Chapter 2115 Rotten Fight
Chapter 2115: Chapter 2115 Rotten Fight
— Kat —
Kat sped up, while Lily deliberately trailed behind. The sound of clashing steel was heard up head and Kat was determined to intervene in whatever fight was going on. She bounced between the rock walls to keep herself moving at top speed and not be tripped up by the uneven terrain or the awkward turning of the tunnels.
Kat shot out of an opening and into another moderately sized cavern. Unlike the previous one that was completely open, this one had a lot of stalagmites growing from the ground and the fight going on inside was more of a dance. A gruff looking man with a few cuts across his face and nicks in his armour weaved through the spikes as gracefully as he could manage. Something that seemed to be a constant struggle.
The monster he was fighting on the other hand, had no issues weaving through the stalagmites. It was closest to a worm in shape but with two bigger arms at the front. One was being used to stabilise itself against the rocks, while the second looked like a giant fantasy meat cleaver, almost larger then Kat was. The monster glooped around the rocks, having no issue with allowing parts of itself to just flow around them instead of trying to pretend to be a normal creature.
A clang rang out every time the man tried to deflect an attack from the monster. The two metal swords slammed together and were repelled with increasing speed but it looked like the man was on the losing end of these exchanges. Kat decided to intervene by throwing some demonic fire in the mix. Kat breathed out a long stream as she approached, trying to coat as much of the monster as she could, keeping her coverage wide but lacking in density.
The monster screamed, dozens of mouths ripping open across its undulating body to emit an almost paralysing scream. In fact, the man fighting it was completely stunned, forcing Kat to move over towards him to prevent a follow up attack. The monster seemed to watch her approach, its eyeless head following her movement before it started to puff up. Kat watched, fans ready to block whatever mess was coming from the monster…
Only for it to literally explode. Bits of its skin, muscle, and Kat’s demonic flame flying all over the place as Kat was forced to look away from the mess lest her face be covered in blood. By the time she glanced back all she managed to see was a much smaller monster diving away into one of the holes at the back of the room.
Kat glanced behind her at the man. He was panting while leaning against the wall. His sword still in hand but when he eventually raised his head to meet her gaze he quickly sheathed it and raised his hands up in surrender. “Thanks,” said the man. His voice was gravely and harsh, though that might just be from the workout. He was sweating all over and now Kat could see him better had quite a few more cuts then she’d originally thought.
“It’s fine,” said Kat, putting her own weapons away as she did so. The man nodded and held out a hand for a handshake. Something Kat automatically went to return. Only, just a moment before her hand made contact with the man’s palm it twisted and warped. A mouth split open along his palm and warm, trying to chomp down on Kat’s own.
Kat felt the world slow as she tried to move her hand away but the bracelet was slowing her down too much and the still forming mouth was much larger then the proceeding hand had been. There was no way she was getting her hand entirely free… so instead Kat turned up the fire. Barely a moment later purple demonic fire was spewing from her palm and coating the new mouth. It was too late to stop it clamping down on her wrist, for either party, but that didn’t mean Kat would walk away badly in the exchange.
Thick, twisted teeth bit into her flesh but the muscles stopped it hard. On the other side of things, her flames quickly froze the thing’s mouth and most of its arm as it screamed and reeled back. Kat didn’t hesitate. Her free hand came around and summoned her fans halfway through the motion. Kat used its worry to slice its head off immediately.
As she did so, the thing started to collapse. The body immediately broke down into goo… but the head, instead of doing so, grew little spider legs and booked it way from her. Kat wanted to follow up, but the stalagmites made it hard. Especially when the head spider thing managed to find a little gap and squeeze itself down there in a way no normal head with a skull would survive.
Kat growled as she smashed the frozen remains of the mouth into a nearby stalagmite, breaking it as well as the mouth thing. Kat winced at the pain. While the flesh had shattered cleanly and revealed what was going on… her arm was still a mess of hooked teeth sticking into her flesh at odd angles. Apparently they had some resistance for her fire, despite getting a dose of it face first. That certainly made it more likely the monster had demonic energy of its own.
Kat winced as she started to pull the teeth from her arm, causing a lot of extra damage as she did so. Not only were the teeth curled around and hooked somewhat, once they’d entered her skin they’d grew a bunch of sharp spines. It made taking them out without hurting someone nearly impossible. After the first few, Kat decided not to be an idiot about it and transformed into water.
Except the teeth vanished as well as everything else. Kat frowned and reformed herself, looking down at her arm. She was debating her next steps when Lily bonked her on the head lightly with a shadow bat. [Just pull your sleeve up and only transform your hand. Leave the bones if you have to. I know you can do it. Don’t be stupid about this.]
*Fine. It would’ve been just a bit of pain…*
[It would have been a fucking lot more than ’a bit’ Kat.]
Kat sighed but listened to her girlfriend. It took a few attempts but eventually she managed to turn everything except for her bones and the teeth into water. From there, using her other hand to pull the teeth out was easy. Though it was slightly worrying to see they were also leaking some sort of goop into her. Perhaps it was poison… or some sort of conversion attempt.
Regardless of the truth, Kat herself felt fine and there wasn’t any odd feeling once all of the teeth were removed. *Welp. That was an experience. Probably should’ve clued into the fact it was a setup though…*
[How were you meant to know? They seemed to be really going at it?]
*Right but counterpoint… the monster’s sword was huge. This means that the ’man’ really shouldn’t have been able to deflect the weapon the way he was. They were fighting like he was Rank 1 and the monster was Rank 2. Speed wise anyway… but then the sword was able to clash evenly with that giant cleaver thing.
There’s also the fact that the wounds the ’man’ had all over the place… just didn’t fit with the weapon. The ’sword’ the monster was using was too thick to cause any of them. Sure it had a sharp edge, but that same edge was nearly as thick as my fingers while the wounds, looking back at it, were more like rapier cuts.
Then there’s the fact that it could move so much better around the stalagmites. It could probably have just allowed an attack of two from the sword the ’man’ had in exchange for one proper hit to finish things. That’s assuming that it didn’t take things a step further and shapeshifted around the weapon taking no damage at all.*
Kat sighed as one final thing occurred to her. *The voice was also a bit strange. I thought it was exhaustion… but I wonder if he was capable of saying anything other than ’thanks’. Though… hang on. Why did my translation work on it if the monster didn’t understand the words? Did it actually say ’thanks’? Should we check what Tanisha heard? Also should we once again consider she might be a monster as well at this point?*
[Well we should probably get good descriptions of everyone. We both just assumed that the monster was fighting with one or more of the other people from her group… but if that’s actually a copy of someone it ate earlier then… it should be somewhat easy to tell? Still don’t think she’s a monster though.]
*Hmm… well alright. One more question though. Is there multiple of these things or are they like… parts of a hivemind working together with some central intelligence somewhere?*
[I’ve got no idea… but the two you just fought were definitely working together. So what’s scarier? The idea they can work together, or the idea that it’s just one and it knows EVERYTHING about what’s going on.]
