Chapter 629: Chapter 626: A False Alarm

Bai Wanwan’s heart plummeted, and a chill spread through her entire body.

She stared at the pitch-black screen, as if she could see right through it to the bug—the one worth ten thousand Points, the one carrying a vital mission—being crushed to dust in the hands of that terrifying being.

Slowly, stiffly, she raised her head to look at her two Beast Husbands.

They had all clearly seen the horrifying final scene and heard the soft, cracking sound.

The cave fell into a dead silence. Bai Wanwan opened her mouth, but her throat was too tight to speak.

A mix of failure, lingering fear, and sheer shock at the Beast God’s power and awareness choked the words in her throat.

’We’ve probably been exposed.’

Jin Yi was the first to react. He took the tablet from Bai Wanwan’s hands and helped her to her feet. "Wanwan, we need to leave here. Now."

Jin Yi’s voice was hushed, his tone more urgent and grave than she had ever heard.

Based on the timing, their current position wasn’t far from the Beast God’s location. And judging by the speed he’d displayed on screen, they felt a potent, life-threatening sense of crisis, even as powerful Red Rank Males.

The situation was critical. There was no time to hesitate or plan.

He said no more to her, turning quickly to the equally tense Yin Ze beside him. "You look after Wanwan. Get packed. We’re leaving immediately."

Without further delay, he strode over to Chou Rong, who was near the cave entrance quietly arranging the night watch. Jin Yi concisely explained the horrifying scene from the screen and the destruction of the reconnaissance device.

Chou Rong’s expression instantly turned grim, his gaze sharp as a knife.

He didn’t ask a single question. He spun around and issued a series of complex, rapid hand signals to all the Beastmen, whether they were sitting or lying down inside the cave.

There was no commotion, no questions.

Within the dry, spacious cave, every Beastman moved with the precision of a machine. They silently packed their few belongings, smothered the campfire, and erased all traces of their presence. Then, like shadows melting into the night, they departed the temporary shelter one by one, quickly and in perfect order.

The only sounds left in the air were suppressed breaths and the faint rustle of clothing.

Bai Wanwan knew the crisis hadn’t ended with the reconnaissance device’s destruction. Like a tide in the dead of night, it was still silently spreading.

Lying on Jin Yi’s furry back, she kept glancing behind her...

Returning to the Tiger Clan was out of the question now. They had no choice but to brace themselves and continue toward the Elephant Clan. At least it was a Super Tribe, and with High Rank Beastmen from all the major tribes heading there, it would be relatively safer.

Under the cover of deep darkness, the males moved like the most cautious of predators, traversing the forest with silent speed.

The atmosphere remained tense. Every Beastman knew the potential threat could be right behind them.

After a while, Bai Wanwan took advantage of a lull in their flight to open the system panel in her mind again.

She was torn. ’Should I risk spending more Points? I could get a flying recon-bird to check on the situation, at least to see if he’s tracking us.’

The system, sensing her thoughts, immediately spoke in her mind. "Host, the insectoid reconnaissance device was not exposed. You don’t need to worry."

’Not exposed?’ Bai Wanwan was stunned, questioning it in her mind.

’The image of it being crushed was still fresh in my memory.’

"Correct," the system’s voice held the absolute confidence of a technological marvel. "The mimetic reconnaissance device cannot be identified as anything other than a living creature by the inhabitants of this world. Even if his perception is extremely acute and he could vaguely sense the weak energy frequencies or signals from its internal operations, he wouldn’t be able to comprehend what it was, much less connect it to ’reconnaissance.’ From its appearance, material, and biological signature, it was just a rather peculiar—or, you could say, a rather ’tough’—bug."

The system’s explanation was a huge relief to Bai Wanwan. The tension that had gripped her finally began to ease.

’As long as our greatest trump card—our unconventional surveillance methods—hasn’t been exposed, losing one reconnaissance device is an acceptable loss.’

She immediately patted Jin Yi’s back, signaling for him to slow down, while also calling out to Chou Rong, who was leading the way.

She quickly and concisely relayed the system’s explanation.

After listening, the grim look on Chou Rong’s face softened slightly.

"It’s for the best that we weren’t discovered. A stroke of luck in a bad situation." But he didn’t relax his guard, his sharp gaze still sweeping the dark jungle around them. "But... we should still travel through the night. I won’t rest easy until we reach the Elephant Clan."

According to Jin Yi, the "Beast God’s" strength far exceeded their estimations. Chou Rong had to ensure Wanwan’s safety above all else.

Although he had been mentally prepared to face danger on this journey, Chou Rong couldn’t suppress his worry when a crisis so immediate and heart-stopping actually occurred.

He worried that if he failed to protect Wanwan, she would get hurt.

This anxiety made him even more cautious.

And so, they made no further stops. The entire group picked up the pace, heading for the Elephant Clan’s territory with all possible speed.

「Meanwhile, in a deep cavern passageway.」

The Beast God stared at the "bug" in his hand. It was now just a shriveled husk, its complex internal structure utterly crushed. He furrowed his brows, which were covered in fleshy blisters.

’Was it really just a bug?’

’Then why did I have such a strong feeling of being watched?’

After staring at it for another moment, he casually tossed the crushed remains aside as if flicking away a speck of dust.

He didn’t give it much more thought. ’It was probably just some kind of bug I’ve never seen before.’

Roger’s gaze followed the motion, and he glanced at the bug on the ground.

’If my feeling was just my imagination, was the Beast God’s as well?’

He stared at the bug, now just a smear on the ground, and frowned...

The next moment, a massive hand, covered in scars and fleshy blisters, landed heavily on the shoulder of the dazed Roger.

Roger snapped back to his senses. He respectfully turned and stood straight. "Lord Beast God, do you have any other orders for me?"

"Your idea was good," the Beast God’s voice was as strange and deep as ever, "but I have other plans. And I need you to carry them out for me..."

He leaned down, bringing his mouth close to Roger’s ear, and began to whisper his instructions.

His voice was like a serpent’s hiss, promising a new, more insidious and dangerous plot against Bai Wanwan and the Tiger Clan.

Roger kept his head bowed, listening respectfully, but a complex, inscrutable light flickered in his eyes.
