Chapter 540: Chapter 537: This Accompaniment Is a Doom of 10,000 Kalpas

Gradually, Bai Wanwan’s eyelids grew too heavy to lift. Her breathing became even and deep as she fell into a sound sleep.

Chou Rong’s rough, large hands, however, did not stop. He continued to massage her waist with the gentlest of touches.

Moonlight spilled in through the window, bathing her tranquil, sleeping face in a silvery glow.

He gazed at her small, fair face. His heart, which had never wavered even through countless battles, had now become utterly tender for her.

He had never imagined that one day, a female would come to occupy his entire heart.

In his experience, females were delicate and troublesome—creatures that needed protection, but with whom one should not become too intimate.

Yet Bai Wanwan had barged in, forceful and undeniable.

When she first gave birth to a litter of his cubs, he had thought it was merely an accident, that there would be no further connection between them.

However, the memory of that night was like a stubborn vine, winding itself around his heart again and again.

He would remember the glint of tears in her eyes, her subtle trembling, and especially the memory of her later in the clan, chin held high, her proud expression as she pretended not to know him at all.

Her behavior had made him both angry and resentful, yet he found himself unable to stop her image from being etched deep into his heart.

When they met again, she had mistaken him for her Beast Husband.

He didn’t know what game the female was playing, but, as if possessed, he found himself willing to play along.

And once he started, there was no turning back.

By the time he realized what was happening, her image had already left a deep and indelible mark on his heart.

Now, listening to her steady breathing and feeling the warm, soft skin beneath his fingertips, an unprecedented sense of contentment and gratitude filled his chest.

’The Beast God must have shown him favor to bring her to his side.’

He lifted his left hand, his broad, thick palm stroking her cheek with an almost greedy tenderness, large enough to envelop her entire small face.

The pads of his fingers gently caressed her smooth skin as his gaze lingered lovingly on her eyes, the bridge of her nose, and her red lips. No matter how much he looked, he could never get enough.

He watched her quietly, his gaze filled with a devotion he himself didn’t realize was there, so still he might as well have been a statue.

Just then, however, the door was pushed open a fraction, ever so quietly.

Hearing the sound, Chou Rong’s sharp gaze instantly shot toward the door. When he saw it was Xin Feng, the fierce aura around him softened.

He carefully slid his arm out from under Bai Wanwan’s neck and tucked the silk quilt around her before getting up and heading out the door.

"Asleep?" Xin Feng asked in a low voice, glancing into the room.

"Yeah, she just fell sound asleep." Chou Rong’s voice was also hushed, carrying a hint of hoarseness that spoke of deep satisfaction.

Xin Feng smiled knowingly. He could tell at a glance what sort of passion Wanwan had just experienced.

"I just got Aunt Shuang settled in. She’s in the vacant stone house to the west. Everything’s been prepared for her."

Only now did Chou Rong have a chance to ask about the female elder who had arrived so suddenly.

The two moved to the outer room, where Xin Feng recounted the events of their journey. He explained how they had met Shuang Hua, who she was, how Bai Wanwan had been persecuted by her own biological Mother, and how Shuang Hua had protected her. He finished by explaining that Wanwan had insisted on bringing her back to the clan.

"...so that’s the situation. Wanwan is the Flood Dragon Clan Leader’s only daughter, yet she’s suffered such misfortune. Even though Aunt Shuang isn’t her birth mother, she’s treated her better than family. Wanwan is grateful, so she brought her back here to look after her."

Chou Rong listened in silence. His stoic face was hard to read in the flickering firelight, but a pang of heartache for what Bai Wanwan had endured flashed in his eyes.

He nodded, his voice deep. "I understand."

He decided then and there. First thing tomorrow morning, he would send his most capable Beastmen to quarry the finest stone. On a sunny slope not far from their own home, he would have them build a new stone house for Shuang Hua—sturdy, spacious, warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

’He would never neglect those whom his female held dear.’

Bai Wanwan slept so soundly that by the time she awoke the next day, sunlight was already pouring through the wide balcony doors, filling the bedroom.

Her first sensation upon waking was that her entire body felt as if it had been taken apart and put back together wrong. Every muscle ached, especially her slender waist, which was painfully sore.

The moment she tried to prop herself up with her arms, she couldn’t help but suck in a sharp breath. "SSS!"

It felt as if she hadn’t exercised in ages and had suddenly been put through an incredibly high-intensity workout. Every inch of her muscles was protesting, screaming to go on strike. The slightest movement was met with a sharp, aching rebellion.

"That... unrestrained beast..."

She muttered under her breath, her cheeks warming slightly.

Not daring to push her luck, she focused her thoughts and quickly redeemed a pill from her system that would rapidly restore her stamina and relieve muscle soreness. She swallowed it down.

The pill worked incredibly fast. A warm current spread through her entire body, dispelling all discomfort.

She let out a long sigh of relief, feeling like she was finally "alive" again.

Beneath her was a massive, three-meter-wide wooden bed, covered with a soft, smooth silk quilt. She rolled around contentedly in the plush bedding, enjoying a lazy moment all to herself.

The sunlight was pleasantly warm, and the air was filled with a peaceful, quiet stillness.

After lazing in bed for a while longer, her thoughts turned to the cubs and Aunt Shuang, whom she’d just brought back. Only then did she finally throw back the covers and get up.

After quickly washing up, she changed into a comfortable, long cotton dress.

The moment she opened her door, her legs were swarmed by a pack of fluffy little furballs.

"Mother! Mother, you’re awake!"

"Mother, where did you go? I missed you so much!"

"Mother, hugs!"

The cubs chirped and chattered as they surrounded her, tilting their little heads up. Their clear eyes were filled with affection and longing.

’In her past life,’ she thought, ’this scene would be straight out of an adorable petting zoo.’

But Bai Wanwan’s heart was simply overflowing with tenderness. These little creatures, all different shapes and sizes yet equally adorable, were her precious babies, connected to her by blood.

Smiling, she knelt and pulled one into her arms for a kiss, then picked up another for a nuzzle, doing her best to give each of them equal affection so no one felt left out.

She took a moment to identify them all. The oldest, a wolf cub and a tiger cub, already looked quite majestic. They stood like loyal little guards closest to her. While they didn’t pounce on her as energetically as their younger siblings, the adoration in their eyes was just as intense.

Meanwhile, some of the younger or more introverted cubs hovered on the outer edge of the group, watching her with a mixture of shyness and longing.

"The outside world is very dangerous, so Mama couldn’t take you all with me."

she explained patiently, stroking the heads of the wolf and tiger cubs. "Only when my babies are strong enough to face the dangers and hardships of the outside world can you go wherever you please. Okay?"

"Really? We just have to get strong?" a little leopard cub asked excitedly.
