Delicate Villainess, Desperate Males – A Beast World Reverse Harem
Chapter 283: Anxious Expression
Chapter 283: Chapter 283: Anxious Expression
Jin Xi’s murder was forcefully suppressed by the Jin Cang Clan Leader. It was unclear how he explained it to the tribesmen.
In any case, no Beastman came to deliberately bother Bai Wanwan and her family anymore.
As the days went by, Bai Wanwan’s pregnancy started to show, and she found herself growing more and more lethargic.
But every evening, when the weather cooled down, she still made a habit of going out for a walk.
Before all these incidents, Shi Hua would accompany her, and her three males could rest easy just by watching from afar.
But ever since the series of events, whenever she wanted to go for a walk, either Zhu Xiu or Xin Feng would be right by her side.
As Bai Wanwan walked, she suddenly clutched her stomach and stopped.
"What’s wrong?"
Xin Feng thought she was unwell and immediately reached out to support her.
Bai Wanwan, however, clutched her belly, feeling it carefully before smiling at him and saying, "Don’t worry. I just felt the cub move."
Hearing this, the tension in Xin Feng’s eyes eased. He placed his palm on her slightly swollen belly and felt it carefully.
A spot beneath his palm bulged out.
A maternal softness appeared on Bai Wanwan’s face. "Did the little one kick you too?"
Xin Feng’s eyes were gentle, and a smile played on his lips. "Mhm, just like his Father Beast, he’s a healthy and lively cub."
Bai Wanwan placed her hand over the back of his. "I heard that once the cubs turn one, they have to go into the mountains to hunt alone?"
"Mhm, a one-year-old is a big cub. We’ll be nearby watching over them, so nothing will happen."
After speaking, he reversed his grip to hold her hand and told her in a low voice, "It’s fine to spoil the female cubs a little, but the male cubs have to conquer the dangers of the forest to become the most powerful males in the future."
Bai Wanwan sighed. "I know, but at just one year old... to have to face life and death..."
She had been in this dog-eat-dog world for a year now. She knew the males here faced a brutal reality of survival of the fittest.
’But in my heart, one-year-old cubs are still just babies, and they have to face such brutal scenes.’
"The sooner the cubs learn, the sooner they become independent. It will only do them good, no harm."
They walked a lap around the Central Square, supporting each other as they headed back home...
"Captain, the mission in the Golden Lion Tribe is complete. We need to leave for the next tribe immediately."
A male walked up to Roger to report the situation.
But after he finished speaking, he noticed that Roger wasn’t reacting, his eyes fixed in a certain direction.
He subconsciously looked over. Beastmen were coming and going in the square, and he wasn’t sure what his captain was looking at.
Roger’s gaze followed Bai Wanwan and her Beast Husband as they entered their house, finally disappearing into the narrow doorway.
Suppressing the predatory urge in his eyes, he turned his head.
"It only took you two days to finish?"
"Yes, Captain. We’re running out of time. We have to get back before the snow season."
Roger reluctantly tore his gaze away. "Alright. We leave tomorrow morning."
’Bai Wanwan is still alive, right here in the Golden Lion Tribe.’
’Once I finish the mission at hand, I will come back for her.’
*******
When Bai Wanwan returned home, Yan Lie was looking after the cubs, while Zhu Xiu was still out hunting.
With so many mouths to feed, the amount of food needed for the entire snow season was immense.
Originally, it would take two Beast Husbands hunting just to gather barely enough food.
But after what had happened, Zhu Xiu insisted on leaving Yan Lie and Xin Feng behind to protect her.
Yan Lie and Xin Feng were also too worried to leave Bai Wanwan, so the three males reached an agreement.
Bai Wanwan, also afraid there wouldn’t be enough food, had planted a batch of potatoes early on.
The weather was too hot, so she had to water them every day.
Xin Feng knew her routine and had already prepared a stone basin filled with water.
Bai Wanwan was about to water them when she saw that the stems and leaves, which had been wilting yesterday, were now completely dead.
’No way...’
A panicked look crossed Bai Wanwan’s face, and she immediately quickened her pace to go and check.
Xin Feng grabbed her arm. "Slow down. Be careful you don’t fall."
Bai Wanwan looked back at him. "I’m worried! Look, all the stems and leaves are dead."
"Don’t worry. You just stand there. Tell me what to do."
Blocked by him, Bai Wanwan couldn’t squat down, so she had no choice but to ask him to dig up some of the soil to take a look.
Xin Feng immediately did as she asked. The layer of soil was pushed aside, revealing a few tubers the size of a fingertip.
’I planted them over a month ago. They shouldn’t be this small.’
’Is the soil at the Black Dog Tribe’s territory more fertile?’
"Wait..."
She noticed something was wrong with those tubers.
"Dig them out and let me see."
Xin Feng immediately complied, digging out a few potato tubers and laying them in his palm.
The largest was only the size of a thumbnail, while the smallest was no bigger than a pea.
Moreover, not a single one was round and smooth.
Such tiny things were twisted into all sorts of strange shapes; they were incredibly deformed.
’Something’s wrong... Even though I’ve never grown potatoes myself, I know this shape isn’t right.’
"Xin Feng, dig some more. Dig up that clump over there too."
Xin Feng did so at once, quickly digging up twenty-some more newly grown tubers.
But without exception, nearly all of them were deformed.
Not only were they not growing, they were also deformed.
She had been thinking that if their hunt didn’t yield enough food, she could use the potatoes as a staple. At least her and Shi Hua’s rations would be taken care of.
Who knew they would all be deformed and refuse to grow.
The sky was getting dark. Yan Lie returned with the cubs in his arms and saw that all the soil in the yard had been turned over.
"Wanwan, isn’t this what you planted earlier? Why did you dig it all up?"
While asking, he had already stepped forward to work alongside Xin Feng.
"These probably can’t be used. Just dig them all up for now."
The two of them worked quickly. The small yard was completely turned over, and almost none of the dug-up potatoes were normal.
’Where did it go wrong?’
Bai Wanwan tried to recall the circumstances under which she had successfully grown potatoes before.
’Can they only be planted in the spring?’
’Or is it because of the weather and humidity?’
The weather was starting to cool. ’I’ll wait until it’s cooler and try planting another batch.’
If she couldn’t grow them, she would probably go hungry this winter unless she used her Points.
Xin Feng and Yan Lie shoveled out all the deformed potatoes, tossing them outside basket by basket.
Bai Wanwan watched them finish and was about to sit on a stool to rest for a bit.
Suddenly, she heard the sound of crying from the square outside.
It seemed to be more than just one person.
"Yan Lie, what’s happening outside?"
Yan Lie was on his way out to dump the potatoes and had just reached the door.
"Some males are injured. It’s probably their females and cubs crying."
Bai Wanwan, who had been about to sit down, froze. "Are there many injured males?"
"There are several."
Hearing this, Bai Wanwan immediately started walking outside.
Yan Lie immediately dropped the basket in his hands and moved to protectively escort her out.
"Don’t get too close. We can just stand here and watch."
"Okay."
Bai Wanwan soon saw several injured males lying scattered across the square.
Some had their arms bitten off; others had their thighs bitten through.
For Beastman males, these were extremely serious injuries.
Seeing these injured males, something occurred to Bai Wanwan. With a worried expression, she asked Xin Feng, who had walked over, "Hasn’t Zhu Xiu returned yet?"
