Chapter 314: Chapter 314: Xin Feng Is Nearby

Bai Wanwan shouted as she turned over the bodies.

With every one she turned, a wave of terror washed over her.

When she saw it wasn’t Xin Feng, a sliver of hope would return.

Soon, her fingers were frozen red, but she stubbornly brushed the snow off every body, confirming that it wasn’t her Silver Wolf.

"Not him... this one isn’t him either..." she murmured to herself, her voice trembling more and more.

They had turned over nearly all the Beastman bodies in the area, but there was still no sign of Xin Feng.

"Bai Wanwan, you and your Beast Husband search around here. I’ll take the others and look further out."

Bai Wanwan’s face was pale, and her reactions were clearly a bit slower than usual.

"Okay. I’m counting on you."

Jin Yue sighed as he looked at her state.

’She’s a truly good female.’ He had never seen a female venture out in such severe cold, let alone brave a blizzard to search for her missing Beast Husband.

If they lost one Beast Husband, they could always find more.

But Bai Wanwan was different; she cherished each of her Beast Husbands.

Jin Yue sighed. Seeing her so determined, he felt inspired.

A resolve formed in his heart. ’I have to help Bai Wanwan find her Beast Husband.’

He led the other males to expand the search area, rummaging through the snow with great speed.

Ignoring the bitter cold, Bai Wanwan and Yan Lie went to search in another direction.

From the distance, calls of "Nothing over here!" and "Haven’t found him here either!" echoed from time to time.

With each passing moment, Bai Wanwan’s heart sank lower and lower.

She continued her search mechanically. Her eyes, stinging from staring at the snow for so long, began to water, and the tears quickly froze into tiny Ice Crystals on her cheeks.

’Xin Feng, you have to be okay!’

’I will find you!’

The sky gradually darkened, and lead-gray clouds pressed lower, seeming to herald another heavy snowfall.

After a long, long time, Jin Yue ran over, his expression heavy.

"Bai Wanwan, we need to go back. The Black Bear Tribe hasn’t retreated very far, and the temperature will plummet after dark. You won’t be able to stand it."

Bai Wanwan seemed not to hear him. Her gaze suddenly fell on the dark silhouette of the forest in the distance. "I want to go look over there."

"It’s too dangerous!" Jin Yue looked away from the forest and said urgently, "The Black Bear Clan could attack again at any moment! Besides, it’s even colder at night. You won’t be able to take it!"

Forget a female; even High Rank Males like them would find the nighttime weather difficult to endure.

Yan Lie was still scratching himself, but he remained steadfastly by Bai Wanwan’s side.

"Jin Yue, let’s look a little longer. If Wanwan really can’t stand the cold anymore, then we’ll go back."

He had just asked Wanwan several times. With the supplies from her system, she said she could endure it.

He didn’t want to see Xin Feng, who was like a brother to him, meet with a tragic fate.

So he wanted to trust Wanwan and keep searching. Who knew? Maybe they would find him.

An extremely troubled expression appeared on Jin Yue’s face. "Bai Wanwan, I hate to say this, but... so much time has passed. It’s highly likely that Xin Feng was taken by the Black Bear Tribe."

Bai Wanwan took a sharp breath. The thought had crossed her mind.

But she couldn’t give up without looking.

’What if?’

’What if Xin Feng was injured and hid to escape the Black Bear Beastmen pursuing him?’

"Just a little longer. If we don’t find him, I’ll go back with you."

Jin Yue glanced at the other Golden Lions, then finally sighed. "Alright. A little longer, but if we still don’t find anything, we must head back. We can’t let anything happen to you."

"Okay."

Bai Wanwan gave him a grateful nod, then climbed back onto Yan Lie’s back.

The group of Beastmen continued toward the forest, their pace much slower than it had been on the plains.

The trees grew denser, and tree roots and rocks hidden beneath the snow made the journey difficult.

Yan Lie’s breathing grew heavier. ’He’s so badly injured, yet he’s still out here with me looking for Xin Feng.’

Feeling guilty, she reached out and stroked the fur on his back. "Yan Lie, can you still hold on?"

Yan Lie turned his head and grinned at her. "Don’t worry about me. If you can handle it, Wanwan, then of course I can!"

As soon as he said that, he couldn’t resist the sudden, piercing itch and raised his paw to scratch his neck fiercely twice.

Noticing this, Bai Wanwan quickly reached out to block his paw. "Endure it! You already have too many wounds..."

She had applied the golden sore medicine time and again, only for him to quickly scratch it off.

At a time like this, she couldn’t be bothered with Points.

Points could always be earned again, but if a person was gone, then everything was lost.

So, even though she knew applying the golden sore medicine was a waste right now, she tirelessly applied it over and over again to stop Yan Lie from bleeding so much.

Thinking of Points, Bai Wanwan suddenly thought of Hua Sheng.

She knew that Hua Sheng was useless for anything other than the points mall.

But she had no other choice; it was a long shot, but she had to try.

’Hua Sheng...’ she called out to the system in her mind.

Hua Sheng quickly responded. "Host, I’m here."

Bai Wanwan immediately asked, "Can you sense where Xin Feng is?"

"Host, I can only confirm that he is in the nearby mountains, but I don’t know his specific location." Hua Sheng’s voice was apologetic. "There will be a tracking item after the system upgrades, but right now... there’s really no way I can help you."

Hearing this, Bai Wanwan’s eyes lit up. "You can sense him? Then do you know if he’s still alive?"

"Host, they are linked to you by quests, so I have a certain level of Perception. What I can tell you right now is that he is still alive."

The weight that had been hanging over Bai Wanwan’s heart finally lifted.

’As long as he’s alive!’

As long as there’s life, there’s hope.

She quickly turned her head, scanning her surroundings. The sky was already very dark.

For Beastmen, their vision was only slightly better than a human’s.

In the dim light, she still had to look very carefully to make anything out.

Suddenly, she noticed an unnatural trail in the bushes to her right, like a track had been scraped into the snow.

A little further on, a few branches were violently broken, and something seemed to be hanging from them.

"Over there!" She immediately pointed, her heart pounding like a drum.

Jin Yue sniffed the air warily. "There was a fight around here. I smell blood..."

They followed the trail and found drag marks and scattered drops of blood in the snow.

Bai Wanwan’s heart twisted into a knot. She was desperate to find Xin Feng quickly, yet terrified of what she might see.

The trail disappeared in front of a rock face.

Bai Wanwan slid off Yan Lie’s back and, ignoring the others’ attempts to stop her, pulled aside the dead vines in front of the rock face. Behind them was the entrance to a cave.

"Xin Feng?" she called softly, her voice echoing in the cave.

’This looks like a hiding place. If Xin Feng was injured and needed to hide, this place would be perfect.’

She hurried inside, calling Xin Feng’s name over and over...
