Chapter 601: Chapter 598: None of Her Males Are to Be Trifled With
Bai Wanwan knew Hua Han had made the sound on purpose, and she glanced sideways at him.
Hua Han blinked his alluring eyes, a flicker of guilt in them.
Bai Wanwan didn’t blame him. ’Since we’ve been exposed, there’s no point in just standing here and watching the show anymore.’
She slowly emerged from behind the trees, her steps unhurried and her expression serene.
When Yan Lie saw Bai Wanwan slowly approaching without a word of accusation, he was terrified. He scrambled to her side and stammered out an explanation. "Wanwan, listen to me, I don’t know her. Really! The clan just wanted to pair me with her in the past, but I never, ever agreed! I swear!"
He was so frantic that beads of sweat broke out on his forehead.
Hua Ying had regained her footing by now. Watching Yan Lie’s flustered state in front of that female, her heart ached with a bitter jealousy.
’She already knew Yan Lie is a powerful Red Rank Male. If I can make the Holy Female, Bai Wanwan, despise him because of this... I might have a chance.’
She composed herself and met Bai Wanwan’s gaze directly. The other female was indeed stunningly beautiful, possessing an ethereal quality, but Hua Ying didn’t consider herself inferior.
She lifted her chin slightly, a subtle hint of defiance in her eyes, and began, "Holy Female Bai Wanwan, you may not be aware, but before Yan Lie became your partner, he and I... we were about to be mated."
Bai Wanwan nodded at her words, about to make it clear that she had no intention of getting involved and would let Yan Lie handle it himself.
But Yan Lie had already moved, using his towering frame to completely shield Bai Wanwan behind him like the sturdiest of shields.
A sudden rage surged through him, and he glared at the female before them.
’My Wanwan is so wonderful. I only earned the right to stay by her side because I fell for her and chased her relentlessly.’
’The business with Hua Ying was just a suggestion from the clan, nothing was ever set in stone.’
His fierce protectiveness wouldn’t allow him to stand by and watch his female be baselessly accused.
He turned to face Hua Ying, his expression colder than ever, his gaze as sharp as a blade. His voice was laced with suppressed rage and a definitive warning. "I made myself perfectly clear just now! Even if Wanwan didn’t exist, I would *never* have mated with you! That was just the clan’s wishful thinking; it had nothing to do with me. And Hua Ying, don’t you dare think for a second that I, Yan Lie, am some mild-mannered male!"
He paused, his tone growing even colder, laced with the threat of expulsion. "If you dare spout any more nonsense and anger my Wife, I will immediately have you and all of your Beast Husbands thrown out of the Tiger Clan! I keep my promises!"
"You... you’d really kick me out?" Hua Ying was stunned by his merciless words, her beautiful eyes wide with disbelief.
The outside world was in chaos and fraught with danger. The Tiger Clan was a rare safe haven, and she couldn’t bear to imagine the consequences of being expelled.
She had only dared to approach Yan Lie after learning he had become a powerful Red Rank Male. Fueled by resentment and vanity, she had hoped to rekindle their connection, and deep down, she even harbored the secret thought that if Bai Wanwan rejected him over this, she might be able to take her place.
But she had never imagined that Bai Wanwan would be so composed, or that Yan Lie would protect that female as if she were the apple of his eye, even threatening her, his once-potential mate, with such harsh words.
Seeing Yan Lie’s cold, unyielding expression, Hua Ying was genuinely scared. Her face paled and her lips trembled. A mix of indignation, fear, and shame swirled within her, causing her eyes to redden further as tears threatened to fall.
Hua Han, also of the Fox Clan, had been watching silently from the side. He now let out a soft sigh.
His voice was quiet, carrying the gentle, admonishing tone of an older brother from her own clan. "Hua Ying."
Through blurry, tear-filled eyes, Hua Ying looked at him. She recognized him as Hua Han, a male from her clan who was very popular with the females. She had once considered mating with him herself, but Hua Han was always away and nowhere to be found.
Hua Han’s gaze was calm, but his tone was earnest. "Give up on these ideas you shouldn’t be having. You saw Yan Lie’s feelings quite clearly just now. He was never interested in you, and now he is Wanwan’s Beast Husband. Their bond is deep; no one can break it."
He paused, his voice dropping lower with a note of warning. "It’s a blessing for us Fox Clan Beastmen to be able to live safely in the Tiger Clan. You know what it’s like out there. Is it worth gambling your and your partners’ foothold here for a male who will never be yours? Cherish what you have and live your own life. That is the wisest choice."
Hua Han’s words were like a bucket of cold water dumped on the burning resentment in Hua Ying’s heart.
She stared blankly at Hua Han, then glanced over at Yan Lie, who was paying her no mind at all, his anxious gaze fixed only on Bai Wanwan.
The harsh reality laid bare before her made her understand that this powerful male was far beyond her reach.
She stubbornly pressed her lips together and lowered her head, her shoulders slumping in defeat...
Seeing that Hua Ying was intimidated and had been placated by Hua Han, Yan Lie couldn’t be bothered to spare her another glance.
He turned his gaze timidly toward Bai Wanwan. The cold fury he’d shown Hua Ying instantly melted into nervous deference. He softened his voice, adopting a placating, wheedling tone. "Wanwan, let’s go back, okay? There’s really nothing between her and me. Don’t get upset over some unimportant Beastman, please?"
When he finished, Bai Wanwan didn’t respond right away, merely looking at him with her clear, cool eyes. His heart dropped, and a prickling sensation spread across his scalp.
Just as he, thinking Bai Wanwan was so angry she would ignore him, frantically reached out to grab her and swear his devotion...
"Okay, let’s go back."
Bai Wanwan gave a faint smile and turned to head back.
But Yan Lie still trailed nervously beside her, his heart pounding with anxiety.
’The problem between Yan Lie and that female stemmed from the Leopard Clan and the Fox Clan dragging their feet and never officially clarifying things. I can understand why Hua Ying is upset. As long as she behaves herself here, I won’t go out of my way to make things difficult for her.’
"You should head back now, too," Hua Han said to Hua Ying. "I’ll let it slide today, but don’t show your face in front of my female again. If you make her angry a second time, I don’t know if Yan Lie will spare you, but I... most certainly will not."
Hua Han’s tone wasn’t as furious or cold as Yan Lie’s; it was even accompanied by the hint of a smile.
But it sent a chill down Hua Ying’s spine. Her face paled and her lips trembled, but in the end, she didn’t dare utter a single word.
After walking a few steps, Bai Wanwan noticed Hua Han hadn’t caught up. She looked back. "Hua Han?"
Hua Han’s eyes narrowed menacingly, but the moment he heard his female’s voice, he immediately turned to look at her, his alluring eyes instantly filling with a smile. "Coming, Wanwan."
With that, he took a few long strides and fell into step beside her.
Yan Lie frantically blinked at him as he drew near, his meaning obvious.
Hua Han was on good terms with Yan Lie, so he was willing to do him the favor.
