Chapter 259: Chapter 259: Bai Wanwan, You Were Hard to Find

"Don’t move..."

Bai Wanwan was definitely teasing him on purpose.

In this atmosphere, with thousands of eyes on them, he was so stern and serious. His eyes held a distant, aloof look.

She just wanted to tear off that "keep your distance" mask of his and see his eyes light up with an emotion meant only for her.

"Fine, I’ll stop moving. Now, are you going to answer me?"

But even as she said it, her little claws scratched him again.

She distinctly felt the beastman’s breath hitch.

The smile at the corners of her mouth deepened. "What’s wrong? Cat got your tongue?"

His bloodshot eyes shifted, and his gaze fell upon her fair, beautiful face. A dangerous light flickered in their depths.

"If you want to keep watching, sit still. If not, I can take you back right now. Your choice."

Bai Wanwan giggled, immediately sitting up ramrod straight and trying to pull her hand back.

But to her surprise, the very beastman who had just told her not to touch him pried her fingers open.

His fingers slid between hers, and he laced their hands together.

Yet he kept his eyes fixed straight ahead.

"Hey, let go."

Zhu Xiu didn’t let go. Staring straight ahead, he answered her earlier question. "Those beastmen will fight the Bear Beast in a moment."

"So, who do you think will win?"

"The two at the very front."

Hearing that, she turned to look.

Of the two beastmen Zhu Xiu had pointed out, one was incredibly tall, while the other was surprisingly short.

Beastman males were typically tall and imposing. This was the first time Bai Wanwan had ever seen one so short.

"You think *he’ll* win? Why?"

"His eyes are filled with bloodlust. It’s the kind you only get from constantly fighting Fierce Beasts in the wild."

Bai Wanwan watched him for a moment and decided Zhu Xiu had a point.

Then she turned her head to ask Xin Feng...

Yan Lie overheard and immediately leaned in. "Wanwan, I bet those two will win."

As they were all chatting happily, a sudden, loud noise erupted.

DOOM, DOOM, DOOM...

The reverberating sounds brought the reveling beastmen to a standstill.

Bai Wanwan turned her head and saw a beastman striking a large beast-hide drum with a mallet.

In the plaza, which had fallen silent for a moment, countless beastmen threw their heads back. Accompanied by the beat of the drum, they let out a series of howls.

It was a truly spectacular sight. In all her time in the Beast World, Bai Wanwan had never seen such a large-scale event.

She watched, utterly captivated, forgetting all about the fruits in front of her.

When the drumming stopped, the Jin Cang Clan Leader rose from his beast-hide chair. "May the Beast God bless the Golden Lion Tribe for all generations, allowing us to thrive here, forever and ever..."

"And now, let the Warriors of our Golden Lion Tribe win their glory!"

ROAR!

ROAR!

After the earth-shattering roars, a beastman was the first to duck into the wooden cage.

Forgetting all about chatting with her Beast Husbands, Bai Wanwan propped her chin on one hand, her eyes glued to the cage.

The first to enter was, surprisingly, the short beastman.

As soon as he was inside, the Clan Witch stepped forward and woke the slumbering Bear Beast.

The beast grunted, expelling a large cloud of air from its nostrils as it staggered to its feet.

It hadn’t eaten in days. A beast in this state was extremely dangerous, its attacks several times more powerful than usual.

Bai Wanwan found this form of entertainment a bit too intense and gory for her taste.

"Is he really going to be okay?"

She enjoyed a good spectacle, but not if it was this bloody.

"Don’t worry, he’ll be fine."

As they spoke, the short beastman had already lunged toward the Bear Beast, which was more than twice his size.

The Bear Beast raised its claws in turn, roaring as it swiped at him.

As the bear’s paw was about to crash down on the beastman, Bai Wanwan’s breath caught in her throat.

If that blow landed, the beastman would be done for.

Just in the nick of time, the beastman ducked with incredible agility. He successfully dodged the Bear Beast’s claws and, without stopping, circled around to get on its back.

At this incredibly thrilling moment, of all things, Bai Wanwan suddenly had to relieve herself.

The tension of the fight must have been getting to her.

She tried to hold it, but the more tense she became, the harder it was to ignore.

She finally stood up. "I need to go relieve myself."

Hearing this, Xin Feng immediately started to get up.

Yan Lie, who had been waiting for an opportunity, shot up and took Bai Wanwan’s hand. "Wanwan, I’ll go with you."

"Okay, Yan Lie can come with me. I’ll be right back."

Only then did Xin Feng sit back down.

Bai Wanwan, who had just been in a hurry, started off walking quickly.

But once they were away from the crowd, the urgency seemed to fade.

After a moment’s hesitation, she decided she should go anyway, lest she have to get up again later.

"Wanwan, I’ll carry you. We’ll be quicker that way."

With that, he took two steps forward and crouched down in front of her.

Bai Wanwan smiled and hopped onto his back, wrapping her arms around his neck.

She was about to say something to Yan Lie when she felt a pair of eyes on her.

She instinctively turned to look. Most of the crowd was focused on the fight between the beastman and the Bear Beast in the wooden cage, though some other beastmen would occasionally glance her way.

Bai Wanwan tilted her head, hesitating. That last gaze had felt far too intense.

’Maybe... it’s just my imagination?’

She leaned close to Yan Lie’s ear and said, "Let’s go!"

Yan Lie walked quickly. He knew his mate’s habits.

She wouldn’t want to relieve herself anywhere near a crowd.

The Golden Lion Tribe was a large tribe with many beastmen. To avoid any overpowering odors, most of them relieved themselves outside the main tribal area.

However, there were a few groves of trees within the tribe designated for this purpose.

The soil in these woods was, therefore, frequently turned over.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Bai Wanwan was no longer as repulsed by the custom as she had been at first. Now, she could calmly endure the strange smells and take care of business.

"Wanwan, it’s really dark in there. Why don’t I go with you?" Yan Lie glanced worriedly into the pitch-black woods.

Bai Wanwan quickly waved her hands. ’Better to keep some distance for such... indelicate private matters,’ she thought. ’Otherwise, the romantic image he has of me will shatter pretty quickly.’

"No, no, it’s fine! I won’t go far. I’ll be right out."

Yan Lie hesitated for a moment. "Alright. Call me if you need anything. And if I call for you, you have to answer back."

"Okay."

Bai Wanwan immediately turned and headed into the woods. She wanted to hurry back to see if the beastman would defeat the Bear Beast.

The moon wasn’t very bright tonight, and it was dark in the woods.

She didn’t dare go too far in.

She was slowly feeling her way forward when, before she could even stop, she heard Yan Lie’s voice call out, "Wanwan?"

"Yeah, I’m here!"

After replying, she decided she was far enough away and didn’t plan to go any deeper.

She reached out to loosen her sash and was about to squat down when a hand suddenly shot out from the side and grabbed her by the waist.

Just as Bai Wanwan was about to scream, another hand clamped over her mouth.

"Mmph!"

Her cries were completely muffled by his palm.

’Who is it?’

Bai Wanwan’s eyes widened in terror. ’Could it be one of Zhuo Ling’s Beast Husbands?’

Just as she was about to bite down with all her might, a somewhat familiar voice sounded by her ear.

"Bai Wanwan, I’ve had to look so hard for you!"
