Chapter 253: Chapter 253: Do You Like Jin Yi?

"If it’s not about Shi Hua, then what’s with that look on your face?"

She carefully observed Yan Lie’s expression.

’Is he angry?... Doesn’t seem like it. But he doesn’t look happy, either.’

’Something is definitely weighing on his mind.’

Yan Lie’s lips twitched. "Wanwan... do you like Jin Yi?"

Yan Lie thought about how he had entrusted Wanwan to Jin Yi, and how he himself had fallen into a canyon and been missing for so many days.

’They... were alone together, and Wanwan is such a charming and lovely young female.’

’There’s no way Jin Yi wouldn’t be smitten!’

"Like... Jin Yi?"

Bai Wanwan had never even considered the question. Her heart had limited space, and it was already filled by her Beast Husbands.

But during the beast tide, he had unfailingly protected her. That was a kindness she would remember for the rest of her life.

"What are you talking about? I don’t like him, and he doesn’t like me."

"Really?" Yan Lie immediately brightened up.

Although he had also joined the family later, he was extremely grateful that Wanwan had accepted him.

But as a male, his instincts made it impossible for him to welcome another powerful, outstanding male into the fold.

"Really. Shi Hua and I are going to take the little one for a walk nearby. Later, go get your older brother and invite him over for dinner. I’ll cook to welcome him."

Yan Chi had come a long way to find Yan Lie. As Yan Lie’s partner, she had to show some hospitality.

"Okay. I’ll go find my brother after Zhu Xiu and Xin Feng get back to look after you."

"Okay, I’m heading out then."

After Bai Wanwan left, Yan Lie didn’t dare let her out of his sight.

He sat by the entrance processing beast hides, his gaze landing on Bai Wanwan from time to time.

Bai Wanwan didn’t plan to go far. In a little while, the sun would become scorching.

Only the early morning was this cool.

She originally thought there wouldn’t be many Beastmen in the tribe at this hour.

But to her surprise, a crowd of females was already sitting in a circle.

Several of them were targets Bai Wanwan had "treated" with dung water.

When they saw Bai Wanwan, they hastily looked away, turning their backs to her.

They despised Bai Wanwan, but though they were furious, they dared not speak out.

The best solution was to not provoke her.

But Bai Wanwan recalled the last time she was schemed against by the Golden Lions and other males, nearly dying in the beast tide. Her eyes narrowed, and she walked forward.

"Well, isn’t this lively! What are you all talking about?"

At Bai Wanwan’s overly familiar approach, the corners of several females’ mouths twitched—the very ones who had tasted the dung water.

They wanted to ignore her, to give her the cold shoulder.

But Bai Wanwan acted as if she didn’t notice, asking with a grin, "Whose Beast Husband here has a Yellow Rank Talent?"

At first, none of the females paid her any mind.

Bai Wanwan clicked her tongue. "Tsk. You were all so arrogant when you went against me. I thought your Beast Husbands must be so impressive! Turns out not a single one of them is even Yellow Rank?"

After she said that, three females couldn’t sit still. "Who says there aren’t? One of my Beast Husbands has a Yellow Rank Talent."

"Right, my Beast Husband too..."

A glint flashed in Bai Wanwan’s eyes. She smiled and nodded. "Oh, that impressive? Then how many Beast Husbands do you have, and what clans are they from?"

Those females hadn’t wanted to talk to her, but for some reason, once she asked, the words just started pouring out of their mouths.

"Besides a Golden Lion, my Beast Husbands also include a male from the Tiger Clan."

"My Beast Husbands are from the Ape Clan and Peacock Clan..."

The female who spoke looked smug. Bai Wanwan’s gaze swept over her face.

Sensing the stare, the female shrank back. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

’I haven’t offended Bai Wanwan, have I? She’s not going to use that itching powder on me again, is she?’

Just thinking about it... that maddening itch spread through her, as if she had really been hit with the itching powder.

’Not her...’

Bai Wanwan made an instant judgment and looked to the next female. "What about you? What clans are your Beast Husbands from?"

There were more than ten females present. Even though none of them liked Bai Wanwan, they couldn’t resist her questioning and ended up revealing everything about their households.

Just then, Zhuo Ling walked over and happened to hear Bai Wanwan’s questions. Her heart jumped, and she immediately hurried over to interrupt them.

"Wanwan, you’ve finally decided to come out! Why have you been cooped up at home all this time?"

Bai Wanwan turned, her gaze landing on Zhuo Ling’s face. She let out a soft laugh. "I have those males who tried to harm me to thank for that. I was lucky to survive the beast tide, but I was seriously injured. Once I find out who sent those males, I’ll make her understand that death isn’t the worst thing that can happen..."

As Zhuo Ling’s heart sank, an out-of-place voice piped up from the side, "Then what is the worst thing...?"

The female looked at Bai Wanwan with eyes full of clueless innocence.

Bai Wanwan laughed out loud. "Soon... you’ll find out."

Zhuo Ling’s mouth twitched twice before she forced a smile. "You really suffered this time. We females should try to stay in the tribe as much as possible. With the males to protect us, we won’t run into such dangers."

The surrounding females all nodded in agreement. They rarely took a single step outside the tribe, spending their entire lives within it.

Seeing the topic change, Zhuo Ling breathed a small sigh of relief.

But before she could fully exhale, Bai Wanwan spoke again. "By the way, Zhuo Ling, what clans are your Beast Husbands from?"

She forcefully dragged the conversation back, her gaze fixed on Zhuo Ling.

"Wanwan... my Beast Husbands are nothing special. How could they possibly compare to yours?"

Zhuo Ling had already guessed that Bai Wanwan was using these questions to investigate who sent the males after her that day.

She tried to flatter Bai Wanwan to get her to stop asking.

"That’s true. Your Beast Husbands are pretty average."

Bai Wanwan’s words made Zhuo Ling choke on her anger, leaving her breathless and furious.

’Just what kind of ability does this Bai Wanwan have? How could she be so lucky...’

’Someone as outstanding as me couldn’t even find one Beast Husband as excellent as Zhu Xiu, Xin Feng, or Yan Lie.’

’Yet Bai Wanwan managed to get all three of them.’

Seeing Zhuo Ling trying to suppress her obvious anger, Bai Wanwan gave a meaningful smile.

"You still haven’t answered the question I just asked you."

She answered vaguely, "They’re mostly from the Black Dog Clan. It’s not like you don’t know that, Wanwan."

Zhuo Ling averted her gaze, hiding her emotions.

Bai Wanwan had no interest in Zhuo Ling’s Beast Husbands, so she had no idea how many she had or what clans they were from.

But after questioning everyone, the other females seemed unlikely suspects. Zhuo Ling, on the other hand, was the most suspicious.

"I’m not trying to steal your Beast Husbands, so how would I know? Come on, tell me. Do your Beast Husbands include anyone from the Ape Clan? Or the Golden Lions? Or..."

Bai Wanwan listed them one by one, not missing a single flicker of expression on Zhuo Ling’s face.

Just then, Zhuo Ling suddenly looked behind Bai Wanwan and cried out in delighted surprise, "Jin Yi..."
