Chapter 1947 More Traps of Course

Chapter 1947: Chapter 1947 More Traps of Course

— Lily —

The next few rooms were much simpler to pass through for Lily and Hedera. The first was a much longer room with a beam to walk across and a huge number of punching bags swinging back and forth, ready to knock you off. It wasn’t a completely straight shot, it had a few curves many of which were tight enough you could jump around them… if you were game enough.

Lily for her part simply tried to fly to the other side first. This was considered ’cheating’ and the room complained so Lily flew back and decided to try something else. First, she focused on removing her horns, a difficult task but one she knew to be possible. Once she was technically shorter, Lily half slid half crawled along the beam. The punching bags had enough clearance at the bottom for her to slide around without too much of an issue.

Hedera, not wanting to just wait for Lily to be done, was making her own attempt to move after Lily. It was difficult. The punching bags were all packed in tightly together, not really leaving space between them for you to rest. The fact they were all swinging with different timings made it harder. They weren’t just slightly offset, some swung twice or three times as fast as others meaning that the only places to stop were still dangerous and even just moving past some of the faster ones was an issue.

As evidence by the fact that the first time Hedera got to a corner one smacked her right in the face, sending her flying off the beam. Luckily, the Trapmaster wasn’t cruel about things. Potentially deadly traps sure, but not completely crazy or cruel. In this case, it was shown by the punching bags and the fact the room was filled about half of the way up with water.

Hedera spluttered as she struggled to push herself up to the surface. Having extra strength was nice, but it didn’t make treading water while in your amour easy exactly. Hedera was struggling a bit so Lily flew off the bench and fished her out with a shadow. “Thanks. I suppose I was more worried about the bags dealing damage to me then I was the water…”

“I didn’t say anything because I thought you’d be able to swim with armour on…” added Lily.

Hedera shook her head. “It’s not impossible but it’s much harder then you’d think. You’re right I could probably manage it but I wasn’t all that prepared for the fall and it would still be exhausting,” ʀᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛʀs ᴀᴛ NovєlFіre.net

Lily nodded along. “Well… seeing as that failed I have an idea that might work. Assuming my tactic doesn’t count as cheating.”

“Might as well share,” agreed Hedera with a shrug.

“Right… well… why not just shimmy along the edge? Hanging off the side and just move along?” asked Lily.

Hedera glanced back at the beam and down to her wet hands. “Wish you’d suggested it before I got dunked…”

“I wasn’t really thinking about it before. I thought you’d be able to get through,” admitted Lily.

Hedera shrugged. “The timing is hard. I’m sure I could do it eventually… but hanging from the side seems like a more certain thing. I can definitely hold myself up long enough… I think my hands getting slippery from sweat would be a bigger issue.”

“I can definitely help… but I’m not sure what would be considered cheating you know?” admitted Lily. “Like, I could probably put a shadow under your feet and just pull you along as I go… but I think we’d get called cheaters for that.”

Hedera nodded. “Yeah that’s probably too far… I guess catch me if I really need it. If we get called out for cheating we can deal with that without really losing much time.”

Lily nodded and then restarted her slide across the beam. It wasn’t particularly dangerous now she knew none of the punching bags could reach her and she’d had a bit of practice. While Lily was doing that, Hedera first stripped off her armour. No sense in carrying the extra weight. Once it was all secured away in her storage band she wiped her hands off a bit on her, still wet, pants to moderate success and then got started.

From there it was a slow, but easy thing to manage. Lily got to the end first of course, and was happy when no complaints started to ring out about her cheating. Hedera eventually got there as well. Lily transformed and was about to reach down and help Hedera up before pausing. “Do you want help for this last bit?”

“Nah,” said Hedera as she yanked herself up onto the platform and let out a long breath. “Thanks for thinking about it, but I’m not that heavy without armour and it was better to just be safe about it,”

Lily nodded and moved over to the door, with Hedera standing just behind her. The pair waited for about five seconds, and just when they were starting to be worried the door opened and Lily hopped back up onto Hedera, just in case.

In the next room, Lily was expecting it to be more puzzle-y but… nope. Instead, they were face to face with a tower and a sign on the side that said ’grab the key from the top to open the door’. It was just a big rock climbing wall with a bunch of water running down it. Lily sighed and transformed to say, “Ok so… we just do this again then?”

Hedera shrugged, “I guess so. We can have a bit of fun racing up though?”

“Sure,” agreed Lily, and off the two went.

— Kat —

Meanwhile, Kat was facing her own trials. After finally managing to free her hand she shuffled into the next room which seemed to be a ball pit. Kat glanced around for a clue as to what to do, when she found a big sign on the wall that read ’find the golden ball’. Kat glanced at the giant ball pit and sighed. “This is going to be ridiculous… but I can probably use my water body for it.”

Kat transformed and then split up into smaller segments so that she could more easily flow through the cracks in the balls. It reduced her overall viewing area, but it was a way to see ’through’ the mess of balls. Kat decided to spend a bit of extra demonic energy on making more water to get the whole thing done in under five minutes.

Each sphere of water Kat controlled simply dropped down, squeezed through all of the cracks until they hit the bottom, all the while examining the balls they passed along the way. When she finally found the gold one it was pretty easy. Not only was it gold in colour but it was clearly made of metal unlike everything else in the ball pit. Which meant simply playing around and throwing balls across the area probably would’ve found the thing without much trouble.

Still, ball found and exit to the room secured Kat reformed and moved on. She half expected some sort of ’cheating’ complaint but the door opened without issue. Inside the next room, Kat encountered something completely different. Gone was the crystal walls and shiny aesthetic. Instead, it looked like she’d entered into some old woodsman’s cabin. Kat turned around, and saw that she’d just walked in through the ’front door’ that was now shutting behind her.

Walking in carefully, Kat moved over to the table that had a note on it. The note said ’enter the basement to move on’. Which… was a little ominous. Taking in the room, there was a small kitchen shoved into the corner, the table Kat was standing at along with a few chairs. A staircase leading upstairs, a fireplace, and what might be the door to the basement on the side of the stairs.

Deciding not to overcomplicate things just yet Kat moved over to the stairs door and pulled it open. Kat was surprised when she simply could do so, and stepping inside showed her… a small closet under the stairs with a note on the wall and a few other bits and pieces laying around. The note read ’The basement is not here’. *Real helpful Trapmaster… real helpful.*

Kat stepped back out of the room and frowned. *I’m not really sure what they want from me here. Obviously there’s some sort of puzzle going on, perhaps involving just finding the door to the basement… but am I meant to be looking for clues? Do I check everything? Do I look for more notes? What exactly are they asking from me here?*
