Chapter 72: A Far Worse Fate.

She landed a few meters away.

’She might be faster than me, but her fighting form is rather basic.’ Her way of fighting reminded him of the nightmare rabbits, while completely different things.

Both fought aggressively, only retreating when at a disadvantage and charging ahead when they believed they had an opening.

Osborne and the maid charged at each other.

She began exchanging blows, yet strangely, Osborne began evading most of her attacks, leaving the maid at a loss.

’That constant killing intent of hers makes her no different from an open book...’ Osborne groaned as he blocked a hit that numbed his hands.

He wasn’t a stranger to killing intent. Matched with his heightened senses, he found it less tasking to fight her, moreover.

Osborne’s eyes weren’t for show either.

As they fought, he continued trying to read her moves, counteracting against her again and again. Even when his attempts seemed futile, he still didn’t give up.

"..?!!" The maid was caught off guard when Osborne grabbed both of her hands out of the blue.

’Flame Touch!’

"ARRGHH!!!" The maid let out a shrill cry as his hands began to burn hers.

She gnashed her fangs, livid, kicking Osborne away with both legs.

Osborne coughed up some blood from the ruthless attack.

But he quickly planted his feet firmly on the ground, slowing his body to a halt.

The maid stared at her burnt hands, completely unrecognisable.

Her healing factor began coming into play once more, and yet, the fire damage made it far slower than normal.

At this rate, it would take a considerable amount of time before her injuries healed.

"You wretched mongrel!!! I’ll kill you!!!" Completely vexed, she charged at Osborne.

Her fangs growing larger to match a true wolf, her beautiful blue eyes turning as fierce as a wild beast’s.

She delivered a twisting kick on arrival. Osborne raised his hands to block the hit.

"..?!!!"

He groaned beneath the force of the blow, cracking sounds coming from his hand.

The kick sent him skidding away.

Osborne came to a stop again, panting, his right arm bruised. Yet a smile remained on his face.

The maid looked even more livid now, the smell of burnt flesh filling the space.

The leg she just used to kick him away now had a visible charred palm print on it.

While Osborne blocked the hit with his right, he took that split moment to use Flame Touch with his left.

She did manage to deal some damage, but at the cost of taking some herself.

"What’s the matter? Scared you’ll get burned again? I thought you valued your lord highly. Don’t tell me you’re thinking of leaving without finishing his order."

"Pretty unprofessional, wouldn’t you agree?"

"Shut your trap, mongrel!!" The maid yelled, but it was obvious Osborne had hit a mark.

"You know what? I’m getting bored, so why don’t I give you a handicap?" Osborne said smugly.

"Go ahead and transform. Use that beastly form of yours to its fullest extent."

"What..." The maid’s expression darkened.

"I mean, why not? It’s probably the only way you can ever hope of beating me."

The maid’s body began to tremble. Suddenly her bones began to crack as her skin gradually peeled off, slowly revealing a brown furry coat underneath.

"You arrogant mongrel!! Your pride will be your end! I’ll be sure to remove a hindrance like yourself from my lord’s path—!" She said, only for her words to freeze in her throat when Osborne exploded forth, rushing towards her.

"You bastard!!!" The maid hurriedly began cancelling her transformation, even at the cost of the unbearable pain. To think she fell for such an obvious ploy.

"What?!" Mid-retreat, countless roots sprouted from the ground, each extremely thick, binding her body in an instant.

"I can’t believe you fell for it." Osborne said in a cold tone.

Flame Touch!

’Full power!’ He pushed his spell to the limit of his control. Even before his attack landed, the maid could already feel the heat from his hand.

Osborne shaped his hand like a sword.

The maid didn’t have enough time to break free of the bindings.

All she could do was look at him with hatred. To think she was tricked by such a person.

PUTUI~!

"GUAH!!" She coughed up a huge mouthful of blood the moment his hand pierced right through her, coming out the other end.

The maid’s body trembled, her intense gaze fixed on him.

"Don’t think this is the end. I’ll be waiting for you. My lady surely won’t take this lying down."

"And who says you’re going anywhere?" Osborne said coldly.

"Killing you would be too much of a mercy." The maid, already weakened, couldn’t resist as she was pulled into the sub-space.

---

"Where is this place?!" She gasped in fright.

"You’ll be staying here for a while. Better get used to it." The maid turned around to see Osborne standing behind her.

She lunged at him instinctively.

"W-What is this?!" Only for her body not to budge. Her gaze whipped downward to see that her feet had already been petrified.

Her heart began to race as the petrification continued to spread more and more.

"No!!! Stop this!!!" She reached out to Osborne in panic, trying to claw at him, but even while he was only an inch away, it was to no avail.

He continued to watch her with a cold gaze.

Up till she completely turned to stone.

"Don’t you worry. I’ll be sure to bring her here as well." Osborne muttered before vanishing.

As for the person he was referring to, it was none other than Vanessa, of course.

"He won...?" Deeper within the tunnels, Vanessa stood with her hands crossed in front of her chest, taken aback when her connection with her beta suddenly vanished.

’How strong are they to defeat a beta so quickly? Don’t tell me they have a four-star aura user on their side.’ Vanessa finally began to feel agitated.

While a three-star aura user could defeat a werewolf of the beta’s calibre, it would’ve realistically taken far more time than this.

Rather than believing Osborne was the one to do it, she instead thought it must’ve been someone within their group.

Well, it couldn’t be helped, especially after how Osborne had acted up till now.

If only she knew the one behind it was in fact the person she found the least threatening, who knew how she would react.
