Chapter 556 - 553: I’ll Do My Best to Satisfy You
Chapter 556: Chapter 553: I’ll Do My Best to Satisfy You
A glimmer of joy appeared in Bai Wanwan’s eyes when she saw him react.
She did her best to make her voice and expression appear gentle and harmless, whispering to the wary, anxious Hua Han, "Don’t be afraid. You can tell me where it hurts, or what you want to do."
A flicker of something passed through Hua Han’s vacant eyes, but he was mostly dazed, instinctively shrinking away.
Bai Wanwan was incredibly patient. She had already been imagining the worst-case scenario.
For Hua Han to return to her side like this, needing only time to heal... she felt no resentment, only immense gratitude.
She was grateful for the chance to atone for her mistake.
She tightened her grip on the hand he tried to pull away and smiled at him.
Slowly, the look on Hua Han’s face grew calm once more.
Bai Wanwan glanced around the cold, damp cave, her brow furrowed in a deep frown.
The conditions here were terrible. The air was thick with the smell of mildew, which would do nothing to help Hua Han’s recovery.
"Yan Lie," she said, turning to him as he blocked the other female, Ah Lo. "Go see this tribe’s Clan Leader. Use our supplies to trade for the cleanest, most spacious stone house you can. We need a better place for Hua Han to recover."
Yan Lie nodded and immediately turned to leave.
He was incredibly fast. It wasn’t long before he returned, the matter already settled.
The small tribe was short on supplies, so Yan Lie had simply promised to hunt twenty large beasts for them. In exchange, the old Clan Leader had agreed to clear out his best stone house.
However, just as Bai Wanwan was coaxing Hua Han to his feet to move, the female named Ah Lo rushed forward excitedly. She blocked the cave entrance, her face a mask of resentment.
"Clan Leader! That’s the male I found! Why didn’t you drive them all away?" Ah Lo yelled at the old Clan Leader, who had hurried over. Her voice was thick with tears and accusation.
The old Clan Leader looked troubled, trying to placate her. "Ah Lo, stop causing trouble! This is the Holy Female of the Tiger Clan Tribe! She’s that male’s true partner!"
"I’m the one who found him by the river! If it wasn’t for me, he would’ve been swept away by the current or eaten by wild beasts! I saved him!"
Ah Lo shouted stubbornly, tears welling in her eyes. "You can’t just take him away!"
She wasn’t wrong.
Bai Wanwan sighed to herself, truly grateful to this female for having saved Hua Han.
She motioned for Zhu Xiu and the others to wait, deciding to talk to Ah Lo herself—at the very least, to offer her a proper thank you.
She had barely moved to walk toward Ah Lo when, unexpectedly, a cold, somewhat weak hand suddenly gripped her wrist, holding on tight.
Surprised, Bai Wanwan looked down and met Hua Han’s eyes.
He still hadn’t spoken, and his eyes remained just as vacant and dazed. It was as if he didn’t understand the argument happening around them, but he instinctively, stubbornly, clung to her hand, refusing to let go like a drowning man clutching a piece of driftwood.
Bai Wanwan’s heart instantly melted.
She gently patted the back of his cold hand, her voice so gentle it could have been made of water. "I’m not leaving. I’m staying right here. I’m just going to say a few words to the female who saved you. I’ll be right back, alright?"
But Hua Han’s fingers remained clenched, even tightening their grip at her attempt to leave.
He continued to watch her in silence, a hint of panic, of the fear of being abandoned, hidden in the depths of his eyes.
Bai Wanwan felt a mix of helplessness and a sharp pang of heartache.
After a moment’s thought, she simply switched her grip to hold his large hand and tried to lead him. "Then... why don’t you come with me? We can go thank her together, alright?"
She wasn’t sure if he could understand her, but she patiently, slowly, guided him toward the female, Ah Lo.
Surprisingly, though his movements were sluggish, Hua Han actually followed her step-for-step, slowly walking out of the cave.
Outside, the old Clan Leader was still trying to talk some sense into Ah Lo. "Are you blind? Can’t you see what powerful experts those males are? Are they people we can afford to provoke? Besides, the male you found has a Wife!"
Ah Lo’s lips were pressed together, her head lowered stubbornly as she muttered in protest, "But I saved him... If his life was so good, why would he show up here all alone and so badly injured? Maybe his Wife is the one who treats him poorly..."
Her words infuriated the old Clan Leader. He looked up and saw Bai Wan leading Hua Han out, and he immediately grew flustered, terrified of causing a misunderstanding.
Bai Wanwan waved her hand, signaling that he didn’t need to be so tense.
"It’s alright, Clan Leader."
Her gaze shifted to Ah Lo, her tone calm. "Clan Leader, I’d like to speak with Ah Lo alone, if I may."
"But..." The Clan Leader hesitated, worried Ah Lo would say something even more offensive.
"It’s alright," Bai Wanwan assured him. "I feel nothing but gratitude toward her; I won’t hurt her. There are just some things that need to be made clear."
"Very well, then." The Clan Leader sighed and slowly backed away, though he stayed just close enough to overhear, clearly still uneasy.
Ah Lo’s gaze, however, never left Hua Han. Her expression dimmed even further when she saw how tightly he was holding Bai Wanwan’s hand.
In a final, desperate plea, her voice choked with tears as she asked Hua Han, "She treated you so poorly and let you get this hurt. Do you... do you still love her? Are you really going to go with her?"
Hua Han didn’t react at all, as if he hadn’t heard her, or perhaps the words simply couldn’t penetrate the chaos in his mind.
He only tightened his grip on Bai Wanwan’s hand subconsciously, his tall frame even leaning slightly closer to her in a posture of dependence and seeking protection.
Bai Wanwan clearly felt the fragile dependence coming from the male beside her. She squeezed his cold hand firmly, trying to transmit a sense of security to him.
Her gaze then turned calmly to Ah Lo. "Ah Lo, no matter what you say or think, he is my Beast Husband. That is an unchangeable fact. I will not abandon him, much less give him to anyone else. I am taking him home."
"But..." Ah Lo’s tears finally fell. "You let him get hurt! You failed to protect him!"
Those words were like a needle, piercing right through to the guilt in Bai Wanwan’s heart.
It was true. Her carelessness and the misunderstanding between her and Hua Han had led to him leaving in a fit of pique and running into danger.
’She’d made a mistake, and she had to own it.’
So, without a hint of defensiveness, Bai Wanwan admitted frankly, "Yes, I was at fault. I didn’t handle things well, and I put him in danger. So... I will do everything in my power to heal him. Once he’s better, I’ll talk with him properly and clear up the misunderstanding between us."
She paused, looking at the female before her. "Ah Lo, you saved him. You gave him a second life, and for that, I am truly, deeply grateful. Aside from giving him up, you can ask for anything else you wish. As long as it’s something I can do, I will do my utmost to fulfill it."
