Chapter 382: Chapter 382: Tearing Off Her Disguise

"Wanwan, don’t look at him. Look at me." Yan Lie shifted over, blocking her line of sight.

Bai Wanwan was helpless against him, so she could only try to placate him. "Chou Rong must need to talk to me about something. Why don’t you go check on the cubs for me? I’ll come find you in a little while."

"Then give me a kiss."

Resigned, Bai Wanwan could only cup his face and give him another kiss.

Only then was Yan Lie satisfied, and he left, looking back over and over again.

Once Yan Lie’s figure had disappeared around the wall, Bai Wanwan slowly walked toward Chou Rong.

"Why are you out here? You’re so badly injured. Why aren’t you resting and recovering?"

As she spoke, she reached out to support him.

"You’ve had cubs for all of them?"

"No, I haven’t had Yin Ze’s yet."

After she said this, she noticed Chou Rong looking at her with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile.

It dawned on Bai Wanwan immediately, and she quickly tried to cover her tracks. "Xin Feng told me."

Chou Rong looked at her stunning, delicate face. He wanted to rip away her facade and force her to reveal her true self.

He wouldn’t let her keep playing dumb and making a fool of him.

"Bai Wanwan... you think I’m that easy to fool, don’t you?" Chou Rong’s eyes narrowed dangerously.

"What are you talking about?" she asked, blinking guiltily. "What did I lie to you about?"

But even though she felt guilty, she didn’t let it show. To Chou Rong, she looked exactly the same as she had back in the Cat Clan Tribe, when she had so calmly and composedly deceived him.

How infuriating!

"You can’t remember? Then let’s review it slowly... and settle the score."

Hearing the gnashing fury in his voice, Bai Wanwan became even more convinced that she couldn’t admit to anything.

’If I don’t admit it, I can still claim innocence because of my amnesia.’

’If I admit it, he’ll probably kill me, right?’

"Er, okay. What did you want to tell me?" Her eyes were crystal clear, as if she truly had no idea what he was talking about.

Chou Rong grabbed her chin, tilting her face up. "You had this exact same expression back then when you said you had no idea what I was talking about. Do you really think I’ll believe you now?"

’It doesn’t matter if he believes me or not; I just can’t admit it.’

’If I admit it, I’m afraid he’ll strangle me to death right here and now.’

She raised a hand to grip his arm, deliberately squeezing a few tears from her eyes. "Then go ahead, strangle me. I don’t remember anything anyway. If you hate me, if you want revenge, then just take it!"

Bai Wanwan steeled herself. ’The angriest he’d ever been was back when the cubs first came looking for him.’

’He didn’t kill me then, so would he really kill me now?’

So, she decided to take a gamble.

She was betting that Chou Rong was only trying to scare her, to expose her act of amnesia.

But there were too many grievances between them. ’I need to make him fall for me before I can "recover" my memory.’

She lifted her chin, a stubborn glint in her eyes as her gaze locked with Chou Rong’s, refusing to back down.

Looking at Bai Wanwan like this, Chou Rong felt something subtle shift within him.

He could see right through other females at a glance.

But Bai Wanwan alone always seemed shrouded in a veil, utterly different from any other female.

He had once thought about simply biting this female who dared to scheme against him to death.

He had spared her then, and now, she had appeared again.

And just like before, she was able to stir up his emotions.

His finger brushed past the corner of her eye, coming away damp.

"Bai Wanwan, I don’t care if you’ve really forgotten or if you’re just faking it. You’ve provoked me twice now. Until I say we’re done, you’re not allowed to let go. Understand?"

There was no trace of gentleness in his eyes; in fact, his gaze was downright chilling.

But looking at his face, Bai Wanwan’s heart inexplicably skipped a beat.

She rose onto her tiptoes, drawing close to his lips. "Alright, alright. Only you get to call it quits."

’What else could I do?’

’I’ve already given him a whole litter of cubs, and besides, I was the one who initiated things with him this second time.’

’Besides, he’s got the total package, in terms of both ’software’ and ’hardware.’’

’Why would I want to call it quits?’

Getting his answer, Chou Rong clasped the back of her head with one hand and crushed his lips to hers.

By the time he pulled away, Bai Wanwan was panting for breath. Only then did she hear him say, "Bai Wanwan, you’re really something else. It’s been a little over a year, and how many Beast Husbands do you have now? How many more are you planning to collect?"

’This was a trick question!’

Bai Wanwan immediately shook her head with a bright smile. "No more, no more! You guys are already more than I can handle."

She really did feel like she had enough Beast Husbands. She wouldn’t be able to handle taking care of any more.

Her words clearly softened the sharp edge of his expression.

"Feeling better now? If so, you should go back and rest. Don’t forget, you’re still injured and need to recover properly."

Bai Wanwan supported him as they walked back, nagging him the entire way. "Your injuries are too severe. Don’t come out wandering around for the next few days."

Chou Rong didn’t say another word, simply listening quietly to her fussing.

Just as she helped him inside the house, a commotion erupted at the main gate.

"Brother Chief Chou Rong, what are you doing here? You’re injured?"

Upon seeing Chou Rong was injured, Feng Xi immediately pushed aside the Beastman blocking her path and rushed in with her own Beast Husband.

But as she neared Chou Rong, Bai Wanwan stepped in front of her, blocking her path.

"Move aside. I want to check on Brother Chief Chou Rong’s injuries."

Not only did Bai Wanwan refuse to move, she crossed her arms and eyed the other woman coolly. "He is my Beast Husband. I will take care of him myself, so you don’t need to concern yourself."

"So what if he’s your Beast Husband? I am a Holy Female. As long as Brother Chief Chou Rong likes me and is willing to leave with me, there’s nothing you can do about it."

Bai Wanwan’s lips curved into a smile. "Well, I’m afraid that’s too bad. I’m a Holy Female, too. So you can’t steal him away!"

Feng Xi’s smile froze. "You... you’re a Holy Female, too?"

"That’s right. So, right here, right now, get away from my Beast Husband."

Feng Xi pouted pitifully, looking past her to Chou Rong. "Brother Chief Chou Rong, can I speak with you alone for a moment?"

"No!"

"Alright."

Bai Wanwan’s and Chou Rong’s voices rang out at almost the same time.

Bai Wanwan whipped her head around. "What are you going to say to her?"

Chou Rong’s gaze swept across her face. "If I don’t make things clear with her, she’ll just keep coming back to bother you."

"And you think she’ll listen just because you say so?" Bai Wanwan scoffed. "What if you talk to her and she just keeps pestering you anyway?"

"She won’t."

Bai Wanwan wasn’t happy about it, but then she considered her own collection of Beast Husbands. ’If there was really something between Chou Rong and that woman, they would have gotten together long ago.’

So, after shooting Chou Rong a look, she turned and walked away.

She sat on a distant stone bench, watching the two of them standing together, whispering.

She wanted desperately to eavesdrop, but no matter how hard she strained her ears, she could only catch faint, indistinct words, unable to make out what they were actually saying.

After a long while, Feng Xi turned and ran off, her eyes red-rimmed. She didn’t even spare a moment to glare in Bai Wanwan’s direction.

Just then, Chou Rong’s gaze swept over. Bai Wanwan pretended not to care in the slightest and looked away.

But footsteps slowly approached, and soon, he sat down beside her.

"Angry?"

Bai Wanwan turned back to face him. "What did you just say to her?"
