Chapter 1060: Chapter 496: I Didn’t Do It, Stop Making Things Up (First Update, Please Vote Monthly!)
"Since your recollections have clearly cleared Mr. York of suspicion, may I ask if you really want to see Mr. York ’get what he deserves’ by seeking out our Celestial Path Sect? What exactly are you trying to do?"
Miss Tang somewhat uncomfortably lowered her head, revealing a swan-like jade white neck.
She gazed at the carpet blooming with intricate patterns on the floor, her voice gradually turning cold, but her statement remained firm yet flexible: "...This is your Celestial Path Sect’s issue. Since you’ve accepted my commission, you should follow my directive."
Unfortunately, this time she wasn’t facing Daoist Wang and Daoist Quan, but rather Lawrence Winters.
Lawrence Winters smiled slightly and said, "Is that so? But I don’t see it that way. Legal documents contain clauses related to matching rights and obligations, just because we accepted your commission, doesn’t mean we have to follow it."
"I believe when the organizing committee signed the commission agreement with you, there must have been some disclaimer clauses. For instance, if the information you provide is problematic, the commission can be nullified."
Lawrence Winters turned the tables, and Miss Tang finally began to look her in the eye.
She slowly raised her gaze, thoroughly examining Lawrence Winters, closed her eyes, and said, "Actually, the period surrounding my mother’s death is something I speculated later."
"Speculated? Including the asthma attack?"
Miss Tang was a bit embarrassed: "I was young at that time; it was my mother’s best friend who later told me. She said that my mother’s ex-boyfriend came to see her, they argued, and afterward my mother had an asthma attack, there was no one to help her, and that’s why she suffocated to death."
"Your mother’s best friend?"
"Yes, she passed away a few years ago too. I can give you her address." Miss Tang said as she stood up, intending to go upstairs to get her purse.
Lawrence Winters quickly waved her hand, "No need, since she’s deceased, it’s a dead end for evidence. What good is it to contact her relatives?"
"Dead end for evidence?!" Miss Tang seemed hurt, her attitude becoming hardened, "Lawrence Heavenly Master, what do you mean by that? You still don’t trust me?"
Lawrence Winters blinked, "I don’t distrust you."
Miss Tang let out a sigh of relief.
Lawrence Winters quickly added, "However, I haven’t trusted you either."
Miss Tang: "..."
She squinted her eyes, "What do you mean by that?"
"I haven’t accepted a commission from either side; as a competitor, my aim is to uncover the truth of this matter."
"What truth? The truth of how Mr. York murdered my mother?" Miss Tang’s eyes lit up, and her expression became eagerly hopeful.
Lawrence Winters wanted to roll her eyes, right now she felt that Mrs. Fang was a bit more reliable than Miss Tang...
Perhaps it was because Mrs. Fang was older, and Miss Tang was still a fearless young calf?
"No, Miss Tang, I’m merely trying to understand, given that Mr. York is the murderer of your mother in your heart, why are you still with him? Acting as his mistress? Tell me, did you do this to sacrifice yourself to find evidence for your mother’s death?"
Miss Tang’s pupils narrowed sharply, but she quickly returned to normal.
She slowly crossed her legs, shifted into a different sitting position, gradually raised one hand, lowered her gaze to examine her newly done nails, and let out a mocking laugh, "Act as Isaac York’s mistress? Who on earth told you that? That lunatic Anna Wright?"
Lawrence Winters: "..."
She gently yet resolutely shook her head, "Miss Tang, please don’t insult Mrs. Fang’s character. At least Mrs. Fang speaks in an orderly, logical manner with a complete chain of evidence; a lunatic could never accomplish such a task."
Miss Tang was infuriated; she sprang up from the sofa, "It seems you’ve already chosen sides with Anna Wright and Isaac York? Then why are you dealing with me at all?! You all should be kicked out!"
This was an attempt to drive them away.
Lawrence Winters calmly motioned Miss Tang to settle down with her hand, "Miss Tang, please don’t be rash. We’re here to discuss facts and prepare to solve the problem, not to take sides."
"We’re all adults here, can’t we just talk things over? Why do we have to act like kindergarteners, drawing lines for ’you play with her, I won’t play with you’?"
Miss Tang clasped her fists tightly, her entire body trembling.
She lifted her head, closed her eyes, her nose flaring slightly, and after a while, managed to calm herself down.
She dejectedly sat back down on the sofa, cradled her face in her hands, and choked, "...I just want justice for my mother, why is it so difficult?"
Lawrence Winters watched her grief-stricken demeanor, which seemed genuine, and felt a twinge of sympathy for her.
She patiently waited for her to finish crying, then handed her a tissue, saying, "Miss Tang, if you suspect your mother’s death had other causes, then we have grounds to help you. If it was merely an asthma attack with no one to help, then there’s really nothing that implicates Mr. York."
