Diary of a Criminal Investigator

Chapter 1031: Identifying the Scene

  • Next Chapter

Li Jun confessed in complete detail that he had stabbed two people to death in his panic and later, fearing discovery, had poured gasoline and burned down the warehouse.

After burning down the warehouse, Li Jun escaped through the rear window of the warehouse.

This is why the surveillance cameras at the front of the warehouse did not capture Li Jun.

The subsequent matters are relatively straightforward; although Li Jun has confessed, he still needs to identify the scene.

Early the next morning, everyone including the Criminal Investigation Team from the police station, as well as personnel from the fire department, were all present.

The reason the firefighters were present was because they needed to produce a fire analysis report.

This is different from the general understanding that firefighters leave after putting out the fire.

After firefighter deployment and extinguishing of a fire, they all need to conduct an on-site fire analysis.

For example, the location of the fire, the time of the fire, the cause of the fire, etc.

During this process, they also need to analyze the firefighting measures, if there are any shortcomings, and how to improve them, etc. It is a relatively complex report.

During Li Jun’s identification of the scene, many people came to observe.

"How come it’s him?"

"Impossible, this Li Jun lives in our compound. I know him; he works in the railway section, seems like he’s a subcontractor there."

"Well, the subcontractor’s tech is quite good, and he’s pretty nice. I’ve heard he earns quite a lot each month and treats his wife very well. How could he do such a thing?"

"Haha, who can you blame? He’s not home every night, his wife couldn’t bear the loneliness, and this situation was bound to run away with someone sooner or later."

Many among the onlookers knew Li Jun and continued discussing the matter.

Lu Chuan could only shake his head after listening.

Last night during questioning, Li Jun went from being downcast initially to later becoming angrily fervent, then finally breaking down in tears.

It can be said that his inner transformation was truly complex.

According to Li Jun, he met his wife in an internet cafe, got married, and had a child. However, since he had to work away from home at night, the child wasn’t kept with them but sent back to their hometown.

Originally, Li Jun’s wife stayed at home with the child, and he worked outside. Later, because it wasn’t feasible for the couple to remain apart for long, they had no choice but to leave the child at home and both moved to Haizhou City.

Initially, Li Jun’s wife didn’t work but stayed at home.

Later, she couldn’t stand it anymore, felt particularly bored, and found a job as a hotel receptionist.

This position was introduced by someone Li Jun knew; he worked in the railway section and knew some people on the railway, so he found this job for her at a state-run hotel in front of the train station.

But Li Jun never thought that his wife, whom he held dear, would have an affair with a supermarket boss.

He had seen the supermarket boss many times; he wasn’t as handsome, didn’t earn as much, and frankly, was quite sleazy.

To be honest, Li Jun couldn’t understand why his wife would fool around with him.

If his wife had found someone wealthy or a handsome young man, he would have accepted it.

But his wife chose someone inferior to himself in every aspect.

Li Jun couldn’t understand why.

He couldn’t understand even more why when he caught them in the act his wife actually wanted to kill him.

"This is where I jumped in through the window and found them doing that inside."

Li Jun pointed to a window at the back of the warehouse. According to him, when he jumped in, the two people didn’t immediately notice because there were goods placed in between, so they didn’t realize.

"There were goods placed in the middle area. I walked around from the side and then confronted them face-to-face. The two seemed particularly terrified upon seeing me."

They were definitely terrified.

Especially the supermarket boss, who was almost scared to death, caught in an affair with someone’s wife, only to be confronted by her husband; how could that end well?

"The supermarket boss immediately knelt down and pleaded with me, saying he wouldn’t dare again and offered me money."

But at that time, Li Jun wouldn’t take any money.

He held a sharp knife, intending to kill the two of them.

Otherwise, Li Jun wouldn’t have come in through the window to avoid surveillance. If he didn’t have the intent to kill, he would have entered through the main door.

The thing Li Jun hadn’t anticipated was that the first to resist was his wife.

At the time, she said, "Why beg him? He’s holding a knife to kill us. The only way we survive is if we kill him first."

"Listening to my wife, the supermarket boss came to his senses. Then he followed my wife, grabbing something and coming at me together. The wound on my hand was caused by my wife hitting me."

Li Jun was so outraged he went mad, couldn’t believe that catching his wife in the act would result in them trying to kill him!

In his fury, Li Jun fiercely stabbed the supermarket boss in the belly with a knife.

"I hacked him four or five times, and then he collapsed to the ground. I didn’t know if he was dead because my wife was behind me hitting me with something."

Li Jun’s back was bruised and had visible injuries.

The forensic doctor had already examined and identified them.

However, the injuries on Li Jun’s back weren’t serious, just some soft tissue injuries.

"After stabbing the supermarket boss, I turned around, pushed her aside, knocked her over, and then rushed forward and stabbed her twice in the back."

While Li Jun described the murder process, nearby detectives were taking notes, recording the entire process.

The crime scene identification by suspects is an indispensable procedure regardless of how long after the crime occurred or how far away it is; this procedure is essential.

Lu Chuan listened carefully because he had meticulously investigated the entire scene post-crime; although the scene was burned, the footprints on the ground hadn’t been completely destroyed.

Based on the scattered footprints, it could be inferred that there had indeed been an intense conflict.

Footprints left in normal walking and those left during running and intense conflict are different.

From what Li Jun currently described, it matches the clues discovered in the crime scene investigation.

While Li Jun did the identification on site, the police also notified the victims’ families.

The male victim’s family was nearby, but the female victim’s family was not in Haizhou City.

The remaining matters involved desk work, needing to organize related documents, all physical evidence involved in the entire case, and Li Jun’s confession, all of which needed to be compiled for later prosecution.

The speed at which the case was solved was beyond everyone’s expectations.

It can only be said that Li Jun’s impulsive crime left too many flaws.
