Chapter 58: Yeah, Pretty Much.
She refused to believe he was happy with the current development. She had already planned this last night and came to the conclusion that such methods were the only way to put him back in his place.
Even though she knew it was a farce, seeing him here, acting like this, still irked her for reasons she couldn’t understand.
Osborne reached forward and gently grasped her hand, lifting it ever so gently. He kissed the back of her palm.
"Thank you, my love. I promise not to bring shame to your noble name–" Osborne couldn’t finish his sentence before he was sent flying by a surge of her aura.
Roseline’s gaze turned intense, burning with anger. To think he would dare to do such a thing, and to her face no less.
"I’ve got you..." Silvester, who seemed to have been waiting by, jumped in just in time to catch Osborne before he smashed against the wall.
He used his aura to shield him from Roseline’s own ruthless aura that was surging within the room.
’This young man really has a knack for courting death. To think he would even go this far.’ Silvester stole a glance at Osborne, the feeling of helplessness within him growing even more.
"Stay out of this!!!!" She said to Silvester, who had Osborne in his arms. "This time, I’m really going to kill this ignorant bastard!!!" Roseline yelled.
"Let’s not jump to conclusions. Don’t you think you might be misunderstanding his intentions so soon?"
"Misunderstanding? That fool mocked me to my face, yet you call it a misunderstanding?" Roseline sneered, her aura surging even more.
"Mocked you? When did I do that?!" Osborne blurted out, looking anxious.
"See, Sir Silvester, I told you it wouldn’t work. She clearly hates me. Nothing I do appeases her. This was a bad idea from the start!"
"Huh?" Hearing his words, Roseline paused. Her surging aura didn’t vanish, but it stopped rising. "What foolishness is he spouting now?" Roseline turned to Silvester.
’How am I supposed to know?’ Silvester cried in his head.
"After learning of your goodwill, Mr. Silvester suggested I do something to thank you for your efforts..." Osborne said, gritting his teeth, his expression mixed with annoyance and frustration.
"I only meant to thank you, yet you’re trying to kill me?!"
"You expect me to believe that crap?!" Roseline’s expression turned cold. She waved her hand, aura converging to form a blade.
Osborne placed a hand on his face, letting out a light series of laughs.
"I’ll admit I didn’t want to do it. After all, I hate you!!! You stood by and did nothing while your kin tried to kill me."
"But that doesn’t mean I’d be ungrateful to someone lending me their aid. As a Bismarck, my family isn’t that incompetent." Osborne blurted out, his voice choking, while his eyes moistened a bit.
"I thought maybe this time you wanted to make amends, but who am I kidding? You never thought you needed to explain your actions to me from the very beginning. After all, to someone like you, I’m just an ant you can stomp on whenever you please, aren’t I?" He bit his lower lip in frustration before getting out of Silvester’s carry.
"Young lord?!" Silvester was caught off guard when Osborne suddenly ran towards Roseline.
"If you want to kill me, then go right ahead!"
"That’s what you’ve always wanted, isn’t it? You find the thought of having someone as useless as me around distasteful, don’t you? Even when I try to get better, to you, it doesn’t matter, because in your eyes, I’ll always be a worthless tool." Even when faced with her surging aura, his expression didn’t falter.
"Just kill me and get it over with, but leave Mr. Silvester out of this! He only advised me because he cared about you."
"To think someone like you is lucky enough to have someone like him as a friend." Osborne let out a self-pitying scoff.
"You still won’t stop running that mouth of yours. Do you really think I don’t dare to kill you–" Roseline raised her aura blade up.
"Then shut up and do it already!" Osborne cut her off. "You think I don’t know I can be replaced?"
"I don’t mind dying at your hands, although I do pity the next man who has to put up with a woman like yourself." He said, half-smirking, half-smiling.
Osborne watched as the aura blade came down on him.
In his last moments, all he saw was white before his consciousness vanished.
---
Silvester flashed forward and caught Osborne’s body before it fell to the floor.
He stared at his body with no wound whatsoever before letting out a sigh.
"Get him out of here..." Roseline said, clicking her tongue in displeasure.
"I’m impressed you didn’t cleave him in two." Silvester chuckled lightly before carrying Osborne in his arms.
"And since when did I listen to the orders of someone so weak?" Roseline sat back behind her desk, picking up her book.
"This much should at least set that head of his straight," she muttered.
"Then we’ll leave before we disturb you any further." Silvester let out a quiet laugh before leaving the study with Osborne in his arms.
He paused in the hallway, looking back for a moment. ’Who would think the Northern Tyrant would one day stop her sword, and for someone so weak no less.’ He shook his head lightly before continuing.
---
"Urrghh..." Osborne groaned, his hand on his head as he sat up straight.
"What happened?" He noticed he was in a carriage with Silvester alone.
"She’s no longer here, so you can drop the act." Silvester massaged his forehead.
Osborne paused before letting out an awkward sigh. "I guess I really can’t get anything past you, can I?" He said.
"Did you really have to stop by the kitchen first?"
"Wouldn’t have been able to fake tears if I didn’t," Osborne admitted.
"I take it we’ve already left the estate?"
"Yes," Silvester said.
"What about the others?" He asked.
"I had them arranged a separate carriage for them," Silvester said. "They’re right behind us."
Hearing that, Osborne let out a sigh.
’While he did try to fool her, I couldn’t detect any concrete lies in his words... apart from the beginning.’
’Which makes me wonder just how much of what he did back there was false...’ Silvester pondered to himself in silence.
"Is something wrong?" Osborne noticed his subtle gaze and asked.
Silvester paused for a moment before shaking his head. "No, it’s nothing." He let out a breath before looking out the window.
’Let’s bury such thoughts... for now, at least.’ Silvester said to himself.
---
"Oh, I forgot to mention, we had someone else tag along. She seemed so insistent that I found it hard not to," Silvester said.
"Who exactly are you talking about?" Osborne raised a brow.
"Your personal aid, or so she called herself. I believe her name was Clawdeth."
’Why would she want to come along?’ he wondered, only for it to hit him.
Since he wouldn’t be at the estate, Clawdeth wouldn’t have anyone to look after her in case the two young misses grew resentful because she had switched sides.
"I hope it’s not a problem," Silvester asked, sounding apologetic.
"Not at all. I honestly almost forgot about her." Osborne let out a quiet laugh.
In the carriage in the back, Clawdeth couldn’t help but sneeze for some reason.
"A-Are you okay?" Julie asked her.
Clawdeth flashed her a silent stare, causing her to shrink back.
"No need for that. She was only worried about you," Gilhound spoke up.
"Worry about yourselves..." Clawdeth scoffed, turning her gaze out the window.
The atmosphere in the carriage was a bit strange.
Gilhound looked downcast, wondering why he couldn’t have just stuck with the guys in the other carriage.
In here, he felt more like a mediator than anything.
Gilhound sighed, hoping they would reach their destination already.
---
A few days later, Osborne and his group approached their first destination.
"My lord, we’ve entered the McClain Barony," Gilhound said.
During the trip, Osborne had decided to sit in the second carriage, allowing Julie to sit in the first carriage alone with Silvester.
"I see..." Osborne muttered. His hands gently stroking Clawdeth’s ear.
Clawdeth rested her head on his lap, gnashing her teeth in frustration, inwardly cursing at him.
Gilhound didn’t say a word about it. Everything turned out like this during one of their stops when Osborne learned how tense Clawdeth made the second carriage.
In a way, this was the punishment he decided to give her.
But in truth, it was more like a gift to himself, since he enjoyed the soft sensation of stroking her fluffy ears.
’Baron McClain...’ Osborne tried to remember if he knew anything about the noble he was about to visit.
’I don’t recall hearing such a name in the story though.’ He concluded that the man must have been a background character he didn’t bother to remember.
---
They soon reached the McClain estate. Compared to the Roosevelt estate, it couldn’t compare, and yet it was still better than his Bismarck family abode.
