Chapter 1949 Guess Who 1987
Chapter 1949: Chapter 1949 Guess Who 1987
— Kat —
Kat focused back on her task. Up on the wall there was twenty-four faces up on the wall and according to the task, one of them was a murderer. It wasn’t the widest mix of faces, but considering the clues were meant to make things somewhat hard for you to work out the correct answer Kat supposed that was fine. Trapmaster had gone to the trouble of drawing them all. Though it was weird that they seemed to be human faces… or maybe dwarvish?
Next to the faces, were the hints. The first wasn’t even really a hint so much as an explanation of what was going on. ’Find the murderer from the list of suspects’.
The real clues were ’the killer is not red faced’ then the weirder ones… ’the killer is friends with a horse’ they ’get along with Tom, and Bill’ and apparently ’Does not get along with Peter, Anita, or Robert.’
Kat really wasn’t sure what that was supposed to even mean. The ’red faced’ was the easiest to tackle so Kat started there. It was easy at that point to discount, Anita, Bill, Philip, Robert, and Susan. They all had rather prominent blushing on their face so ignore that wasn’t too bad… but why not just say ’blushing’ then? Was it just to obscure things? Kat wasn’t sure, but her selection was fine for now.
Moving on to the next one set, they all seemed to go together. *What does it mean to be friends with, Tom, Bill, and a Horse?* Tom was a mostly bald man with a bit of black hair, a long face, small nose and mouth, accompanied by a large set of ears and glasses. On the other hand, Bill was a chubby looking man with ginger hair that was missing on top, brown eyes, rosy cheeks, large ears and similar eyes, mouth and nose. Though… looking at it again Kat wasn’t quite sure the noses matched. Though that might just be the face shape.
*What does it mean to ’be friends with’ in this context? And heck, why would you be friends with a horse?* Kat read over all the names once again, but was quite certain nobody was called ’horse’. There was a man called Bernard, with a big nose and ears, brown eyes and hair, and a fancy hat. Probably not relevant though, a St Bernard was a dog not a horse.
Kat’s eyes scanned everyone once again… and really nobody seemed to have names that referenced horses and even extending the definition to include ’pony tail’ hairstyles yielded nothing. The closest she had to that was Anita who was blonde with pig tails, blue eyes, rosy cheeks, and a small mouth and nose.
Kat scratched at her head, and moved onto the last ’clue’. It said that the killer didn’t get along with Peter, Anita, or Robert. Pausing, Kat realised that both the previous two lines DID help her eliminate people. If the killer is friends with, or not fond of, those individuals there was no way they could be said individuals.
Kat quickly went over the others. Anita she’d covered, and could be discounted. Robert was a frowning man, with red cheeks, blue eyes, a big nose, big ears, and brown hair. Peter on the other hand was a man with a big mouth, nose, ears, white hair and blue eyes. Kat didn’t really see anything that united the three at first. They were all from different ages, and Kat wasn’t sure WHY they were not friendly with the killer.
Still, that was a few more people eliminated… even if Robert, Bill and Anita were taken off the list for their red cheeks, Peter and Tom getting nocked off the list wasn’t nothing. Kat was now left with the same issue… what did it mean ’to be friends with’ in this context? The hints didn’t give any proper indication… except maybe the horse clue was meant to point her in the right direction?
*But what the heck does a horse have to do with the puzzle? I mean… I guess it has to mean SOMETHING and we eliminated hairstyles. What else could it be?*
[Just a suggestion, but perhaps it could be matching attributes?]
*What? How did you even get to that idea?*
[Well, in this case they’re all meant to be hints Kat. So we know that ’being friends with’ has to mean something more than just ’are they friendly’ because there’s nothing else in the room to indicate what it MEANS to be friends. As for the ’friends with a horse’ comment… well… the drawings are a bit oddly shaped and some are ’really long’ as in ’a long face’ just like a horse.]
*Hmm… ok I wasn’t really heading in that direction but I see what you mean.*
Taking Lily’s advice into account, Kat first eliminated the people without ’long’ faces… but it was surprisingly hard. The pictures were all quite stylised and it wasn’t entirely obvious which of them counted as ’long’. Still, she could eliminate a fair few people. Alex, Anne, Charles, and Charlie were easily eliminated. Bernard and Alfred… Kat was less sure so she was going to leave those two as they were for now.
Next row had Eric, Frnas, Herman, Maria and Max easily eliminated, with George, and David as maybes alongside Joe who definitely counted as having a long face. Lastly, Kat eliminated Sam from that last line. Which was not that much, but she didn’t have many people left on that line anyway. Just Paul, and Richard.
So, from just that Kat had Paul, Richard, Joe, George, David, Alfred and Bernard as her only remaining contestants. Looking at the ’friends with’ section for the Tom and Bill, Kat tried to work out what the obvious connection was. The fact they were bald stood out… but they also had the same, or nearly the same, ears, mouth and maybe nose.
Looking through the people remaining… basically all of them shared at least something with those two so it wasn’t as useful as Kat was hoping. If she just knew WHICH attribute was meant to be the one… whatever. Kat made a mental note of things before examining the last clue. With three people to ’match’ there would hopefully be less overlap.
Anita, Peter, and Robert. It was easy to eliminate traits here. Anita was a girl, but Robert was a guy so that wasn’t it. They all had completely different noses, and Anita had vastly different ears. Their hair didn’t match in colour or style. Robert was frowning, while the other two smiled… and none mad matching mouths. It was easy to break it down. They all had blue eyes, so that was the clue! It was also supremely unhelpful.
Kat had eliminated a whole ONE person from the list. The only blue eyed character not crossed off. Alfred. *Annoying. Though… I guess that does tell me that Tom and Bill’s eyes don’t matter… except I already knew that because they have DIFFERENT EYES ANYWAY.* Kat let out a sigh and went back to looking between the remaining characters trying to find which ones obviously stood out… and Bernard and George did. They both had hats, something neither Bill or Tom did. Though…
*Would that be too much of a stretch? How many attributes am I meant to take from those two? Matching the ears, nose and mouth would each be a massive pain. Though…*
Kat glanced through everyone once again and noted that Bernard and George only really matched the ears on both, and the nose on George. *Then again… do the ears really match? Hmmm… no everyone has at least slightly different ears I think, even if they’re similar. Dammit. It’s just… the eye thing is throwing me off now! The only difference was blue eyes, but here we have a dozen. Did I mess something else up? Like… do some of these not have ’long’ enough faces? Is it just the bald thing? What about the ’no hats’ part? Am I missing something? Wait… how many guesses do I have?*
“How many guessed do I have?” asked Kat out loud, hoping for a response. None appeared. *Ok… so no easy answer there. Let’s see… Goerge and Bernard… let’s just eliminate them. Their faces aren’t too long, they have hats, they don’t match enough. I think they’re the least likely to be the correct answer in this case.*
That left Kat with Joe, David, Paul and Robert. Robert was a bald man, with brown eyes a Moustache and a beard. David and Joe were blonde, though Joe had glasses and David had a beard. Paul had glasses as well, along with white hair and brown eyes. Kat paused, nobody had green eyes. It was either brown or blue. Interesting to note but a bit late.
*Ok so… let’s just make an attempt.* “Is it Paul?” asked Kat. A big x appeared over Paul’s face, and a second one appeared at the top of the board. Judging by the placement… she had three guesses. Annoying when she had four possible results. Kat looked over all the remaining people… and it really did seem like Richard. He had the most features in common, and the notable ’bald’ fact. Though… Herman and Sam were also bald but not included in the ’friend group’… or were they? Kat shook her head. No use second guessing herself now. “Is it Richard?”
The door opened, and Kat let out a long sigh. This had been complicated.
