Delicate Villainess, Desperate Males – A Beast World Reverse Harem
Chapter 293: A Little Strange
Chapter 293: Chapter 293: A Little Strange
The Beastmen were momentarily at a loss for words.
Jin Yi spoke again. "I will do my best to drive away the Bear Clan Beastmen. If anyone still has grievances, you can come to me. Don’t take it out on a female."
Most of the males had simply been swept up in their anger, incited by others.
Now, hearing the Young Clan Leader accuse them of harassing a female, they all felt a pang of guilt.
Looking at the Young Clan Leader’s pale face, it was obvious he hadn’t rested well these past few days while fighting off the Bear Clan Beastmen.
Their guilt deepened, and one by one, like children who had done wrong, they answered in a scattered chorus.
"Okay..."
And just like that, Jin Yi had defused a crisis with just a few words.
Jin Yuan was unwilling to let it go, but she had suffered enough at Bai Wanwan’s hands. Plus, with Jin Yi backing Bai Wan, she didn’t dare do anything more and scurried away, hiding among the other Beastmen as she left.
She silently prayed that Bai Wanwan wouldn’t come after her to settle the score.
Only after all the clan’s Beastmen had left did Jin Yi slowly turn to face Bai Wanwan.
"I’m sorry. You must have been frightened."
Bai Wanwan concealed the anger in her eyes. Although she hadn’t said a word after Jin Yi appeared, she had been silently memorizing the faces of those Beastmen in the back.
She had never been some kind-hearted, innocent damsel. She held a grudge and repaid every slight.
She didn’t ask for much and never went out of her way to provoke people, yet these people provoked her time and time again.
The siege by the Bear Clan, the scarcity of food.
She understood the Beastmen were in a foul mood, but that didn’t give them the right to be incited by a few words and use her as a target.
She could ignore the ones who were merely incited, but she had already added the ringleaders to her little black book.
"It’s fine." Bai Wanwan forced a magnanimous smile.
At this point, there was really nothing more for the two of them to say.
But Jin Yi didn’t turn to leave. He gazed at the plot of land behind her. "Can this really keep the females and cubs from going hungry?"
"If we can successfully plant and harvest them, it shouldn’t be a problem."
Hope sparked in Jin Yi’s heart. "If you need help with anything, you can tell me directly."
"Mm, I won’t be shy about asking."
Jin Yi was about to say something more when he looked up and saw Xin Feng, who was standing beside Bai Wanwan, staring at him with a placid gaze.
The other man said nothing, yet Jin Yi felt as if his thoughts had been seen through completely.
Suppressing everything he wanted to say, he nodded at Xin Feng. "I have to lead the team out."
Xin Feng, with his arm around Bai Wanwan’s waist, nodded back at him.
Jin Yi didn’t linger, turning and striding away.
After watching Jin Yi leave, Xin Feng noticed that the gaze of the female in his arms seemed to be lingering on Jin Yi’s figure.
The hand around her waist tightened unconsciously. "Wanwan, what are you looking at?"
Bai Wanwan didn’t look away, instead furrowing her brow and tilting her head in thought.
"Don’t you think Jin Yi is acting a little strange?"
"Strange?"
’So that’s how Wanwan sees Jin Yi’s behavior—as strange.’
He chuckled softly, not exposing the truth.
’Whether Jin Yi liked Wanwan, and whether he could win her favor, was all up to him. He wouldn’t be the one to burst that bubble.’
Bai Wanwan didn’t say any more on the subject. Thinking of her intimacy with Jin Yi that day made her feel a little uncomfortable all over.
’Could it be... that Jin Yi is acting this way because of that incident...?’
"Mm, it’s nothing. I’m probably just overthinking it."
She pulled her thoughts back to the present, looking at the damp soil before her and praying that this time, the potatoes would grow successfully.
’If I’d known I was coming to the Beast World Continent to pioneer new lands, I would have studied up on agriculture.’
’Then I wouldn’t have to waste time with all this trial and error.’
She didn’t even know if potatoes needed watering; she just felt that the temperature had been too high the last time she planted, which was why they hadn’t grown well.
That was why she had been watering them every day, trying to cool them down.
But she was also afraid that if there was too much water, the potatoes would rot.
So, every day she only applied a shallow layer, which would evaporate quickly once the temperature rose.
After a few days of this, they seemed to be growing acceptably.
"Let’s go. It’s getting hot. Let’s go home so you don’t get baked by the sun."
Xin Feng supported her by the waist, his eyes on her gradually swelling belly.
’When this litter is born, there’ll be a few more cubs in the house.’
’Just the three of us Beast Husbands for the whole family... it’s still far from enough...’
Bai Wanwan was also lost in thought about the potatoes, not noticing the change in Xin Feng’s expression.
When they got home, the cubs seemed to be hungry again, circling and weaving around Bai Wanwan and Xin Feng’s legs.
"Be good now. Don’t bother your Mother. Father Beast will cut up some meat for you."
After herding the cubs into the house, Xin Feng turned to cut the meat.
He patiently fed it to the cubs, piece by piece.
Bai Wanwan sat on a nearby lounge chair, watching quietly.
She watched him feed all the young cubs, and she watched the cubs that had been so tiny at birth grow to nearly the size of lambs.
’Their appetites will only get bigger. If we don’t have enough food, we’ll really be in trouble!’
Just as she was pondering other ways to stockpile food, the wolf cub and the Cat Cub who were eating transformed in the blink of an eye into two plump, naked little toddlers.
"Mo... ah, Mo."
The two chubby toddlers mumbled a few indistinct sounds.
Bai Wanwan was overjoyed. She shot to her feet and beckoned to the two toddlers. "Come, let Mama hold you."
Having just transformed into their human forms, the two toddlers weren’t used to it yet and even tried to crawl on all fours.
Xin Feng gently steadied them, guiding them step by step toward Bai Wanwan.
After two or three steps, they grew steadier. Happy smiles blossomed on their beautiful little faces as they lunged for her legs.
"Mu... Ma..."
Their sweet, childish voices nearly melted Bai Wanwan’s heart.
Seeing his younger brothers transform and receive their Mother’s affection, the other wolf cub, who could already shapeshift, immediately transformed as well and came stumbling over, only to be swept into Bai Wanwan’s arms.
Seeing this, the few snake cubs grew agitated, slithering restlessly around the room as their forked tongues flickered in and out with a HISS HISS sound.
When she noticed, she beckoned to them as well.
When the cubs drew near, she gave each of them a kiss.
"You are all Mama’s precious babies. Your older brothers transformed a little earlier because they came out of Mama’s belly first. Now that they’ve transformed, it will be your turn soon."
Feeling their Mother’s unwavering love, the cubs’ restless hearts gradually calmed, and they affectionately rubbed against her legs.
Bai Wanwan let go of her worries, and a bright smile returned to her face.
Gradually, the sunlight filtering in through the doorway began to dim.
"Huh? Did time pass so quickly today?"
’Wait, that’s not right,’ she thought. ’We just got back from watering the plants and haven’t even had lunch. It can’t possibly be getting dark already.’
Just as she thought that, a muffled clap of thunder boomed overhead.
It startled the cubs, who started to WHIMPER and press themselves deeper into her embrace.
BOOM... BOOM...
The weather changed in an instant. Following the thunder, raindrops as large as beans began to fall.
Bai Wanwan’s expression changed drastically. She immediately stood up and asked Xin Feng.
"Is the rainy season here?"
’If the rainy season is here, what will happen to my potatoes?’
