Diary of Guarding Monster Girls
Chapter 1247 - 561: I Object!
Chapter 1247: Chapter 561: I Object!
Before Herbert could react to Sammi’s sudden request that could be called a self-recommendation for a pillow... No, a self-recommendation to be a servant, a sharp and somewhat exasperated female voice suddenly exploded.
"No!!!"
This crisp and urgent voice carried an undeniable resolve, instantly shattering the somewhat delicate atmosphere in front of the altar.
Herbert and Sammi both turned to look, only to see that Kreti, who had been pretending to nap in Herbert’s arms, had opened her eyes at some point.
"You!"
Kreti was staring at Sammi with a look that mixed shock, annoyance, and a hint of barely detectable panic.
How dare you?
I’m still here!
She even subconsciously struggled out of Herbert’s embrace, her entire posture shifting from lazy leaning to alert forward-leaning, like a cat whose territory had been invaded.
"Ah?"
Sammi was baffled by this sudden opposition, staring blankly at her fellow kin, not understanding why she was reacting so fiercely.
Although her request was a bit presumptuous, she was no slouch when it came to strength. A Legendary Peak assassin certainly had the value to be taken in.
To Sammi, seeking protection from a powerhouse was perfectly reasonable, especially in a place like Hell.
Not to mention, this Godslayer seemed to be... um, a bit lenient with her?
Why such a strong reaction from this fellow kin?
Herbert, on the other hand, had a knowing smile flash in his eyes, watching the "precarious" atmosphere, he chuckled to himself.
"Haha, acting all high and mighty in silence; now you’re in a hurry, aren’t you?"
He looked at Kreti’s puffed-up cheeks with interest, raised his eyebrows, and deliberately asked in a questioning tone:
"Hmm? What’s not okay? Kreti, are you opposing this?"
"Is there a special reason for it?"
Of course, he understood Kreti’s little thought process.
This tsundere Miss Devil probably developed some sort of "first come, first served" subtle possessiveness or, more accurately, a sense of crisis like "I haven’t officially climbed up yet, how dare you cut in line?"
It’s nothing, quite normal, you could say it’s human nature.
But the problem is—what identity do you intend to use to say this?
Is it as a prisoner in a cage? Or as a friend who knows and understands? Or some other identity?
"Rea...reason?"
Kreti was stumped by the question, snapping out of her excitement and realizing the awkwardness of the situation, her gaze becoming evasive.
Damn it!
How could I not hold back for a moment!
Her cheeks were slightly red, but seeing Herbert’s teasing gaze, she became angry and stubbornly said through gritted teeth, "There’s no reason! No means no!"
"You...you’re a Paladin, just taking an unknown Demon as a servant, what does that look like! Don’t you care about your reputation!"
This reason sounded grandiose, filled with thoughtful consideration for Herbert.
"Oh, reputation..."
Herbert held back his laughter, nodding seriously: "Yes, you have a point; if people knew about it, it indeed doesn’t look good."
"As a Holy Professional, secretly being a Fallen who associates with Demons, such rumors surely wouldn’t sound nice."
He shook his head in feigned regret, then suddenly shifted the topic and chuckled, "But...as long as no one finds out, there’s no problem, right?"
This explanation left Kreti speechless.
...Indeed.
As long as it’s not discovered, aren’t all problems solved?
And Sammi, hearing Kreti’s opposition, hurriedly explained to Herbert: "I-I can sign the strictest Soul Contract! I promise not to disclose any information about the Godslayer nor do anything that harms Your Excellency’s reputation!"
"I am very useful! I am willing to fight for you!"
"I am an assassin, good at stealth, scouting, assassination, theft... Although sometimes there might be accidents, the overall success rate is still high!"
Sammi, anxious to prove her value, was thinking about how to demonstrate her worth.
In fact, the fact that she managed to be healthy, unscathed, and fully-limbed despite her bad luck was the best proof of all.
"And, also, my bad luck might sometimes attract attention anyway..."
The more she spoke, the softer her voice became. The final "attract attention" was filled with self-abandonment, but the longing in her eyes remained undiminished.
"..."
Kreti pursed her lips, looking at Sammi’s humble yet persistent look, especially at what she deemed overly "prominent" assets, the nameless anger in her heart burned even stronger.
She hardly believed her fellow kin was such an innocent creature.
They were all Demons; who didn’t know what they are like?
What are you pretending to be all innocent here for?
She glared at Herbert fiercely and found that this guy was still watching amusedly as if saying, "Go on, I’m listening." What an irritating look.
"Tch, anyway, it’s just not okay!"
Kreti couldn’t find a more compelling reason and could only resort to being unreasonable, stomping her foot.
"Kreti~"
Herbert’s voice had a playful tone as he stepped closer, looking down into her evasive eyes, and asked:
"You have to give me a reason that can convince me, right? For example... why do you care so much about whether I take in another Demon?"
His gaze seemed to penetrate the heart, and Kreti felt as though her thoughts were utterly exposed—this guy was doing it on purpose, just to bully her!
