Delicate Villainess, Desperate Males – A Beast World Reverse Harem
Chapter 27: Venting Anger
Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Venting Anger
Xin Feng’s timely rebuke caught Hu Ya off guard, causing her last word to come out garbled and off-key.
Roger, sitting nearby and enjoying the drama, vaguely caught a certain word.
But unfortunately, he couldn’t quite make it out.
He glanced at Hu Ya, then over at Bai Wanwan, who was sitting diagonally opposite him...
Hu Ya then directed her anger at Xin Feng. "Xin Feng, you’re just the same! You all despise me because of Bai Wanwan..."
Xin Feng’s brows furrowed into a knot.
Wu Mu grabbed Hu Ya and began to drag her out.
"Wu Mu, let me go! If you become Bai Wanwan’s Beast Husband, I’ll never forgive you."
"Yaya, let’s take this outside."
Bai Wanwan continued to eat her roasted meat, having no interest in watching the rest of this farce.
Seeing Xin Feng’s unhappy expression, she picked up a piece of meat, held it to his lips, and said, "Open up."
Xin Feng looked up at her, and his expression softened slightly. He obediently opened his mouth and ate the piece of meat she held to his lips.
Roger watched their interaction, and the corner of his mouth twitched into a cold smirk. He then put down his chopsticks, crossed his arms over his chest, and stared at the two of them.
"Xin Feng, tell me. You were in such a hurry to cut that little female off just now. Was there something you didn’t want me to hear?"
"You’re just an outsider. The affairs of the clan have nothing to do with you. If they want to argue, they can do it outside. Don’t disturb Wanwan while she’s eating."
Xin Feng’s tone was calm, and his expression betrayed nothing.
Roger’s gaze swept over his face, but he couldn’t find anything amiss.
But he still felt something was off.
His gaze shifted back to Bai Wanwan, but she had no reaction either, still engrossed in eating her meat.
"I’m full."
With that, he rose and started to walk out.
But he hadn’t taken more than two steps before Bai Wanwan called out to him. "Remember to send the meat over."
Roger let out an exasperated laugh. ’Can this little female see no other value in me beyond a few pieces of meat?’
"Fine, I’ll send it!"
This time, he strode out of the cave without a backward glance.
Outside, Hu Ya was tugging on Wu Mu, refusing to let go.
"You promised to be my Beast Husband. Come with me to the Witch Cave and become my mate right now."
"Yaya, I can’t become your mate. It was the Clan Leader’s decision."
"I don’t believe you! You just want to be her Beast Husband because you see that Bai Wanwan is more fertile than me! Back when she was a useless female, why didn’t you want to be her Beast Husband then?"
With his true intentions laid bare, Wu Mu’s expression soured.
He forcefully wrenched his hand from Hu Ya’s grasp.
"Yaya, I’ve made myself clear. If you try to stop this, you’ll only make the Clan Leader angry."
"Let him be angry, then! I’m angry, too! Bai Wanwan is my nemesis."
When Roger came out, he saw Hu Ya blocking the male called Wu Mu.
They were a bit too far away for him to hear what they were saying.
After they struggled for a while, the male wrenched himself free, turned, and strode away.
Hu Ya stood frozen in place, then threw a tantrum, screaming at Wu Mu’s retreating back, "Wu Mu, you deceived me! I won’t forgive you!"
With his arms crossed over his chest, Roger slowly sauntered closer.
Hu Ya turned around and saw Roger had walked up behind her.
She quickly composed herself, not wanting another male to see her in such a pathetic state.
"Captain Roger, when did you get here?"
She felt a pang of nervousness. ’I think I mentioned Bai Wanwan’s fertility... I hope he didn’t hear me.’
She definitely didn’t want him to know that Bai Wanwan was a Holy Female.
Within the tribe, Bai Wanwan was already hogging all the attention.
She knew that no male could resist the allure of a Holy Female.
If this Traveling Merchant Captain also found out, he might become Bai Wanwan’s Beast Husband. Then Bai Wanwan would want for nothing, and she would lord it over Hu Ya even more.
"I’ve been here for a little while. Just in time to catch a good show," Roger said with a half-smile.
Hu Ya’s eyes widened, and she grew nervous, worried he had overheard.
Roger closed the distance between them, one step at a time. "A cute, beautiful little female like you should have many powerful Beastmen admiring you, willing to protect you. That male, Wu Mu... I’m afraid a wild beast must have scratched his eyes out, making him blind to your worth."
His words made her panic vanish, replaced by a bashful expression. "Do you really think so?"
"Of course. He said he wanted to become your mate, so why would your Cat Clan’s Clan Leader have them become Bai Wanwan’s Beast Husbands?"
The angrier Hu Ya got as she listened. "It’s all because Bai Wanwan is so good at giv—"
She stopped herself mid-word and immediately clamped a hand over her mouth.
"Good at what?" Roger pressed.
Startled, Hu Ya scrambled to backpedal. "Because I already have several Beast Husbands, and Bai Wanwan only has Xin Feng. Xin Feng is injured, too. The Clan Leader is worried she won’t have enough males to protect her and won’t survive the snow season."
Roger narrowed his eyes, seeing right through her lie.
"But I heard that Bai Wanwan is a useless female. Are females in your Cat Clan Tribe so scarce that even a useless one needs powerful males for protection?"
Hu Ya’s mind spun, unable to figure out how to talk her way out of this.
"Th-that was the Clan Leader’s decision. I don’t know either."
With that, she tried to leave.
Roger sidestepped, blocking her path. "Do you really not know, or do you just not want me to know?"
The panic in Hu Ya’s eyes grew. "It’s not that I don’t want you to know."
Roger’s lips twitched. "If it’s not that you don’t want me to know, then tell me everything you know."
How could Hu Ya dare tell him? If the Clan Leader found out, he’d definitely send her to the Female Cave.
She quickly shoved Roger aside and bolted.
Roger had only been testing her; he hadn’t expected to get the answer right away.
But Hu Ya’s reaction indirectly confirmed it for him: the Cat Clan Tribe was hiding something, and it was a secret concerning Bai Wanwan.
Only after Hu Ya’s panicked, fleeing figure disappeared from view did he turn and leave.
When Hu Ya returned to her cave, several of her Beast Husbands, who were butchering prey, looked up at her in unison.
When Hu Ya saw Xin Shan and Xin Yu, waves of anger surged through her.
The two of them had also wanted to be Bai Wanwan’s Beast Husbands. If Bai Wanwan hadn’t refused, they would have been with her long ago.
The angrier she got, the more she thought about it, and she finally snapped, ordering them, "You two, go up the mountain right now. I want to eat Snow Leopard meat."
Snow Leopards were ferocious beasts. In a small tribe like the Cat Clan, there was virtually no male who could hunt one alone.
Even for the two brothers, Xin Shan and Xin Yu, to team up against one was extremely dangerous.
For the past two days, Hu Ya had doted on Xin Shan and Xin Yu exclusively, causing her other Beast Husbands to become resentful.
Now, seeing Hu Ya order the two to hunt a Snow Leopard, they were all delighted. Not one of them stood up to say a word on the brothers’ behalf.
Xin Shan glanced at the sky outside. "Yaya, it’s almost dark. Xin Yu and I will go up the mountain first thing in the morning to hunt a Snow Leopard for you."
"No. I want you to go now. If you can’t hunt a Snow Leopard, don’t bother coming back."
Xin Yu grew anxious. "Yaya, how are the two of us supposed to hunt a Snow Leopard alone?"
"Figure it out yourselves. Don’t come back until you’ve hunted a Snow Leopard."
Xin Yu started to say more, but Xin Shan held him back.
He could tell that Hu Ya had been provoked outside and was now taking her anger out on them.
"Fine. We’ll go now."
