But anyone who saw her face right now could see how ugly it looked. Clearly, she didn’t want to accept this, but she had no choice in the matter.

After betraying her ladyship to join her younger sister, she had lost all favour with her, branding herself a traitor. And now that Rebecca, who once backed her, had abandoned her, there was no one else she could rely on.

"Take her away..." Roseline said. Two knights moved forward.

"Wait," Osborne spoke up.

Both knights paused at Clawdeth’s side.

All eyes landed on Osborne, wondering what the hell he was thinking right now.

"Don’t you think it’s strange that someone who’s served the household for so long, with nothing but loyalty, would suddenly go against your own orders?" Osborne stepped closer to Roseline and said.

"What are you trying to say? That someone else was behind it?!" Rebecca yelled at him, cursing him for trying to interfere now that things were proceeding smoothly.

"Certainly not. After all, we all just heard her confess to the crime herself."

"But I can’t help but feel that there’s some falsehood in what she’s saying."

"Sister, don’t listen to him! I don’t know what his aim is, but it’s obvious he’s just wasting everyone’s time with this." Rebecca cried out.

"Quiet... I want to hear what he has to say." Roseline said before shifting her focus back to Osborne.

"Elaborate..." Roseline said.

"For starters, she said she was there to sabotage my efforts, but is that really the case? I’m sure those who accompanied me can testify to the fact that the only moment we noticed her was when a friend of mine revealed her to us."

"Before that, she hadn’t done anything incriminating in any way. If I had to guess—" Osborne said, turning towards Clawdeth, who was staring at him in surprise, not understanding what was going on.

"Rather than trying to sabotage my efforts and go against your ladyship’s command, you followed us simply because you were worried about me and only wanted to make sure I didn’t get into any trouble along the way." Osborne said.

He looked at Rebecca with a calm look that contrasted her frustrated one. "After all, you’ve said it before. I do tend to be troublesome at times."

Osborne then turned back to face Roseline.

"All I’m saying is that I think it’s unjust for you to punish someone who did no wrong. If anything, she was only trying to make sure I succeeded and met your expectations."

"Is it truly right to take the life of a loyal servant like herself?"

"Lady Roseline... No, as your husband, I plead with you to please revert your verdict."

The entire hall was suddenly enveloped in a pin-drop silence, with most of the people within completely speechless by what they just heard and witnessed.

Roseline was silent, yet if one looked closer, for a split second, the edge of her lips curled upwards ever so slightly.

"It would appear my judgement was incorrect." Roseline waved her hands. "Release her."

Both knights nodded before releasing Clawdeth of her shackles.

"Thank you, my love. Your benevolence knows no bounds." Osborne offered a slight bow towards Roseline.

’I expected you to be a lot tougher about this.’

’Don’t tell me you truly didn’t want to kill her.’ He couldn’t help letting out a quiet laugh inwardly.

’I never knew you cherished your subordinates so much.’ He mused. ’Looks like there are more things I can use to my advantage going forward.’

Roseline was the first to take her leave, while accompanied by Guinevere, of course.

After them were the two youngest sisters. Rachael glared openly at Osborne for daring to put her sister in such a situation.

Rebecca, on the other hand, had a hint of being troubled in her eyes. She expected Osborne to be satisfied with the former ongoing results. After all, even though he couldn’t get her, at least he could get rid of another thorn in his side.

Yet in the end, the unexpected had happened, which left her wondering just what his aim was.

"I’m surprised." Ruby walked up to Osborne and said with a smile.

"By that, you mean?"

"I didn’t think you’d try to help her." Ruby chuckled.

"Why wouldn’t I?" Osborne feigned ignorance. "She was obviously being framed. If I did nothing, she would have suffered the blame."

"Indeed. To which I’m grateful you stepped in."

’Shouldn’t you be more upset that your siblings caused such a mess in the first place?’ Osborne thought with contempt, yet he didn’t let it show on his face, continuing to retain an amicable expression.

"Please, you make it sound like I did something grand. I only helped someone who deserved it."

"I guess you’re right." Ruby laughed a bit.

"I hear you’re currently looking for instructors. If you’re ever looking for a sparring partner, feel free to come look for me."

"I’m honoured you’re giving me such an opportunity."

"Don’t be modest. We’re family after all." Ruby smiled. "Honestly, when I heard you call my sister that, I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry." Ruby acted as if she was trying to hold back her laughter.

"Really? Then did I unintentionally upset her?"

"No, I doubt it." Ruby waved her hands dismissively. "If she was upset, she would have punished you then and there." She giggled.

"My guess is she’s okay with it, but try not to take it for granted, alright. My sister can be hard to read at times."

"I’ll put this information to good use, thank you." Osborne offered a light bow.

"You’re welcome." Ruby laughed before leaving.

Once she left, Osborne noticed that there was still someone else in the hall along with some servants.

Clawdeth stood some distance from him, an impatient look on her face as if she was dying to know something.

Osborne merely smirked before approaching her.

"Let’s not talk here. I’d prefer we talk somewhere with less eyes," he said as he walked past her.

Clawdeth frowned. Nevertheless, she still followed after him.
