Chapter 64: Wonderful Student...

"Since my job here has been done, I’ve decided that I’d only regret it if I didn’t speak up now."

"Young sir... Might I ask what you mean by fellow nobility?"

"Hehehe, while I might not look it, I am indeed a noble," Osborne said confidently.

"I chose to serve my lord for the time being in hopes of learning from such a great figure, but even then, there are times when one has to make a decision for themselves."

"While it’s unexpected, I’m sure my lord would understand if I asked him to let us stay here for a while longer."

"I’d love for nothing more than to get to know the young miss more," Osborne said with a slightly eager look on his face.

William was silent... Clearly, he hadn’t expected this.

His mouth was about to part, only for him to stop it. Just now, he wanted to affirm Osborne’s nobility by asking which noble house he originated from, but thinking about it, that would be no different from an insult in this situation, since it would seem like he thought he wasn’t suitable for his sister if his noble house was too low.

Normally, that wouldn’t be a problem, but since his family was a Baron family—the lowest of the low—still trying to discern whether someone of not only noble birth but someone with such a close connection to the husband of Lady Roosevelt could be misinterpreted as an insult.

"I must say, I didn’t expect such a thing to happen, Mr. Osborne."

"Just Osborne is fine. If it’s okay with you, I’d prefer brother-in-law." Osborne let out a quiet laugh, looking pleased with himself.

"Brother-in-law..." William muttered, his face a bit stiff, faint veins emerging on his neck and head. "It seems you really are determined, Young Master Osborne..."

"But I’m afraid such matters are for my sister to decide... And knowing her, she’s not really the type for suitors." William shook his head lightly.

"Then I’m afraid it can’t be helped," Osborne said.

"Indeed." William let out a helpless sigh.

"I’ll have to spend some more time."

"...?" William and Sebastian looked at him with stiff expressions.

Didn’t he get the hint? Both of them wondered.

Vanessa, who was watching, remained silent, yet deep within her eyes, a hint of amusement could be seen.

"It takes time to build a relationship. Before leaving here, I vow to make sure that the young miss at least acknowledges my resolve," Osborne said.

Not giving the both of them the time to report, he headed into the mansion, with Clawdeth and Gilhound following closely behind.

As he reached Vanessa atop the stairs, he offered her a kind smile before walking past.

’Good. At least now I have a bit more time to find out what’s really going on around here.’

’Though I wish I can handle whatever it is in the end...’

Long after Osborne left.

"That moronic bastard! Just what does he think he’s doing?!" William eventually couldn’t control his anger.

Vanessa began giggling all of a sudden.

"And you! What’s so funny?!" He glared at his sister. "Don’t you know what this means for us?!"

"The longer these people stay here, the more likely they’re bound to discover everything!" He said.

"You really can’t tell, can you?" Vanessa said, her lips curling up ever so slightly.

"What do you mean..." William frowned.

"There’s no use trying to hide anything from them. I’m afraid he already knows." She giggled.

"What?" William paused, taken aback. "If he knows, we have to tell Father! This could ruin everything."

"There’s no need to rush." Vanessa said, stopping her brother, who was making his way up the stairs.

"But you said he knows." William said, his expression disgruntled.

"Yes, but not everything... If he knew everything, do you really think he’d be trying so hard just to remain here?"

"I’m afraid he’s only begun to realise that something’s terribly wrong, which is why he’s trying so much to come up with a reason to remain."

"Are you really sure about that..." William squinted his eyes.

"That depends. I could be wrong, or I could be right." Vanessa said.

"This is no time to be making jokes." William’s expression darkened.

"Well, if you’re so earnest to inform Father, I suggest you go right ahead." She said, stepping aside.

William’s expression darkened even more.

"Of course, you’ll have to bear his wrath if you turn out to be wrong. We both know how he gets when he’s riled up." Vanessa snickered before walking off, leaving her brother behind.

"That being said, I’m curious to see what he’ll amount to."

"It’s not the first time someone’s come here looking for trouble."

"Unfortunately for him, we’re already so close. Even if they learn the truth, I’m afraid it’d already be too late." She muttered beneath her breath.

Osborne knocked on Julie’s room door. He heard hurried footsteps from the inside before the door opened.

"My lord–" Julie was about to say, but Osborne placed a hand to her lips before pulling her inside.

He then looked outside the door, left and right, to make sure no one was close by, before he closed the door.

"Didn’t Gilhound tell you already?" Osborne said.

"Tell me what, my lord?" Julie asked, genuinely confused.

Osborne sighed. "Forget it. For now, just refer to me as young master until we leave this place, understand?"

Julie nodded her head. "If that’s your wish, I’ll gladly follow."

"Forgive me for asking, young master, but what brings you to my room?"

"As my teacher, it seems you’re beginning to neglect your duties."

"I’m sorry, my lord." Julie suddenly panicked. "But with everything that was happening, I didn’t think it was my place to interfere."

Osborne raised a dismissive hand. "It’s alright."

"I need you to teach me spells. Particularly combat-oriented ones."

"C-Combat spells? Did something happen, young master?" Julie asked, sounding nervous.

Realising that it would be easier to proceed with the conversation by explaining things to her, Osborne did.

Julie paled after learning what was going on.

"T-Then why don’t we leave and return with reinforcements?" She stuttered.

"Staying here would only be putting you in danger, young master." She added.

’You think I don’t know that?’

"If we leave now, I’m afraid it’d be too late by the time we return." Osborne said. "We need to stop whatever it is they’re up to now."

"No ill will intended, young master, but what could we possibly do? With just us, can we really take on a noble family alone?"

"We will be if you teach me some spells," Osborne said confidently.

’Besides, there’s still Mr. Silvester. I doubt anything they’re up to could go against someone like him.’

’I’m not sure if he’s on the same level as Roseline, but he should be at six stars at the very least, considering his capabilities so far.’

"Alright, young master... First circle spells are the easiest to learn, but please don’t try to learn everything at once." Julie walked over to her belongings before taking out a spell book.

"This contains spells from the first circle to the third. While we aren’t in a favourable situation, I’d still advise against trying to learn the spells of the second circle and above."

"Without sufficient mana, you’d only end up injuring yourself if you tried to use such spells. Besides, second circle spells and above require more comprehension ability to truly grasp." Julie explained. "Not to mention they bear a huge weight on one’s own circles."

’I should already have ample mana to cast second-tier spells though...’ Osborne muttered to himself.

"Then I’ll just have to break through the second circle–"

"I strongly advise against that, young master." Julie interrupted him.

"The second circle isn’t as easy as you think. It takes far more effort to break through each corresponding circle."

"Moreover, I think it’s unwise for us to conduct a breakthrough here of all places."

’She’s right... It could end up alerting them, and they might end up speeding up whatever they’re doing...’

Normally, in Baron families, the strongest person they had would usually be at two-star level; in rare cases, even three-star level for knights.

But with how well off the Baron’s family looked, he couldn’t deny the fact that they might have magic users at their disposal as well.

And knowing his first breakthrough, he knew there was a high chance of him attempting a breakthrough being found out.

"Then I’ll hold off from breaking through for now," he said.

Julie let out a sigh, because she really didn’t know any other means to persuade him.

He practically only reached the first circle while still knowing zero spells, yet now he was in a rush to become a second circle mage?

Even in all her time at the academy, she hadn’t seen anyone so eager like him.

’Hence why you should always look before you leap, lest you fall into an unwanted situation...’ She sighed inwardly.

"Should I stay here and study this?" Osborne asked.

"There’s no need, young master. You may read it at your own leisure. Please do take your time, and if you come across any troubles, you need only call me to help." Julie said with a forced smile.
