, this is really bizarre you know..."
Before she could finish speaking, the big yellow dog suddenly plopped to the ground, its image dissipating into the air—along with the cola and fries in its paws.
Yu Sheng stiffly looked towards Zheng Zhi, not yet speaking, but the latter smiled with some complexity and shook his head, explaining: "...It’s the big yellow dog I had when I was little; when I was seven, it was hit and killed by a passing motorcycle."
Yu Sheng and the others: "...?"
The group was stunned together for two or three seconds before Yu Sheng couldn’t help but ask: "So what is this now..."
Only to be interrupted again halfway through his question. Another door beside the rest area suddenly opened, and a motorcycle with a red exterior leisurely rode out.
No one was on it.
Yu Sheng: "..."
The motorcycle turned around, emitting the sound of the 1984 version of Optimus Prime: "I am the motorcycle that passed by back then."
"Oh my Puppet Progenitor!" Erin exclaimed as she slid off Yu Sheng, but was luckily caught mid-fall by him, hanging by the back of her neck mid-air, looking towards Zheng Zhi in shock, "Nephew, are you mastering a beast king or engineering... wasn’t your skill ’Great Grandma’s Slash’?"
Zheng Zhi awkwardly scratched his head and pointed next door: "Great Grandma is in the room next door; the tests are not finished yet..."
As soon as his voice dropped, Yu Sheng heard some muffled explosion sounds coming from the room, followed by several staff members in protective suits rushing out while shouting about equipment burning and test targets dispersing, with smoke billowing out of the room.
Clearly, Nephew’s Great Grandma had just exploded.
Yu Sheng silently turned his face to look at Baili Qing standing to the side.
Baili Qing took a gentle breath; Yu Sheng saw that dazed expression on her face for the first time, before she shook her head: "The situation is indeed a bit more complicated than I thought."
A few minutes later, Yu Sheng and the group sat in a rest room.
Zheng Zhi sat facing Yu Sheng, looking somewhat uneasy.
A melodious yet somewhat sorrowful tune echoed in the room.
After a few seconds, Zheng Zhi couldn’t hold back, turning to the old man playing the erhu in the corner of the room: "Second Grandpa, could you be quiet for a moment? We’re trying to discuss serious matters..."
The melodious and sorrowful tune stopped immediately, and the erhu-playing old man glared at Zheng Zhi angrily, tossed the erhu aside, turned around, and rode off on Big Yellow (unsure of when it reappeared) out of the room.
Zheng Zhi continued looking at the corner: "... You too, leave."
The erhu let out a hoarse unpleasant sound, which jumped up to ride the motorcycle and drove into the wall.
Yu Sheng watched this scene, feeling as if he had reached his life’s end, but then he thought he often feels this way, which made his mindset immediately calm down again. He just sighed: "So this is your Spiritual Energy Power? From what Erin described initially, I thought you were just materializing those spiritual bodies continually haunting you..."
"Actually, the situation now is similar to that, except the scope of spiritual bodies I ’summon’ seems a bit broad," Zheng Zhi scratched his head, "they say it might be my ’Deep Spiritual Vision’ causing issues, making my subconscious unable to distinguish between having or not having spiritual bodies on the spiritual vision level, with the result that all memorable objects from my memory are now being ’created’ by me."
Yu Sheng: "Created?"
Before Zheng Zhi could reply, Baili Qing explained on his behalf: "The things we saw just now are essentially tactile illusions created by spiritual energy—after all, in previous tests, there were situations where four identical illusions appeared simultaneously in a room; it couldn’t possibly be all genuine ’originals,’ they must be constructed using spiritual energy."
Honestly, after witnessing that series of scenes, Yu Sheng’s ability to comprehend was at its peak; he quickly understood and accepted whatever explanation Baili Qing offered.
"So what state is he in now? Completely uncontrollable?" Erin asked curiously.
"It’s not entirely uncontrollable," Zheng Zhi actively spoke about his situation, "When I first arrived here, there was a brief ’burst period.’ This hall was almost full at that time, and then a colleague here gave me an injection and taught me some fundamental self-control methods for a Spiritual Ability User. The surrounding illusions started to dissipate, and now the little that’s left can be retracted at any time. But sometimes, if I’m not careful, new ones still come out..."
He paused and added, "At the beginning, it was actually quite terrifying. Not only was my ’Summoning’ process uncontrollable, but the summoned things were too. Some of those illusions would explode upon touch, and some ran rampant everywhere. It took quite an effort to get them under control."
"Wow, you usually keep such a low profile, when you cause trouble, it’s big time," Yu Sheng couldn’t help but marvel, "I thought you were the most stable person among those I know..."
His words made everyone’s expressions a bit odd (except Baili Qing), and the hovering Baili Xue mumbled, "From our conscience, this guy’s Spiritual Vision is so high he could read the face of an Outer God. How stable is he usually?"
Erin laughed, "Your starting point, Yu Sheng, is completely off base..."
Yu Sheng nonchalantly picked her up and stuffed her into Hu Li’s tail – why does this little thing have to grow a mouth?
"The colleagues at the Spiritual Ability Management Department said I still need to be observed here for two days," Zheng Zhi continued speaking, "My situation is rare but actually relatively easy to control. The current chaos is mainly because I’ve never studied anything in this area, making it a case of a foundationless sudden Awakening for a Spiritual Ability User — supplementing the courses should resolve the issues."
Erin emerged from Hu Li’s tail again, "Then with your crooked Spiritual Ability, do the experts have any idea?"
Zheng Zhi: "...They said the Boundary Land is a place rich in talents and spirituality, and there’s some talk about Wutong Road. Once I mentioned I was guarding the door at the ’travel agency,’ they didn’t even bother to write a report."
Yu Sheng turned to look at Baili Qing, "...You guys really have some stereotypes here."
Baili Qing pretended not to hear.
Yu Sheng turned his gaze back to Zheng Zhi, "So why did you suddenly Awaken, have you found out the cause?"
"The direct cause was stimulation from a crisis environment, the long-term cause — I might have been exposed to too many mixed things."
Zheng Zhi honestly explained, starting to count on his fingers.
"My naturally high Spiritual Vision is one aspect, exposure to the Dark Angel’s power is another, Blood Transfer is a reason too, plus the occasional visit to Mr. Yun for the pills he concocts might have an impact. Prior chaos was from learning some reckless tactics at Qianfeng Ling Mountain, and recently Freyia might also have had an influence."
"Freyia’s influence?"
"She’s a high-intensity Spiritual Energy power consolidation, I’m a high-sensitivity spirituality reactor; you can imagine the effect when she sways in front of me..."
Erin & Yu Sheng: "...Oh my."
"But everything’s fine now, I guess I’ve been ’activated,’" Zheng Zhi’s outlook is quite optimistic, "After Awakening, Spiritual Ability Users will stabilize gradually once the burst period is over, which is a good thing – plus I’ll have a better grasp of self-defense in the future, in case I fall into Exotic Realm, I won’t be completely clueless."
Erin nodded repeatedly, "Indeed, your hand Tai Nao Iaijutsu is somewhat potent..."
Zheng Zhi covered his face, "...Could you stop mentioning that name?"
"Ahem," Yu Sheng had to cough twice, interrupting the chatter as it was diverging, "Let’s talk about the happenings in Mist City first. Zheng Zhi, do you remember what the monster fighting with the Knight looked like?"
"I remember, it’s lizard-like on the upper body, covered in scales. I reckon it’s about three meters tall, with a body as hard as stone."
"Draw it down, draw it down," Erin quickly climbed onto the table, "We’ll have Ironclad Expression check the data later."
Baili Qing: "I am not Ironclad Expression..."
Zheng Zhi then acknowledged and was about to turn around to find paper and pen, but as soon as he stood up, a small elderly lady suddenly emerged from the air, cheerfully handing him a sheet of paper.
Zheng Zhi was bewildered, "Tai Nao?! How did you appear again..."
Before he could finish speaking, the elderly lady spun on the spot and transformed into a set of false teeth flying into the ceiling.
Erin: "Honestly, big nephew, your spiritual skill’s most powerful aspect might not be its power, you get it..."
For a moment, Zheng Zhi didn’t know what to say, but Yu Sheng stood up and took that piece of paper that had fallen on the table.
Before acquiring this paper, he kind of had an expectation in his mind.
Sure enough, crudely drawn familiar scribble appeared on the crumpled paper, the black lines drawn as if by a child sketching a monster covered in scales.
On the flip side of the paper, a line of text was scrawled in jittery handwriting—
"...Soldiers fell from the city wall, the darkness outside transformed them into lizard-like appearances...they wander in the wild, still fulfilling the duty of expelling exiles..."
