As Amon Koutarou’s cries echoed, Satou Kaede, who had been knocked unconscious, gradually woke up.

Upon waking, Satou Kaede felt a dull ache in the back of his neck and his vision was completely black. This was because the sewer was pitch dark, so Satou Kaede had no visual sense without a light source.

The only sense Satou Kaede could rely on was his hearing. He could clearly hear Amon Koutarou’s heartbroken cries.

"Koutarou!" Satou Kaede called out to Amon Koutarou.

Hearing Satou Kaede’s voice, Amon Koutarou was temporarily pulled out of his grief. Satou Kaede’s shout reminded him of Satou Kaede’s presence.

"Satou!! Where are you? Are you still alive?" Amon Koutarou responded to Satou Kaede with a heavy heart.

In a panic, Amon Koutarou picked up his flashlight and shone it in the direction of Satou Kaede’s voice.

"Still alive!" Satou Kaede exclaimed, then asked, "Are you alright?"

Satou Kaede also saw the flashlight beam flashing in the darkness. As soon as he finished speaking, Amon Koutarou’s flashlight beam landed on Satou Kaede’s face.

Seeing Satou Kaede in the darkness with the flashlight’s illumination, Amon Koutarou breathed a sigh of relief. At least the situation wasn’t the worst possible outcome.

"I’m fine! But Senior Mado has died in the line of duty!" Amon Koutarou had stopped crying and, with great sorrow, explained the general situation to Satou Kaede.

Hearing this, Satou Kaede’s heart sank, but he was more filled with confusion and bewilderment. He was confused as to why he hadn’t been killed, given that Mado had been murdered.

Logically, if Mado had been killed, the {Ghouls} should have dealt with him as well.

Satou Kaede walked towards the direction of Amon Koutarou’s flashlight beam. He reached Amon Koutarou and, with the flashlight’s illumination, quickly saw Mado in Amon Koutarou’s arms.

"I’m sorry, I couldn’t reach Senior Mado in time to help! By the time I arrived, Senior Mado had likely already been killed!" Satou Kaede said apologetically to Amon Koutarou.

"It’s not your fault!" Amon Koutarou did not blame Satou Kaede.

Afterward, Satou Kaede took out his phone from his coat and called the branch to inform them to come and pick them up. After all, he and Amon Koutarou couldn’t stay in this place indefinitely, nor could they carry Mado’s body back.

It wasn’t a matter of willingness, but rather practicality.
