Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!
Chapter 1771: Reunion
With the black sphere following behind, the Sea-dwelling Species guarding the underground laboratory did not dare slack off in the slightest and immediately brought Gao Yuanyi into the underground lab.
Before Gao Yuanyi returned, Yang Yu had already imagined several possible reactions from him and had long arranged everything properly.
After stepping down a long narrow staircase, Gao Yuanyi’s view suddenly opened up.
Hundreds and thousands of cylindrical modification devices were neatly lined up. Each device had a lamp on top; the vast majority were dim and unlit, seventeen emitted a faint yellow glow, two shone with a warning red light, and only one emitted a blue radiance.
Without needing to think, Gao Yuanyi instinctively walked toward the blue light.
The old Sea-dwelling Species on duty stepped down from his station and walked straight toward Gao Yuanyi.
Handing the button in his hand to Gao Yuanyi, the old Sea-dwelling Species turned without looking back and walked to the door, then followed the guards at the entrance up the stairs step by step.
Gao Yuanyi could no longer restrain himself and sprinted madly toward the cultivation device topped with the blue light.
The cultivation device had a small window, through which one could see what was inside.
A familiar face came into view; Gao Yuanyi instinctively slowed his steps, staggering as he threw himself against the cold cultivation device.
It worked.
Did it really work?
They’re not tricking me, are they…
His hand gently stroking the transparent window, Gao Yuanyi could hardly believe what he was seeing. He wanted to pull the adorable girl before him into his arms and carefully touch her face.
“How am I supposed to open this?”
Gao Yuanyi quickly circled the cultivation device, searching for a switch that could open it.
In that instant, he actually forgot about the button the old man had just given him.
After searching for a long time and finding no switch, Gao Yuanyi suddenly remembered the switch the old man had given him.
Gao Yuanyi couldn’t help letting out a self-mocking sigh:
“Seriously.
This isn’t like me at all.
All flustered like this—if she wakes up and sees me like this…
She’ll definitely end up laughing at me.
Calm down, calm down.”
Taking deep breaths again and again to steady himself, Gao Yuanyi lifted the switch and carefully pressed it.
With a “ding-dong,” the culture fluid inside the device was rapidly drained away.
With a “click,” the door of the cultivation device slowly opened, and a petite-looking girl, eyes tightly closed, fell onto the base of the device.
Trembling, Gao Yuanyi stepped into the cultivation device and picked up the naked girl. Tears, disobedient as ever, slid from the corners of his eyes and dripped onto the girl’s cheeks, one drop, then another.
Perhaps sensing the disturbance from outside, the girl in Gao Yuanyi’s arms slowly opened her eyes a crack, her gaze hazy as she brought that familiar face into focus.
The girl was groggy, feeling as if she were in some sort of dream.
“Where exactly am I…
Heaven? Or Hell?
If Yuan Yi is here, then it definitely, definitely has to be Heaven.
Back then I clearly… did that so you could live…
So why are you still appearing here?
“
The girl, Wei, reached out, trying to touch Gao Yuanyi’s face, but because of her unfocused vision, her hand missed his cheek.
Tears welled up at the corners of Wei’s eyes and rolled down in big drops as she burst out crying with a “waa”:
“This is Hell.
This is definitely Hell. Being able to see but not touch—this has to be Hell…
Why, why…
I worked so hard when I was alive, so why do I still have to suffer like this after I’m dead!
I knew it, I knew it…”
Wei cried like a baby in Gao Yuanyi’s arms. Her heart-wrenching sobs seemed to clutch at Gao Yuanyi’s heart, leaving him completely at a loss in an instant.
Watching everything through the monitoring device, Yang Yu couldn’t help but snort with pig-like laughter in the shadows.
Although he didn’t know exactly what had happened between the two of them, judging by the situation, all the preparations he’d made had definitely been worth it.
Bai Jin, beside Yang Yu, leaned a little closer to him and couldn’t help thinking, “If I’d sacrificed myself in that last battle, would Yang Yu be like Gao Yuanyi is now?”
He would.
He absolutely would.
Bai Jin let a smile slip as she continued, together with Yang Yu, to watch Gao Yuanyi and Wei’s reunion.
By absorbing the complete Devil King’s Power, Gao Yuanyi had become the one and only Demon King in this world. Yet he had not lost his original self despite accepting the memories and abilities of the previous Demon Kings, still showing his truest side in front of the person he loved.
“I’m alive. You’re alive too.”
Like a four- or five-year-old child desperate to prove he was right, Gao Yuanyi grabbed Wei’s hand and pressed it to his cheek.
Warmth spread from beneath her fingertips, and only then did Wei’s sobs gradually die down. With her palm, she gently stroked Gao Yuanyi’s face.
This sensation, this warmth, didn’t feel fake at all.
What on earth is going on?
Wasn’t I dead?
Scene after scene surfaced in Wei’s mind.
The moment she and Gao Yuanyi challenged the Deceitful Emperor—she remembered it vividly; struggling through the snow to carry Gao Yuanyi on her back—she remembered that vividly; collapsing in helplessness and encountering the Snow Woman—she also remembered that vividly.
Back then, she should have already been dead. How could she possibly still be alive!
Seeing Wei’s anxiety and disbelief, Gao Yuanyi spoke as if coaxing a child:
“For you, I did it.
For you, I defeated the Demon King and took his Strength for myself.
Then, after searching high and low, I finally found a way to bring you back.
And I finally resurrected you.
I wouldn’t lie to you; every word I’m saying is true.
You see me, you touch me—do you still not believe it?”
“Resurrection? Demon King?”
Wei stared at Gao Yuanyi, still finding it a little hard to believe.
Just then, her gaze slid to Gao Yuanyi’s massive mechanical arm, [Laplace].
If this really were Hell or Heaven, [Laplace] couldn’t possibly still be by Gao Yuanyi’s side and follow him here.
Thinking of this, Wei finally started to believe, just a little, that she had been resurrected.
A tiny mischievous streak—or perhaps it was the pent-up longing that finally exploded in this moment.
Blushing bright red, her gaze flitting everywhere, Wei said:
“Whether I’ve really been resurrected or not…
Is still hard to say.
I can’t confirm this isn’t an Illusion.
If, if you could kiss me once, and I carefully feel it with my lips, maybe then I could…”
Before Wei could finish, Gao Yuanyi lowered his head and sealed her lips with his own.
At some point, a tiny figure with golden twin tails had sat down on Gao Yuanyi’s shoulder.
Laplace spread her hands helplessly. At this rate, the two of them might end up doing everything they hadn’t done yet; should she avert her eyes?
Before that, she probably ought to remind Gao Yuanyi, just in case this turned into a live broadcast…
The two watching over here shouldn’t have any weird fetishes, right? If things really developed that way, they’d actively cut the feed, right…
I’m telling you, Gao Yuanyi, you’re a Demon King now—try to have a little shame!
