Chapter 68: Why Won’t You Leave Me Be?!!!

"Hey, what about me?!" Vlaric said. He was already aware of her incredible speed, since she had easily apprehended him. He doubted he could keep up with her.

"Bring him along as well."

"As you wish, my lord." Clawdeth nodded before looking at Vlaric. "Please keep in mind that if anything were to happen, my only focus is on my lord... Are you still eager to come?"

"Even if I might die, I’d still go. There’s no way I’m going back after coming this far," Vlaric replied.

Clawdeth’s brows furrowed slightly, yet she said nothing.

She grabbed both men, carrying them beneath her shoulders as she moved through the forest in search of the scent.

Due to their unified weight, she opted to move along the forest floor.

Osborne didn’t know why, but Clawdeth began moving faster than she’d done before, making him feel a bit disoriented. Vlaric wasn’t any different, his eyes bobbing all around, completely dizzy.

The three of them crossed a huge amount of distance in little time, moving through the forest like a fish in water.

Thump~!

"..?!!" Osborne’s body stiffened at one point when his second heart suddenly thumped strongly within his chest.

Clawdeth’s gaze suddenly sharpened, her muscles tightened before she leaped high into the air.

The moment she did, a huge silhouette leaped out from the shadows below her. Its claws glistened in the moonlight as it struck forward, only to miss its target.

It scraped its front limbs along the ground, spinning around to stop its inertia.

Clawdeth landed back down, her expression dark.

’To think I’d see one here...’ she thought to herself.

At the same time, Osborne’s second heart was beating rapidly, like an eager child who’d found something of interest.

The silhouette’s fierce golden eyes could be seen in the shadows.

It stepped into the moonlight on all fours, snarling as its fangs glistened in the moonlight, saliva dropping from its viscous maw.

Its upper body suddenly leaned upwards.

AWOOOOO!!!!!

Osborne hurriedly covered his ears to block out its deafening cry.

’This can’t be happening. What’s a demon doing here...’ He thought, his expression solemn.

He groaned, clutching at his racing heart.

’And why is this reacting this much to it?’

’What in the hell is going on?’ He cursed his luck. ’There was nothing like this in the novel!’

He stared at the black-furred, seven-to-eight-foot-tall creature, feeling a bit wronged.

But he quickly shook off that feeling. Right now, it didn’t matter whether his novel knowledge was wrong or not; what mattered was dealing with this situation as soon as possible.

’That’s an omega judging by its eyes. Werewolves are a demon type in the novel.’

’To think the thing I saw back then was a demon.’ Thinking of how he slept while this creature watched him left an uncomfortable feeling in his gut.

It seemed after his time in his nightmares, his instincts had begun to dull a bit.

’Omega Werewolves are strong... Normally it’d take a party of three-star aura users or a three-star mage to defeat one.’

Before Osborne could finish his thoughts, the werewolf charged at them.

Clawdeth clicked her tongue, an expression of disgust on her face.

She leaped up, avoiding the demon, before turning vertically in the air.

BAM!

Her feet came down on its head, the sound of bones cracking audible.

A few of its teeth fell out due to the blow, the werewolf’s head slamming down to the ground.

Clawdeth began to descend after the blow.

"...Rawwr!!!" But the moment her feet touched the floor—

One of the demon’s hands shot towards her feet.

Clawdeth was forced to retreat.

The werewolf got up on all fours, letting out a savage howl, clearly pissed.

"This is why I detest demons.... Their wretched tenacity makes even the weakest ones difficult to kill."

’Demons usually have unnatural healing, making them difficult to kill. Unfortunately for us, Werewolves are a demon type that excel at healing,’ Osborne said to himself.

The werewolf lunged at Clawdeth, but she gave it a spinning kick.

Its head jerked to the side, blood and teeth spilling out. The sound of its neck breaking was heard.

And yet it swung its head back, its eyes burning with rage.

It snapped its fangs at her, aiming to take a bite chunk from her.

"Fireball!"

But Osborne, who had finished his chant, sent a ball of fire the size of a basketball slamming into its face.

The werewolf let out a pitiful cry for the first time.

Its face quickly caught on fire. The demon began using its two front paws to slap at its face to put it out.

’Fire’s one of a Werewolf’s known weaknesses here. I might not know why this is happening, but at least I can still make use of the other things I know about this world.’

"That’s enough of your incessant whining." Clawdeth made her move.

She retrieved a hidden dagger from her thigh, her figure turning into a blur.

The dagger flowed underneath the moonlight as she coated it in her aura.

With one quick strike, she severed the creature’s arms, leaving a deep gash on its neck.

If one looked inside, they would see that even its neck bone had been severed, leaving little bits of muscle that were wriggling about, trying to heal once more.

’Tsk... I was aiming to sever its head in one blow, damned mongrel.’

’I’ve gotten too lax as of late.’ She raised her hand to deliver a defining blow.

"Wait! Don’t finish it!" Osborne shouted.

"What do you mean don’t kill it?! That thing almost took our heads off!" Vlaric spoke up.

Only now did Osborne realise that this guy was sober the whole time.

Osborne rolled his eyes at him.

"Is there any reason in particular why I shouldn’t?" Clawdeth said, a light frown on her face.

While she wasn’t as frightened as Vlaric, she still didn’t like the idea of letting a demon live.

Osborne walked over to the werewolf’s body.

The closer he got, the more his second heart’s heartbeat grew.

When he came within range, something unexpected happened.

Black-red chains that looked like they’d been dipped in magma shot out from his chest, quickly ensnaring the werewolf’s body like a cocoon.

Clawdeth and Vlaric were taken aback.

Vlaric was even more shaken by the sight.

"ARRGHH!!" Osborne suddenly cried out in alarm, dropping to his feet.

"My lord?!" Clawdeth quickly rushed to his side.

’Damnit! What’s this idiot trying to do now?!’ She cursed at her luck.

’It hurts! It hurts!!!’ Osborne felt a pain similar to the one he once experienced in the nightmare as something flowed through the chains into his second heart.

"What...." Clawdeth, who was supporting Osborne, felt her mind numbing for a moment when something dumbfounding happened.

As the chains pulsed, Osborne’s body began to change.

His aura within his first heart took on a red, violent hue.

Veins throbbing as his teeth began morphing into serrated fangs.

His eyes undergoing a change of their own, his sclera turning black while his pupils took on a crimson hue.

His nails growing sharper around the edges, taking on a black hue.

The moment the transformation ended, the chains quickly retracted, vanishing as quickly as they appeared.

Silence filled the area.

Osborne panted as he gradually recovered from the stress of his body changing.

But the moment his mind began to sober, his first heart plummeted.

’No...’

He stared at his hands on the ground.

His hands hurriedly began to touch his face. Each sensation causing him to feel more and more frightened.

’No no no no no!!!!’

"This can’t be happening!!!!" He yelled, grabbing at the horns on his head.

He turned around to glare at Vlaric, who shivered on getting a good look at his face.

"Tell me this is a joke!!!! Tell me this isn’t real!!!!" Osborne shouted, his voice raw with emotion.

He expected the thumping to be some kind of homing beacon, not this!

After everything he’d been through, he was finally getting ahead!

’I was doing so well!!!’

"Why did I have to become this?!!!!" He cried out, slamming his hands on the ground in frustration.

He didn’t see this as a blessing, but a curse!

To think he’d be turned into a demon.

How was he supposed to get his revenge now? No... Could he even afford to show his face outside anymore?

If anyone saw him, they would hang him or mount him to burn without a second thought.

Rebecca and Rachael’s sick faces as he gradually burned alive popped up in his head.

’Just why....’ Osborne bit his lower lip, his face creased into an ugly expression.

’Why am I always on the receiving end!!!!’ He raised both hands into the air.

But before he could slam them down, he heard something.

Clawdeth and Vlaric’s attention was suddenly pulled as well.

Only now did they realise that there was a naked little girl where the werewolf’s body once was.

---

"So that demon was actually a little girl?" Vlaric mumbled, terrified.

It seemed this was his first time dealing with a werewolf.
