Chapter 418: Chapter 418: Is This the Right Thing to Do?

Xin Feng looked at the half-grown cub cradled in his mate’s arms and sighed softly, his gaze impossibly tender.

The wolf cub was curled up in Bai Wanwan’s arms, breathing evenly. The wounds on its body had already scabbed over, though its ears would still twitch restlessly in its sleep from time to time.

She was humming a lullaby with a strange yet beautiful melody, her fingers gently combing through the cub’s fur. Every so often, she would lower her head to kiss its forehead.

Xin Feng lifted the animal-skin blanket and silently lay down beside them.

The stone bed wasn’t spacious, but he could always find the perfect spot.

A spot where he wouldn’t crowd the cub, but could still pull his mate into his embrace.

The night wind seeped in through the cracks of the stone window, carrying the unique, damp scent of the forest.

Bai Wanwan leaned closer into his embrace, her voice soft with drowsiness. "Why aren’t you asleep yet?"

"I can’t sleep. You go ahead and sleep, don’t worry about me."

He lowered his head, his nose brushing against the crown of her head. He loved the unique sweet scent about her, like colorful spring flowers and sweet summer fruits.

In that moment, he was overcome with bliss!

Two years ago, he was an outcast, abandoned by his clan. Even hunting was a struggle for him.

He would have most likely grown old alone, curled up in the darkest corner of the tribe to die in silence.

Until the day Wanwan appeared and pulled him from that world of darkness.

And now...

She had become his mate, giving him a warm home and a happy life.

He cherished all of this immensely, and if any Beastman tried to destroy it, he would risk his life to protect it.

Bai Wanwan was truly exhausted. It wasn’t long before her eyelids began to feel heavy.

A moment later, he heard her breathing evenly.

Xin Feng’s gentle gaze rested on her face as he reached out to touch it. "Wanwan, thank you!"

Utterly oblivious, Bai Wanwan shifted in her sleep, turning her back to him.

Xin Feng chuckled and shook his head. He turned onto his side, wrapped an arm around his mate’s waist, and closed his eyes.

Though she had expected a restless night, Bai Wanwan slept soundly until broad daylight. As usual, the male beside her was already awake and gone.

Only she and the cub, sleeping sprawled out next to her, were left.

She saw the wolf cub sleeping soundly, its mouth agape. Its wounds looked much better.

After a quick check, she gently turned to get out of bed.

Her feet had just touched the ground when the wolf cub’s voice came from behind her, "Mama..."

When Bai Wanwan turned back, the wolf cub had shifted into his human form and was sitting on the bed, rubbing his eyes.

In human years, the wolf cub looked to be about eight or nine years old.

His face was a collection of his parents’ best features, already showing an uncommon handsomeness at his young age.

"My sweet cub, you’re awake? Are you hungry?"

The wolf cub rubbed his stomach; he felt like he could devour an entire hunted beast.

"Hungry. Mama, I’ll go find something to eat."

The wolf cub leaped from the bed to the floor. Compared to yesterday, he was like a completely different beast.

He had clearly recovered well, and a weight was finally lifted from her heart.

By the time she had gotten ready, the cubs had all eaten and drunk their fill.

The Beast Husbands hadn’t started their work for the day either; they were all waiting for her.

"We’re going today?" Zhu Xiu asked.

"Yes, we’re going today. The wolf cub has recovered, and it’s time to settle this score."

In the end, only Yin Ze, who was supposed to be on duty today, was left to look after the cubs. Chou Rong had already left to handle clan affairs.

Bai Wanwan, along with Zhu Xiu, Yan Lie, Jin Yi, and Xin Feng, and the still-recovering wolf cub, came to stand before the stone house of Ah Man, a female of the Tiger Clan.

When the door was pushed open, Ah Man was sitting on a stone stool, gnawing on a Deer Fruit. She looked up and saw several tall, handsome, unfamiliar males standing outside. An infatuated look spread across her plain face. "Are you... looking for me?"

Watching the woman’s shameless display, Bai Wanwan stepped out from behind her Beast Husbands.

"That’s right. We’re here for you."

When Ah Man saw Bai Wanwan, her expression changed, and she blurted out, "Who are you? Why are you with them?"

’Any one of these beastmen was desirable enough for females to fight over. Could they all be this female’s Beast Husbands?’

Bai Wanwan looked at her coldly, her voice calm but with a chill to it. "You should know full well what ’good deeds’ your beast husband and cubs performed two days ago, right?"

These words snapped Ah Man out of her wild thoughts. "You’re that cub’s Mother?"

"Yes."

The female named Ah Man wasn’t afraid. Instead, she raised her chin and said with a forced, lighthearted laugh, "It was just a squabble between cubs. Your cub couldn’t beat mine, so who can you blame?"

"A squabble?" Zhu Xiu’s voice was frigid, his scarlet vertical pupils revealing his killing intent. "Using Mama Grass on a cub, you call that a squabble?"

Yan Lie roared, "Why don’t you call your cubs out and let them ’squabble’ one more time?"

Ah Man’s expression faltered, and she immediately made an excuse: "The cubs went out to play, they’re not home!"

Bai Wanwan stared at her for two seconds, then suddenly smiled. "Fine."

She turned and left with her Beast Husbands and the wolf cub.

Ah Man curled her lip and muttered under her breath, "Just some outsiders. How dare they cause trouble in the Tiger Clan..."

But what she didn’t expect was that Bai Wanwan had no intention of letting the matter drop.

Zhu Xiu’s tracking skills were superb.

Soon, they found the cubs playing in the bushes at the edge of the tribe.

They were smugly bragging about stealing the prey from the wolf cub, completely unaware of the approaching danger.

Bai Wanwan crouched down and gently stroked her wolf cub’s head. "Go on, my cub."

The wolf cub looked at the other cubs, who were much smaller than him, and hesitated.

He’d grown up in a loving family. His younger brothers and sisters, though mischievous, had never hurt one another.

When he first saw them, they reminded him of his own younger siblings, and he had even considered giving them the prey.

Bai Wanwan saw his hesitation and said in a low voice, "Kindness has its place. But you can’t show mercy to those who hurt you, no matter how old they are. If you do, others will take advantage of your kindness to hurt you again and again."

’My cub can be kind, but that kindness should be reserved for family and close friends, not for those who would hurt him.’

The wolf cub’s ears twitched, and the scene from that day flashed through his mind.

He had been unable to move, only able to whimper and beg for mercy, but the other cubs had just gotten more and more excited, tearing at his fur and even deliberately biting his paws...

’Mother was right. They weren’t his brothers and sisters. They were bad beast-cubs!’

The look in the wolf cub’s eyes sharpened. A low growl rumbled in his throat, and then he lunged forward!

He didn’t go for the kill, but every bite landed exactly where he had been bitten.

The tiger cubs screamed in terror, wanting to run, but they were immobilized by Zhu Xiu’s oppressive aura and couldn’t move.

After biting each of them, the wolf cub ran back to Bai Wanwan’s side. "Mother, was what I did right?"
