Demons Beside You

Chapter 430 - Before Death

Chapter 430: Before Death

“Rasfa, it’s me.” Steven called Rasfa.

“Steven, you should be at the film site now, right? Usually when I call you at this time, you always bark my head off,” Rasfa teased. “How come you’re calling me today? If you want me to invest more money, don’t even think about it.”

“No, I just suddenly wanted to call you.”

“Steven, what’s going on?” Rasfa felt that Steven’s tone was a bit strange.

“Nothing.”

“Do you feel alright?”

“I’m fine,” Steven said offhandedly. “If… I’m saying if something happens to me and the movie isn’t finished, then that b*stard James will take over. Sometimes, he seems unreliable and likes to play games, but he’s been with me for so many years. He’s pretty skilled.”

“Steven, is something wrong?”

“I’m fine. I’m just saying whatever I thought of. Don’t overthink. I’m honestly fine. Okay, I’m hanging up.”

With that, Steven hung up. Rasfa was unsettled. Steven’s tone was obviously off today. It felt like he was giving his last words.

Worried, Rasfa dialed back, but Steven’s line was busy. The call couldn’t go through.

Thinking a bit more, Rasfa called Chen Zhao. “Chen, I just got Steven’s call. His tone sounded weird. Did he get some incurable disease?”

“Incurable disease? I gave him a checkup a few days ago. Other than being a bit weak because he played with too many girls, everything else was normal.”

“Then…what if he accidentally contracted AIDS while messing around?”

Chen Zhao inhaled sharply. “Are you sure that old *sshole isn’t joking with you?”

“I just called him, but I couldn’t get through.”

“Do you know where he is now?”

“Usually, he should be at the film site.” A lightbulb went off in Rasfa’s brain. “Oh, I’ll call James and ask.”

“Okay, let me know if you find out anything.”

“Got it.”

After hanging up, Rasfa immediately dialed James’ number.

“James, it’s Rasfa. Is Steven at the film site?”

“No, he hasn’t come yet today.”

“Hasn’t come? Do you know where he is?”

“No.”

“Has Steven seemed weird these days?”

“Weird? He seems to be a bit dispirited and got a new assistant,” James said.

“If you find him, have him call me immediately.”

“Okay, got it, Mr. Rasfa.”

Halifa Oliver was eating breakfast in the garden of a mansion. The maid beside her asked, “Mistress, would you like more coffee?”

“No,” Halifa said. “Give me the L.A. Daily and California Times.”

Just then, a black suit bodyguard walked over. “Boss, there’s a car outside. It’s been there the entire morning.”

“Oh? Is it paparazzi or someone else?”

“No… It seems to be… Steven.”

“What does that old thing want?” Halifa muttered to herself, frowning.

She and Steven had divorced more than 30 years ago. They stayed clear out of each other’s lives now.

They might not even see each other once per year. Every time they met, they were never able to talk peacefully.

They completely viewed each other as each other’s arch-nemeses.

Why did Steven come to her house today?

Didn’t he know how he would be humiliated after running to Halifa’s territory?

Steven had a talent for making every woman fall in love with him and then hate his guts.

“Bring him in,” Halifa said.

A short while later, Steven was brought in. When Halifa saw him, she realized that Steven looked especially frail today. It felt like he had one foot in the coffin already.

He didn’t have the confidence and spirit from when Halifa saw him in media. He didn’t look like the all-powerful king that he was at film sites.

Right now, he just looked like an old man.

“How come you look like this?” Halifa frowned and looked at Steven in disgust.

This old thing was annoying, but he always took care of his appearance. Halifa had never seen such a miserable Steven. She didn’t think Steven would ever be miserable either.

He had a bad temper, but his talent went without saying. Back then, it was also his talent that made Halifa fall head over heels for him.

As long as this guy was still alive, he would never be in a miserable state.

Steven sat down beside Halifa. “Nothing. I just suddenly wanted to see you.”

Halifa’s frown deepened. She almost suspected that this guy was knock-off. Steven never knew how to compromise or back down. If he did, they wouldn’t have had a falling out more than 20 years ago.

What was wrong today? Did the sun rise in the west?

Did this guy suddenly change his religion to Satanism?

“Okay, you saw me. You can leave now.”

“Yeah, bye.” Steven nodded. He stood up and turned to leave.

‘Wait…” Halifa finally realized that this guy was acting abnormally.

Usually, he would make a scene if he was kicked out. But today, he was actually leaving so peacefully.

“Are you sick?” Halifa’s heart clenched. There was an indescribably uncomfortable feeling.

She obviously hated Steven, but she didn’t want him to die. She cursed him to death countless times before, but she still wanted to see Steven live nicely.

“I’m fine. I’m great.”

“Bryant, bring Steven onto my car and go to the hospital.”

“Don’t touch me. Motherf*cker, you want to die? I’m gonna have someone stuff your head into a toilet!”

As soon as Bryant touched Steven, the man freaked out. He went back to that annoying and hateful b*stard.

“Ignore his threats,” Halifa said. “Take him into the car. I want to know what’s wrong with him.”

Actually, Halifa was just as stubborn and insistent as Steven. This was why they’d broken up in the end. Neither of them knew to take a step back.
