Chapter 308: Wedding Date Moved Up
Chapter 308: Chapter 308: Wedding Date Moved Up
Yunzhou City, the City Lord’s Mansion.
A group of people swaggered into the mansion, and the guards didn’t dare to stop them.
The gold-robed man in the lead walked straight toward a certain area within the mansion, as if he were strolling through his own private garden.
Yun Cang received the report and hurried over.
"Second Prince, I was unaware of your visit to my Yun Mansion. To what do I owe this honor?"
Yun Cang called out to the gold-robed man. He realized the Second Prince was actually heading for the area where Yun Mengling lived.
The Second Prince frowned and looked at Yun Cang with some impatience.
"Ever since I met Miss Yun, all my other concubines have become completely bland and tasteless! I could not bear the loneliness any longer, so I came to see Miss Yun again today."
With that, the Second Prince continued toward Yun Mengling’s residence.
Yun Cang’s expression changed, and he quickly stepped forward to block him. "This is still the esteemed City Lord’s Mansion. Even with your noble status, Second Prince, it is not a place you can simply barge into at will."
"Yun Cang, I have proof that you’ve been colluding with a heavily wanted criminal from the Chaotic Alliance Domain. With a single word from me, I can have your entire ’esteemed City Lord’s Mansion’ massacred!"
The Second Prince snorted heavily, pushed aside the frozen Yun Cang, and strode away.
The two men beside the Second Prince tactfully stayed behind. One advised Yun Cang with a smile, "City Lord Yun, a single granddaughter versus the entire City Lord’s Mansion... surely you can weigh which is more important, can’t you?"
"Besides, it’s not like the Yun Family is getting the short end of the stick if she ends up with the Second Prince."
The other man also laughed. "Didn’t you hear what the Second Prince just said? All his other concubines are bland and tasteless! Only your Yun Mansion’s young lady has any flavor! When the time comes, I don’t think we need to point out who will be his favorite, do we?"
The two men exchanged a look and laughed.
Only Yun Cang couldn’t bring himself to laugh after hearing their words. Instead, his face was filled with bitterness and helplessness.
Because he knew Yun Mengling’s temperament better than anyone. ’This is tantamount to sending her to her death!’
...
Yun Mengling’s private courtyard was quiet and elegant.
Yun Mengling, who had been staring blankly while seated at a stone table, saw the Second Prince barge in. She immediately asked in an icy tone, "What are you doing here?"
"You see your prince, yet you do not bow?"
Seeing Yun Mengling’s attitude, the Flame in the Second Prince’s heart felt as if it had been doused with a basin of cold water. He let out a cold snort of displeasure.
Yun Mengling sneered. "Bowing to someone who knows no courtesy? What’s the difference between that and playing a zither for a cow?"
At these words, the Second Prince’s expression changed instantly, and he glared at Yun Mengling with fury in his eyes.
But the next moment, when he saw the stunningly beautiful face before him and a figure like that of a Celestial Immortal, his anger immediately dissipated by half.
"Interesting. You’re completely different from any woman I’ve ever met."
The Second Prince began to laugh. "All other women are willing to bow down and be my slaves, to be manipulated as I please. But you... you treat me as if I’m nothing."
"Could it be that you think I’m inferior to those who have no power, no influence, and no strength?"
At this, the Second Prince looked at Yun Mengling.
Yun Mengling’s voice was as cold as frost. "In my heart, there are many people you can’t compare to. There is one man in particular whom you could never hope to hold a candle to!"
A chill returned to the Second Prince’s face. When he saw Yun Mengling speak of that person, he noticed a ripple of tenderness in her otherwise icy gaze—something he had never seen from her before.
"So, there’s already someone in your heart!"
Rage began to burn in the Second Prince’s heart. ’The woman I’ve claimed for myself actually has another man in her heart? How can I possibly tolerate that?’
Yun Mengling started in alarm. Seeing the Second Prince stalking toward her, she backed away warily.
"If you dare touch me, I guarantee that one day, he will personally kill you! And that day is not far off!"
The icy threat reached the Second Prince’s ears, but instead of making him wary, it only made the ferocious look on his face more pronounced.
"I would love nothing more than for this man of yours to come and kill me, because there’s nothing I’d like more than to kill him!"
Before his voice had even faded, the Qi around the Second Prince suddenly erupted, forming two invisible giant hands that enveloped Yun Mengling.
Looking at the trapped Yun Mengling, the Second Prince sneered again. "And now, I’d like to see just how this man of yours is going to kill me!"
"So beautiful! Savoring you will surely be delicious!"
The Second Prince licked his lips, unable to wait, and walked over greedily.
Yun Mengling’s face was deathly pale. Before a Nascent Soul Transformation expert, she was utterly powerless to fight back.
The next moment, she took out a sharp blade she had prepared long ago, her eyes glaring at the Second Prince in fury.
"You want to kill me? Do you have what it takes?" the Second Prince said coldly.
"Even if I die, I will never let you defile me in the slightest!"
As her grief-stricken words fell, Yun Mengling plunged the blade in her hand straight toward her own heart.
The Second Prince’s face instantly became incredibly ugly. Seeing Yun Mengling’s determined expression, he understood. ’This woman would rather die than let me touch her!’
"Do you dare? If you die, the Yun Family will be of no use to me! At that point, I will definitely expose the Yun Family’s collusion with the wanted criminal from the Chaotic Alliance Domain and exterminate your entire clan!"
the Second Prince snarled through clenched teeth, threatening her.
Hearing this, Yun Mengling trembled, but the resolve in her eyes did not waver.
"Grandfather, ancestors of the Yun Family... Meng Ling has failed you!"
As her voice faded, the blade sank into her body. Bright red blood instantly stained her pristine clothes.
In truth, Yun Mengling didn’t want to die. She knew her life carried too many burdens—not just the entire Yun Mansion, but also Yi Xiaoyao and Little Hei, who were connected to her through the Soul Contract.
She was gambling that the Second Prince, having gone to such lengths to obtain her, would not be willing to let her die.
"Stop!"
Sure enough, the Second Prince immediately halted when he saw the blood pouring from Yun Mengling’s chest.
However, what he truly cared about was not Yun Mengling’s life.
"You’ll leave a scar! How can such a perfect body have any flaws, especially in such an important place!"
the Second Prince roared furiously.
"I’m very curious. What kind of man could drive you to such madness?"
"Since it’s like this, then I shall move the wedding date forward! You’d throw everything away for that man, but he probably doesn’t even dare to come and see you! When the time comes, you’ll realize just how foolish and worthless all of this was!"
With that, the Second Prince waved his hand, turned, and left in a huff.
In the mansion’s courtyard, Yun Cang saw the Second Prince returning in a rage, and his heart sank.
"At noon tomorrow, I will hold my grand wedding to Yun Mengling and announce it to the world!"
The Second Prince narrowed his eyes at Yun Cang and said coldly, "Old man, you’d better have a good talk with that granddaughter of yours. A moment ago, she showed no regard for the lives of your entire Yun Family!"
Yun Cang watched with a pale face as the Second Prince left, then he hurried into Yun Mengling’s courtyard.
"Meng Ling! What happened to you?"
Seeing Yun Mengling covered in blood, Yun Cang rushed forward to support her.
"Grandfather, I’m fine. It’s just a flesh wound," Yun Mengling said with a bitter expression.
Yun Cang shook his head and sighed deeply. "Meng Ling, why don’t you... for the sake of our Yun Family, just endure the grievance and marry the Second Prince? Consider it a plea from your grandfather."
"Grandfather! You..." The tears Yun Mengling had been holding back instantly streamed down her face. Her grandfather had never pleaded with anyone before, yet today he was pleading with her over this.
But Yun Mengling could understand. As the head of the family, the lives of the entire Yun Family rested on her shoulders. Even if Yun Cang was extremely unwilling, he had no other choice for the family’s sake.
Looking at Yun Mengling’s despairing eyes, Yun Cang felt a sharp pain in his heart.
"Meng Ling, don’t place your hopes on Yi Xiaoyao. I sent Yuncheng to inform Yi Xiaoyao only so that he would know of your helplessness and forgive you."
Yun Cang sighed. "How could that kid possibly contend with the Second Prince, who has been enfeoffed with twenty-one cities and holds real power in the Imperial Army Mansion?"
When Yun Mengling heard Yun Cang mention Yi Xiaoyao, her eyes brightened slightly. "Maybe... maybe Xiaoyao will really come and save me?"
"Ah, Meng Ling, don’t even think about it. Not only has the Second Prince moved the wedding to noon tomorrow, but even if Yuncheng gets the message to Yi Xiaoyao, there’s no way he could make it here in time from the Chaotic Alliance Domain."
Yun Cang added, "Besides, if he really came, wouldn’t he just be walking to his death? Is that the ending you want to see?"
