Chapter 989: Chapter 472: Heroes Gather (Third Update)
The group participating in the Celestial Path Sect World Cup Grandmaster competition packed their things and got into the car, leaving the Blythe couple’s mansion.
The Blythe couple stood at the mansion’s yard gate, waving them goodbye.
Watching their joyful faces, whether the audience watching the live broadcast or those in the car, everyone was happy.
This was a simple sentiment of "good and evil are ultimately repaid in kind."
Lawrence Winters couldn’t help but smile.
She also waved to the couple from inside the car.
Her gaze met their faces, and Lawrence deliberately examined their features, first noticing the disappearance of the horizontal lines across the philtrum.
The absence of lines there indicated that they had descendants, meaning Alice Blythe would certainly survive and could even have children.
Lawrence’s smile widened.
She withdrew her gaze and opened her palm, wanting to see what Mrs. Blythe had placed in her hand.
What she saw was a handful of dark golden dust.
Though it seemed like rough dust, it felt smooth as if it didn’t exist when held.
She blinked and watched as the dark golden dust disappeared before her eyes.
Her palm was empty.
Lawrence stared in disbelief, closing her palm and rubbing it, confirming there was nothing.
Only a jade-white, delicate palm remained, with three clear lines visible, but no dark golden dust.
What did this signify?
She suddenly looked up, towards the Blythe couple outside the window.
But at that moment, the car had already started moving, and she only managed a final glance at their faces.
From that glance, she noticed their images were somewhat blurred, like those received on an old color television with poor signal.
In a mere instant, the car had driven far away, and with the quickly changing view, their appearances were no longer visible.
The group soon arrived at the airport, boarded the Stetford Family’s private plane, and flew back to New York together.
On the plane, Lawrence put on a sleep mask and fell into a weary sleep.
This time, she dreamt.
In the dream, she saw the Blythe couple again, though they didn’t see her.
They appeared older than now, hastily pushing open a door, speaking urgently with someone.
No matter how much she tried, she couldn’t hear their conversation, so she endeavored to draw closer.
Thus, following them along the corridor, arriving at an office door, two closed dark walnut doors, they held their breath outside, even watching in the dream, Lawrence felt tense.
After roughly five minutes, the couple finally entered.
Lawrence tried to follow inside but was bounced back by some unseen force.
Inside came a woman’s familiar voice: "...Oh? Are you two the only ones here? I felt there was someone outside."
She mumbled, but quickly said to the Blythe couple: "Take a seat. Did you come to see me about something?"
What followed was indistinct.
Lawrence struggled outside, even considering her Magic Artifact, the Flood Dragon Tendor Whip.
Upon thinking of it, she instantly had the black whip with gold threads in her hand.
The whip flashed with golden light, breaking the invisible barrier at the door, allowing her inside.
Knowing she was in a dream, where they shouldn’t see her, she acted somewhat recklessly.
Yet just as she entered, about to see who was speaking with the Blythe couple, the woman said: "...How did you get in? Get out!"
With the same flash of golden light, Lawrence felt a flick on her forehead.
She groaned and opened her eyes to darkness.
She groped around, removed the sleep mask, and found herself still on the plane.
The Daoist Wang, seated beside her, chuckled, "Lawrence, did you fall asleep? We’re about to arrive. Let’s rest at the hotel after getting there. Honestly, I didn’t sleep well yesterday, time to catch up on sleep when we return."
As he spoke, the plane was already landing.
Lawrence looked at New York, which she had left only days ago, and sighed softly.
She sat quietly for a moment before asking in a soft voice: "...Why did William have to go to such extreme lengths?"
The Daoist Wang snorted, "Humans die for wealth, birds die for food. Some people act more sinisterly, is there even a reason?"
True enough.
Lawrence shook her head. If the Blythe couple’s only daughter, Alice Blythe, wasn’t here, the nephew William with them would likely become their heir.
