Staring at the three options flashing on the screen, Yang Yu pressed the up and down keys on the controller. The arrow swayed back and forth between the three options and finally paused, for the moment, on the [Civilian] option.

“This time’s game… shouldn’t be fully immersive, right?” Yang Yu asked.

“You can choose whether or not to experience a fully immersive game. There’s a switch here—when it’s on ‘on’, that means fully immersive.”

Black Spade pulled out a black remote, waved it in front of Yang Yu, and flicked the button back and forth. “on” and “off” switched repeatedly in the upper left corner of the screen.

Yang Yu didn’t make a choice, just temporarily put down the controller,

“Doing it over again, maybe I can make up for some regrets in certain places.

But…

right now isn’t a time when I can leisurely sit here playing games.

I’ve got a live broadcast running on my end.

With my Magic following along, everything here is being streamed across the world.

We already burned quite a bit of time just now playing.

If we take too long to get to the point, the audience is going to get impatient.”

Black Spade’s lips curled up: “I am a considerate goddess, you know. I already knew what you were worried about.

Don’t worry, I’ve adjusted the time in this space.

The flow of time here is tens of thousands of times faster than outside.

You have plenty of time to experience other lives.

Your live signal has already been intercepted by me, and I’ve given it a super high delay.

From the outside, it still looks like you’re standing in front of the door you came in from.”

Yang Yu gave a helpless smile: “All these fancy tricks.

With your actual power, breaking through this thing should be a piece of cake for you, right?

Why let yourself get caught?

Why haven’t you thought about escaping from here all these years?”

Black Spade tilted her head to the side, looking like she had a grievance she couldn’t voice:

“Sigh.

Every family has its own difficult scripture.

This touches on our extremely long history.

I know that’s what you came here for, so don’t rush.

Let me it a bit more.

“

“Since you put it that way, I won’t rush.”

Yang Yu picked up the controller again,

“Don’t turn on fully immersive mode.

With something that realistic, I’m afraid I’ll get completely addicted.

Besides, once that mode is on, I lose part of my memories, and I can’t turn on a god’s-eye view to try out all the different endings.”

Black Spade dropped her earlier sadness, turned off the fully immersive mode, and grinned cheekily:

“Hurry up and start!

I can’t wait to see the look on your face.

Your next expressions are definitely going to be entertaining.”

“You’re such a terrible goddess personality-wise. Don’t say stuff like that out loud on purpose.”

“I’m just afraid you’ll misunderstand. If I keep staring at your face, and you mistakenly think I’m into you, what am I supposed to do then?”

“If you really liked me, you wouldn’t have shown that kind of scene just now to torture my willpower.”

Urged on by Black Spade, Yang Yu chose [Civilian] and hit the start button, diving into the game again.

A little pixelated figure appeared on the screen, and Yang Yu instantly felt like he’d gone back to the 80s and 90s.

To test the game’s performance, get used to the controls, and also to be safe, Yang Yu decided to first walk through it once according to his original choices.

To Yang Yu’s surprise, even though the main gameplay visuals were extremely simple, some key scenes actually had live-action-style cutscenes.

For example, the scene where he invited Bai Jin.

Back then Bai Jin was incredibly skinny, gloomy and withdrawn, and whenever she got triggered, weird lines would pop out of her mouth.

It was hard to imagine that Bai Jin from back then and the current Bai Jin were the same person.

Yang Yu felt a faint sense of nostalgia.

Bai Jin had grown a lot, just like he had.

The battles in this game weren’t the same old fixed turn-based format either.

When you faced an important enemy, the visuals would switch to real-time combat. You couldn’t just rely on stacking stats on the Status screen to brute-force the strategy.

After making choice after choice, Yang Yu found that the game’s freedom gradually shrank, slowly converging onto a fixed path, heading toward a fixed ending.

Yang Yu made a save, then tried jumping onto a more dangerous route.

Sure enough, just as he expected, he almost lost his life on that route, but the choices he made didn’t significantly change the final ending.

Yang Yu’s plan and route had long since been locked in by the choices he’d made over and over.

Yang Yu quickly realized that what had originally been a sandbox game was gradually turning into a regular RPG.

“Did Black Spade turn everything I experienced into a game, or…”

Just as that thought crossed Yang Yu’s mind, the screen jumped ahead into a storyline he had just played through not long ago.

With his previous Experience to back him up, Yang Yu didn’t need much effort this time to take down Lux.

Subtitles floated slowly up from the bottom of the screen. Imitating Black Spade, Yang Yu rebooted the machine,

“If anyone outside notices something off, give me a shout.

So we can resume the stream.

Right now I want to try some other paths.”

Black Spade replied with a smile, “Be my guest.”

Pressing the controller, Yang Yu once again selected the [Civilian] Profession.

Since he’d decided to try a different route, Yang Yu planned to go big.

Entering the game, Yang Yu didn’t stupidly waste time on He Meng. Instead, he found a small clump of bushes, slipped through, discovered the Slime Prairie where regular Slimes gathered, beat up Slimes, and left the Newbie Village a whole year ahead of schedule.

The direction Yang Yu headed was completely opposite to the adventurer’s guild where Bai Jin was.

When he hit level twenty, Yang Yu didn’t choose the Fusion System, but picked the machine-crafting System instead.

The Yang Yu on-screen thus embarked on a completely different life.

After a series of inquiries, the machine-crafting-system Yang Yu obtained intel that “Lamias are skilled at building machines,” and rushed to the Kafezaro Desert.

Relying on his excellent eloquence, Yang Yu persuaded a Lamia’s Sand Sailing Ship to take him to the Lamia nation.

After that, Yang Yu and the Lamia Queen agreed on a three-year contract.

Yang Yu promised to find a way to return the Lamia Queen to normal, and only then was he allowed to remain in the Lamia kingdom.

During his stay in the Lamia kingdom, Yang Yu unexpectedly met a girl named Bing Lu, and under her guidance, his machine-crafting skills advanced by leaps and bounds.

The Lamia girl named Bing Lu was the heroine on this route for Yang Yu.

If Yang Yu stubbornly refused Bing Lu’s confession, he would be buried in the sand by Bing Lu’s mother for three days and three nights.

On the night of the third day, Bing Lu would come back to confess again. If Yang Yu refused again, and again turned down her request to leave behind some beautiful memories, Bing Lu’s mother would confiscate all his Equipment and quietly toss him into the Sand Sea to fend for himself.

Because food and water were scarce in the Sand Sea and Yang Yu without Equipment wasn’t much different from an ordinary Civilian, after struggling for two or three days, he would finally collapse in the sand and turn into a dried corpse.

Reload the save.

As long as Yang Yu accepted Bing Lu’s confession at any point, Bing Lu would establish herself as the main heroine of this route.

If she caught Yang Yu exchanging flirty looks with other girls, Bing Lu would wrap her tail around Yang Yu’s leg, and at night use Special methods to show him that he absolutely did not have the spare capacity to mess with other girls.

At the end of this route, Yang Yu successfully gathered the five keys left by Lux, and in the [Hall of History] obtained blueprints for building a Gundam, then successfully built one.

Unfortunately, after piloting the Gundam to clash with Lux a few times, Yang Yu realized that one or two giant machines couldn’t make up for the difference in power, and he ultimately chose to surrender to Lux.

After Lux’s defeat, the Yang Yu on this route immediately fled with Bing Lu and embarked on the road of getting rich through technology.

By the end of the story, statues of him and Bing Lu were erected in the greatest City of Progress and were revered by their disciples and descendants for generations.
