Demons Among Gods

230 – That’s how a woman should be!

  • Next Chapter

At this moment, Lyria backflipped before Lucretia could get close to her, and at the same time dodged a Bone Arrow from a Rank 2 necromancer with a twist in midair.

While backflipping and dodging, Lyria did a full rotation in midair like a tornado. With immense power, she kicked a skeleton's head, which smoothly got lopped off its body and launched straight toward the charging Rank 3, Lucretia.

"Tch," Lucretia clicked her tongue in annoyance. She swiftly destroyed the skull with a punch; however, while doing so, she totally missed that while kicking the skull toward her, Lyria had also hurled her red dagger straight at Vara with incredible speed and power.

Lyria had activated the rune in her Sun dagger while throwing it. Since she was not using her abilities and was heavily limiting her stats, she was obviously at a disadvantage against higher-rank Mana Wielders. Activating this rune not only generated an outburst of flame upon impact, it also increased the penetration power of the dagger immensely.

By the time the remaining necromancers noticed the dagger shooting toward Vara, it was already too late to scream out a warning or do anything, as the weapon was just that fast.

Lucretia's eyes also widened in shock, as she only noticed the dagger when she was destroying the skull.

Vara’s focus was entirely on the scroll. She was just a moment away from finishing the casting process.

‘As soon as the spell is ready, I only need to pinpoint the masked woman and boom, that woman will turn into countless pieces of bone and flesh,’ Vara thought excitedly.

Just as she was about to complete the spell, a sharp object suddenly penetrated right through the scroll and even through her palm, destroying all her hard work and burning the scroll to ashes. Before Vara could even grasp what had just happened, the dagger swiftly dug deep inside her chest, penetrating and burning away her heart and every other organ nearby.

Vara was shocked into stillness.

She slowly raised her pale face as she realized just what had occurred. With her quivering dark pupils and blood flowing out of her lips, she saw everyone was staring at her with wide eyes; no, they were staring directly at her chest.

She followed everyone's gaze, and with despair and disbelief, she saw the beautifully designed hilt of a dagger poking out of her chest.

Vara opened her mouth and coughed out a massive amount of blood as she slowly fell backward, her eyes filled with stupefaction.

She refused to believe she was going to die! She never even thought it was possible, as she believed everyone else would die and she was the true protagonist of the world!

With a face devoid of any blood and wide, horrified eyes, Vara landed on the ground. By then, she had already died.

"VARA!!!!" All three remaining necromancers screamed in horror and utter disbelief.

They never thought even Vara would die; after all, she was a very powerful Rank 3 Mage. She was their leader as well as someone with a great aspiration for greatness; even their master, Selene Boneweaver, had great faith in Vara reaching Master Rank one day.

"Die, bitch!" Lucretia charged toward Lyria with deep-seated hatred and rage.

The other two necromancers also followed behind, their eyes filled with wrath and resentment.

"Watch out!" Elianor's brother, Jaylen, cried out in panic. He couldn’t do anything other than yell, as the speed of a Rank 3 was far beyond him. He was originally just a lazy guard and not someone who could fight very well.

Elianor clenched her fist. She was also anxious, but she didn't voice it like Jaylen. She had a strange expectation and belief that Lyria, as Eric's girlfriend, would definitely have a way out of this!

Though even she couldn’t think of anything Lyria could do to survive against a Rank 3's charge while just being at Rank 1.

This was a huge difference in stats, a distance spanning an entire major Rank in between! And Lyria had also lost a dagger. With the speed the Rank 3 necromancer was charging toward Lyria, it was the same as a meteoroid plummeting toward a mortal; it was hopeless to even dodge.

Lyria noticed that Lucretia had almost arrived in front of her, so she swiftly moved her left leg far behind her and also shifted her body slightly backward, almost as if she was panicked and scared. However, her right foot remained exactly where it was.

Lucretia thought that this masked woman was finally terrified, and so she regained her confidence.

She was a Mage; though her stats were high and she could easily bully and force Rank 2s under her, she was still not a pugilist or fist fighter.

Even so, she was still confident that she could punch well enough and could kill up to a mid-stage Rank 2 Warrior with just her bare fists. She only needed to punch the masked woman once and the battle would end right there. Even if she missed punching, just with her own momentum and her own constitution behind the charge, she could severely injure any Rank 1 with a direct impact.

Just as Lucretia was about to collide with Lyria, Lyria suddenly ducked down. It was so smooth, quick, and fluid that to the charging Lucretia, it almost seemed that Lyria had suddenly vanished from her sight.

Of course, Lucretia still caught Lyria's action and her eyes followed her downward. As soon as she noticed the scene in front of her, her heart shuddered with utter dread. She cried crazily inside her mind, ‘S-SOMEONE PLEASE STOP ME!’

But it was too late, as Lucretia's own momentum was too fast for her or anyone in the current area to stop her, especially when she was just an inch away from making contact.

The moment Lyria ducked down, her entire posture became extremely strange for everyone present. They couldn't make any sense of it, as they had never seen such a weird posture, especially during an ongoing fight.

Lyria's arms were stretched forward like she was offering something to the one in front of her, like a knight offering his sword to his king; however, the 'offering' here was the tip of Lyria's sharp dagger.

Both her arms stretched forward and she tightly gripped the hilt, with the dagger pointing straight toward the approaching Lucretia.

Lyria’s entire body was bent at a very low angle of a mere 20 or 30 degrees to the ground. Her right knee bent and her left leg stretched far behind for both balance and support.

Lyria was currently looking like a pole sticking out of the ground at an extremely dangerous angle. If a bull was charging straight toward it and challenged the sharp point with its blunt head, the pole didn't need to do anything; the bull would just kill itself.

Lyria had switched to that position at the last moment, and by the time Lucretia even realized what it was, with her own speed, it was impossible for her to dodge.

PUCH!

Lucretia could only helplessly widen her eyes in horror as she was stabbed right in the center of her chest. With her own momentum, she continued moving forward while the dagger continued cutting her from her chest to her belly and below.

Due to the friction while being stabbed, Lucretia's speed reduced somewhat, but it was still massive nonetheless. Lyria put a little strength into her arms to raise the dagger higher; it was similar to pushing the 'offering' higher for the other person to receive it. Along with the motion, Lucretia’s body also rose much higher, leaving the ground and avoiding hitting Lyria.

Lyria had no interest in colliding with Lucretia’s body directly; otherwise, her own high constitution stat would be exposed. After all, she couldn’t reduce or limit her constitution stat to a normal late-stage Rank 1 Warrior, unlike with her other two physical stats.

While raising Lucretia above her, Lyria softly murmured, calmly gazing at the ground beneath. "Don't underestimate Grandma’s knowledge. Moreover, don't underestimate what we had to go through for over half a decade. It was hell!" Her voice was intended only for Lucretia to hear, but in truth, she was just grumbling to herself.

While Lyria was speaking, she had already let go of her Moon dagger. Lucretia flew over along with the dagger still stuck to her abdomen. Lucretia’s internal organs and blood had been frozen, and she died excruciatingly. Although it was just a short contact, with how wide Lucretia's red eyes were, anyone could imagine her pain before she died.

Lucretia’s body rolled on the ground for a while and then collided with the wall further away. Thankfully, the thick stone wall didn't crumble.

Lyria calmly stood up straight from her almost flat-lying posture.

Everyone's breath was completely blown away by this abnormal stunt. Even until now, no one had figured out just what or how that happened.

Did the masked woman kill Lucretia? Or did Lucretia kill herself? Lyria hadn’t even moved and was just in a weird posture.

None of them had ever seen such a weird fighting style; no, no one had even thought it was possible.

They only understood that an early-stage Rank 3 was lunging at a late-stage Rank 1. Even an idiot could see that the Rank 1 would die, even just from the collision, as a Rank 3's constitution and strength were not something any Rank 1 could handle. It was the same as a giant rock or meteoroid shooting toward a mortal horizontally. The mortal would be eradicated without a doubt and there was nothing they could do; they couldn’t even dodge due to the speed at which the rock was coming. Yet what happened was the rock was penetrated and then flew right over the mortal's head while not injuring the mortal at all. The mortal wasn’t even pushed backward and stood exactly where she was.

This was utterly incomprehensible, way beyond anyone's understanding and logical expectation for such an obviously anticipated outcome.

For a moment, everyone's brain went haywire; it was like the laws of the world had suddenly twisted and no longer worked as they used to.

Even Elianor was completely stupefied. She saw everything, but nothing made sense to her. It would require some time for her to comprehend just what had occurred and how it was even possible.

For now, she put those thoughts behind her and was still worried for Lyria. Although the fight was mostly over, there were still two more enemies and Lyria had lost both her daggers; just how would she fight now?

While Elianor was thinking deeply, unknown to her, her brother beside her had tragically suffered similar fate as her.

Jaylen’s heart was pounding like never before. Without any doubt, he understood that he had completely and thoroughly fallen in love with this wild woman!

That’s right! That's how a woman should be! To solve problems that even he could only be helpless in front of. A woman like this was the true goddess of everyone's heart! Beautiful, strong, capable, and able to overcome impossible-to-solve problems calmly and gracefully.

Everything in front of him had suddenly faded, and only Lyria's graceful figure and elegance were left in his eyes. He knew he had utterly fallen, and probably no other woman in the entire world would ever make him feel even close to this.

Unfortunately, or perhaps it was due to being the brother of Elianor, his fate was also sealed with the same heart-shattering grief, which he still hadn't realized yet.
