Chapter 290: Chapter 290: An Emotion Called Jealousy

Xin Feng left the rest unsaid.

But all three males knew exactly what he was thinking.

If those Super Tribes were to learn of Wanwan’s abilities, they would undoubtedly use all their power to seize her.

At that point, they would never be able to settle in any tribe again. They would have to be constantly on guard against males appearing to seize Wanwan.

"Don’t worry. I get it. I won’t tell anyone besides you all."

The males’ expressions turned solemn. It was as if they were guarding a priceless treasure, terrified that other males would covet it.

"Wanwan, you just said you came from another world. In that world, did you have a Beast Husband?"

As Yan Lie spoke, he seemed to realize his wording was off and quickly corrected himself. "Not a Beast Husband... I mean, someone like us."

At his words, the other two males also refocused on her, their gazes holding the same curiosity and longing for an answer.

Yan Lie’s question sent Bai Wanwan into a momentary daze. A blurry figure flickered in her mind, but she quickly forced the image away.

She met her Beast Husbands’ gazes, a smile on her face as she shook her head. "No. In that world, I wasn’t married—um... I mean, mated. I only have you."

The males all let out a visible sigh of relief.

All that talking had made Bai Wanwan sleepy, and she couldn’t suppress a yawn.

Seeing her, Zhu Xiu spoke up. "It’s getting late. Wanwan is pregnant. We should all wash up and get some sleep."

Their minds were all heavy with the revelation, and they each needed time to process it.

It was Xin Feng’s turn to be with Wanwan tonight, and he saw that the female was already looking drowsy.

He stood, scooped her into his arms, and whispered softly, "Go to sleep. I’ll wash you and get you changed in a moment."

The tribe’s situation had been getting worse and worse lately. She’d been so preoccupied with planting the potatoes, constantly busy, that she hadn’t even taken an afternoon nap.

She had concentrated on talking with them for a while, and now, nestled in Xin Feng’s arms, a wave of sleepiness washed over her.

She let out a lazy "Mm," and allowed herself to drift off to sleep.

Xin Feng gently undressed her. He washed her with warm water, wiping her body completely clean before dressing her in soft, comfortable sleepwear.

In her hazy, half-asleep state, Bai Wanwan thought she heard someone whispering.

"Wanwan, we will risk our lives to protect you. Will you also stay with us forever?"

’Yes,’ Bai Wanwan wanted to answer. She had finally found her purpose in this world. Home was wherever they were.

To live happily with her family—that was her purpose for being in this world.

But it felt as if something was strangling her voice; she couldn’t make a sound, and her consciousness faded.

By the time she awoke, the sky was already bright.

Bai Wanwan rolled over. Xin Feng was no longer beside her.

She lazily hugged the blanket, inhaling Xin Feng’s clean scent that lingered on it.

She closed her eyes in satisfaction, continuing to rest.

Once the last traces of sleepiness had vanished, Bai Wanwan stretched lazily and sat up.

"Father Beast, Father Beast!"

"Father Beast, I want some too."

Hearing the cubs’ clamor, Bai Wanwan smiled, slipped on her shoes, and headed outside.

’My belly is starting to swell like a balloon again.’

’I’ve probably got twenty days at most before it’s time to pop.’

She ambled to the doorway and immediately spotted her three cubs in their humanoid forms, sitting on the ground. They were holding strips of meat and chewing on them with looks of pure satisfaction.

Sensing her presence, Zhu Xiu divided the rest of the meat strips among the cubs and walked over to Bai Wanwan.

In the Beast World, cubs usually only call their biological father "Father Beast."

This created a certain division within the family, a division the males tacitly accepted. After all, the cubs would soon head into the jungle to train, become independent, and eventually leave the family...

But Bai Wanwan didn’t want the cubs to feel distant from any of them, so she always made a point of guiding them to use the same title for all her husbands.

The three males, out of their love for her, adored the cubs she had borne. They never treated any of them differently, regardless of who the biological father was.

After they had eaten and drunk their fill, a commotion broke out outside.

Leaning on Zhu Xiu’s arm for support, Bai Wanwan led the cubs outside.

The scorching sun beat down on the tribe’s central plaza, where Bear Clan captives were tied to twelve rough Stone Pillars.

Their brown fur was soaked with sweat, giving it a greasy sheen under the sun.

As Bai Wanwan and Zhu Xiu passed by, a scarred-faced Bear Clan male suddenly bared his fangs at her.

"The little female is really beautiful." He struggled against the ropes, his thick muscles bulging under his beast hide. "When we trample this place flat, I’ll be the first to mate with you."

The other Bear Clan captives nearby joined in with coarse, wild laughter.

But their laughter died abruptly.

The male who had just harassed Bai Wanwan was now caught in the coils of a Snake Tail, his face already turning a deathly gray.

"H-help..."

A nearby Golden Lion guard hurried over, looking troubled. "Jin Cang Clan Leader gave orders," he said to Zhu Xiu, "that we are not to kill them for the time being."

Zhu Xiu’s eyes turned to him. "I’m not going to take his life."

As he finished speaking, the Golden Lion Tribe beastman saw him loosen his tail. Just as the guard was about to breathe a sigh of relief, the thick tail coiled tight once more.

"You..."

The Bear Clan Beastman stared in disbelief as he began to suffocate again.

Just as he thought he was done for, the long tail loosened once more.

"Snake Beast, you have the guts to let me go... I’ll..."

Before he could finish, crushing pressure returned to his torso, squeezing the air from his lungs and leaving him unable to speak.

This went on for nearly ten cycles. The nearby Golden Lion went from issuing nervous reminders to standing by in complete silence.

When Zhu Xiu finally released his tail, the Bear Clan Beastman was half-dead. He hung his head limply, all his earlier arrogance gone. He couldn’t even manage to utter a single syllable.

Seeing this, the other captives kept their eyes busy elsewhere. They didn’t dare make a sound, let alone risk a glance in Bai Wanwan’s direction.

Zhu Xiu’s method of fighting violence with violence was something she found herself liking a great deal; it was incredibly cathartic.

"Let’s go. It’s been pretty hot lately. Let’s go water the potatoes."

Zhu Xiu took her hand and asked in a low voice, "Was that satisfying? If not, I can keep going."

Bai Wanwan smiled and nodded. "Very satisfying. A couple more times and he’d probably be dead."

Only then did Zhu Xiu drop the matter. They passed through the noisy tribal plaza, went past a row of houses, and finally arrived at the clearing by the forest.

The potatoes had only been planted a few days, but faint sprouts already seemed to be pushing up from the soil.

The weather was still unbearably hot. The soil they had watered just yesterday already looked dry on the surface.

Several large stone vats had been placed intentionally at the foot of a low wall nearby.

The Clan Leader had ordered them to be filled with water each day, so all Bai Wanwan had to do was water the field as needed.

Of course, this work also fell to her Beast Husbands.

Zhu Xiu worked quickly. In about ten minutes, every single sprout had been nourished with a drink of water.

Her pregnancy made her movements stiff as she squatted down to inspect the sprouting potatoes.

She had only inspected three or four plants before Zhu Xiu swept her up into his arms and set her down on a stone bench under the eaves.

"If you need something done, just tell me. I’ll do it."

Bai Wanwan looked up to wipe the sweat from his face. "It’s fine. These plants are easy to care for. I was just taking a quick look..."

From a distance, Jin Yi took in the entire scene, and a feeling he could only name as jealousy swelled in his heart...
