Chapter 625: Chapter 622: Discovered?

To ensure nothing went wrong, Chou Rong had Yin Ze guard Wanwan without leaving her side. If any sudden danger arose, Yin Ze could whisk her away at a moment’s notice.

Meanwhile, Chou Rong himself personally led the other Orange Rank males. They established a tight defensive line around the perimeter of Bai Wanwan’s temporary observation post, remaining vigilant for threats from any direction.

Yin Ze didn’t even ask a single question. He quickly blended into the forest, his speed so great that he only left a faint disturbance in the air where he had stood.

The distance wasn’t great, so in just a few breaths, Chou Rong’s tall figure appeared beside Bai Wanwan with a gust of wind, Yin Ze right alongside him.

His brow was slightly furrowed. His eyes immediately fell on Bai Wanwan, and only after confirming she was safe and sound did he ask in a low voice, "What is it, Wanwan?"

Bai Wanwan beckoned him over, passing him the tablet. Her fingertip tapped on the clear figure on the screen as her voice took on a cold edge, "Come and look. It’s Roger."

In truth, Chou Rong’s sharp gaze had already caught the image on the screen as he approached.

Just then, Roger, in the video feed, stopped in his tracks and turned toward the general direction of the reconnaissance device. The high-definition lens zoomed in on his detestable face, leaving no detail hidden.

An oppressive, icy aura instantly erupted from Chou Rong, and the very air around them seemed to freeze.

Staring at that face, he forced the words through his teeth, his voice carrying an ice-hard chill. "Is that the Beastman who took you last time?"

"Yes, that’s him," Bai Wanwan confirmed.

Although he had later learned from Xin Feng and the others that they had seriously wounded Roger, beating him half to death, the inability to personally punish the Beastman who had dared to covet and harm his mate remained a thorn in Chou Rong’s side.

Now, faced with his enemy, his eyes burned with hatred. The suppressed rage and killing intent practically burst forth from him.

Bai Wanwan keenly sensed the shift in his emotions. Before his aura could turn any more dangerous, she reached out and gently covered his tightly clenched fist with her warm, soft palm.

"Calm down, Chou Rong." Her voice was clear and calm, carrying a soothing power. "I think he likely holds a high position within this faction. Perhaps we can use the reconnaissance device to follow him secretly, trace the clues back to their source, and find their lair, or even uncover a bigger secret. But before we do, we absolutely cannot alert the enemy and arouse his suspicions."

Chou Rong took a deep breath, forcefully suppressing the dark killing intent that surged in his eyes.

’He knew Bai Wanwan was right, but letting Roger live was their greatest threat.’

After a long moment, he finally forced a heavy syllable from his throat. "Fine."

Just then, another figure swiftly darted back—it was Jin Yi, returning from a patrol of the perimeter.

He leaned in and asked curiously in a hushed voice, "Wanwan, how is it? Does that little bug work?"

Bai Wanwan composed herself and held the tablet out in front of him.

Jin Yi looked down. When he saw the crystal-clear face on the screen and could even faintly hear the muffled sound of Roger commanding the puppet Beastmen on the other end, the expression on his face changed in an instant.

"Damn it! So we really didn’t manage to kill him last time!"

Bai Wanwan shook her head. "It’s fine. Let him live a while longer. He’s still useful."

"Useful for what?"

"We can try to follow him to find who’s controlling these Beastmen from the shadows."

Jin Yi stared at the screen, listening to the sounds coming from it.

"This... this bug is that incredible?" he couldn’t help but murmur in amazement. "It’s just like... just like we’re standing right in front of them!"

The impact of this reconnaissance method, so far beyond his comprehension, was immense.

Watching Jin Yi’s reaction, the corners of Bai Wanwan’s mouth curved slightly into a smile.

’To a world still in the stage of a primitive tribal civilization, this product from the pinnacle of a technological one was truly god-like, a piece of ’black technology’.

’No matter how powerful the faction behind Roger was, or how strange their methods, they could never imagine that their every move was already being watched by Bai Wanwan and the others, all thanks to this inconspicuous "bug".’

’This was their greatest advantage right now. It might really let her find some useful clues and allow them to seize the initiative.’

He was instructing a Beastman beside him who seemed to be a leader, "Take these dozen or so Orange Rank males to the Tiger Clan. Find out what happened to the previous group of Beastmen."

"Yes..."

Just as the Beastman responded, Roger seemed to recall something and added, "Today, the Beast God..."

Bai Wanwan, Chou Rong, Jin Yi, and Yin Ze listened with rapt attention, trying to catch every word that might reveal a key piece of information.

However, at that critical moment, Roger’s words came to an abrupt halt.

Like the most alert cheetah in the jungle, he seemed to sense some intangible ripple in the air. His brow furrowed sharply as he shot a hand up, gesturing for silence and high alert.

On the screen, Roger’s face was so clear that even the flicker of doubt in his eyes was visible.

"Wait!" His voice was sharp and wary. "You lot, check the surroundings. Be thorough!"

The order was given, and the five imposing Beastmen beside him immediately scattered like ghosts. They silently melted into the dense bushes and tall trees with astonishing speed, beginning a thorough search of the area.

"This is bad!" Chou Rong hissed, his reaction lightning-fast.

Without a shred of hesitation, he made a snap decision. "Jin Yi, take Wanwan and fall back! All males, retreat immediately! Follow the planned route and stay silent!"

The command was concise and efficient.

Jin Yi swept Bai Wanwan securely onto his back, while Yin Ze, like the sharpest of sentinels, instantly moved toward the direction where they were most likely to be spotted, ready to intercept the enemy or create a diversion to cover their retreat.

The other Orange Rank males, also well-trained, retreated swiftly and silently toward the pre-arranged safe point, melting away like drops of water into the ocean without leaving any obvious trace.

The picture on the tablet screen remained steady, as the bug-shaped drone was motionless. But the audio clearly picked up the searchers’ footsteps and the RUSTLE of parting foliage.

Bai Wanwan’s heart pounded like a drum. She stared intently at the screen, subconsciously holding her breath.

Roger’s men were extremely efficient. They searched the vicinity thoroughly, and a few of them even passed alarmingly close to the reconnaissance device’s hiding spot.

A moment later, they returned one by one and reported to Roger, "No Beastmen nearby."

"No tracks found."

Roger remained where he was, the doubt on his face not quite gone.

He waved his subordinates away, but the feeling of being watched hadn’t completely disappeared. It was like a tiny needle, faintly pricking at his nerves.
