Devouring Soul Emperor
Chapter 562 - 562: Still a Little Short
"Taking advantage of my weakness!"
"Despicable!"
Chen Yi roared in anger.
Chu Qingyun, however, just sneered. "Despicable? Over a hundred of you from the Celestial Spirit Realm are ganging up to hunt a single person from the Earth Spirit Realm, and you're calling *me* despicable?"
With a single slash, a ball of furious thunder shot from his blade. Accompanied by a piercing CRACKLE, it rushed ferociously toward Chen Yi.
"Ancient Mirror Golden Spear!"
Facing a sword strike that touched upon the Intention Realm, Chen Yi didn't dare be careless. Gritting his teeth and enduring the pain of the Fire Poison, he forcibly summoned his Martial Soul.
The phantom image of a long spear, glinting with flecks of gold, rapidly materialized behind him.
A flash of light appeared in his hands, coalescing into a long spear.
"Go!"
Chen Yi thrust his spear. Its tip was instantly enveloped in a sharp, gray light, as if it could pierce through anything.
The Martial Soul Long Spear plunged precisely into the ball of thunder. With a flick of Chen Yi's wrist, the gray light on the spear's tip erupted, instantly tearing the thunder to shreds.
It turned out Chen Yi hadn't just reached the Qi Realm in his Claw Technique.
His skill in Spear Technique was in no way inferior to his Claw Technique!
However, after clashing head-on with another Thunder Sword, the Fire Poison in Chen Yi's body flared violently, nearly breaking through the suppression of his Primordial Power.
After shattering the Thunder Sword with his spear, Chen Yi scrambled to control his Primordial Power and stabilize the Fire Poison in his body.
At that moment, however, Chu Qingyun abruptly unleashed his Flame Martial Soul and Iron Wire Ten-Star Vine Martial Soul. He advanced, sword in hand, and began an all-out assault.
Chen Yi was instantly thrown into a precarious position.
He had to wield his spear, using his Spear Technique to resist Chu Qingyun's attacks. At the same time, he also had to divert a large portion of his focus and Primordial Power to suppress the Fire Poison inside him.
A single mistake on either front would be fatal!
They exchanged dozens of blows in rapid succession. Under the fierce assault of Chu Qingyun's Thunder Sword and Flame Vines, Chen Yi, a Level-Nine Martial Spirit, found himself completely overwhelmed.
Moreover, having seized the initiative, Chu Qingyun didn't just stick to using his Thunder Sword. He also looked for opportunities to unleash his Lightning Sword.
Every successful use of the Lightning Sword made Chen Yi's heart pound with terror.
With his Primordial Power as a Level-Nine Martial Spirit, he could barely defend against the Thunder Sword.
But once the Lightning Sword was unleashed, it could easily shatter his Primordial Power defenses. It could even sever the spear condensed from his Tier Four Martial Soul in a single strike!
That brilliant purple light had become Chen Yi's death knell.
Chu Qingyun successfully unleashed the Lightning Sword three times. On two of those occasions, he nearly cleaved Chen Yi in two, leaving long, bloody gashes on his body!
With this added worry, Chen Yi fell even further behind in his fight against Chu Qingyun.
Chu Qingyun relentlessly attacked. After a hundred moves, Chen Yi's condition finally took a turn for the worse.
He could no longer suppress the Fire Poison in his body.
Now, the whites of Chen Yi's eyes had turned crimson, and even his pupils were tinged with red.
Seeing this, Chu Qingyun seized the opportunity. He launched into another furious assault with his sword while his ten Flame Vines wove together, sealing off every possible path of retreat for Chen Yi.
Finally, after another brutal exchange, Chen Yi violently spat out a mouthful of blood.
The blood hit the ground, steaming and SIZZLING as if it were boiling.
After spitting out that blood, Chen Yi's aura instantly deflated. His previously flushed face turned deathly pale, drained of all color.
The Fire Poison had completely erupted within him, making it feel as if all the blood in his body was boiling!
"Die!"
"Lightning Sword!"
Chu Qingyun thrust his sword once more, and a blindingly brilliant purple light flared from the Thunder Shock Sword.
The Lightning Sword was incomparably sharp. Chen Yi no longer had any strength left to resist.
SHLUK.
The blade easily broke through the last of the Primordial Power he could muster and pierced his heart.
Chen Yi glared at Chu Qingyun, his eyes filled with intense indignation, before they quickly grew dim.
Three Level-Nine Martial Spirits hunting a single Level-Six Martial Spirit had resulted in their own annihilation. Two of them had even died directly at Chu Qingyun's hands.
This filled him with utter indignation!
But reality was reality. No amount of indignation could change a thing.
Chu Qingyun twisted his wrist, completely shredding what was left of Chen Yi's heart. He then placed a hand on Chen Yi's shoulder, unleashing his Devouring Power to consume the Primordial Power within the man's body.
This time, however, he did not devour Chen Yi's body.
The Fire Poison had already erupted completely within Chen Yi, mixing with his blood and flesh.
Chu Qingyun had no desire to get afflicted with Fire Poison himself just for a single Blood Pill.
With no resistance, the process of devouring the Primordial Power went smoothly.
After completely draining Chen Yi's Primordial Power, Chu Qingyun unleashed his Devouring Martial Soul and consumed both of their Martial Souls.
Afterward, Chu Qingyun collected the Storage Rings from both Chen Yi and Anfu. He got his bearings, made a quick calculation, and set off in pursuit of where he estimated Zheng Tianrong and the others might be.
Chen Yi and the others were dead, but Chu Qingyun's Qi Sea was still not quite full.
That meant his next targets were, naturally, Zheng Tianrong and his men.
As for the bodies of Chen Yi and Anfu, Chu Qingyun couldn't be bothered. With countless Molten Beasts rampaging through the Molten Rock District, he figured it wouldn't be long before one of them took care of the cleanup for him.
The darkest hour before dawn had nearly passed. On the distant horizon, the first faint glimmers of light were beginning to appear.
Chu Qingyun activated his Shadow Martial Soul. Aided by it and the Hidden Qi Technique, he did his best to avoid the Molten Beasts along his path as he hunted down Zheng Tianrong's group.
Along the way, he used his Devouring Power to absorb the energy from a little less than half a Blood Pill.
He did this for two reasons. First, to heal the minor internal injuries he had sustained during his fierce battle with Chen Yi.
And second, to replenish the Physical Strength he had expended over a long night of intense fighting.
As the dark red energy was absorbed by his tired and injured body, a warm and pleasant sensation spread through Chu Qingyun.
Even his stamina seemed to be partially restored.
Just as the sky began to lighten, Chu Qingyun arrived at the location he had calculated, based on the direction Zheng Tianrong's group had been heading and their approximate speed.
But after a thorough search of the area, he found no sign of them.
This was to be expected.
After all, both their direction and speed had been rough estimates on his part.
They could have changed direction, or they might have picked up their pace and already passed through.
Resigned, Chu Qingyun could only sigh. He changed his objective, deciding to hunt a few Molten Beasts to gather the last of the Primordial Liquid he needed.
